What if...?

Questions that came into my head recently.
1Wire
Chairs Missing

What if Colin Newman died instead of Ian Curtis?

Joy Division is one of the most well known post punk bands, and Curtis's death contributed to that. Wire is one of the highest regarded post punk acts, but their newest music is not liked nearly as much. If Colin Newman committed suicide after 154 came out, would they be as successful as Joy Division is now? Would Joy Division lose relevance the way Wire did? Now, obviously with Curtis's lyrics, you could tell that suicide was approaching because of his depression, and with Newman, no sign was present, but it's still interesting to think about.
2Nine Inch Nails
The Downward Spiral

What if Burn replaced Big Man With a Gun?

I recently heard Trent say something about how he regrets putting Big Man with a Gun on the album, because he finds the track to be extremely mediocre. While fans of the album have put together a story line for the album where Big Man with a Gun plays a key role, Burn is a track that would fit in there as well. If Burn was included and Big Man with a Gun was not, would the album still be as loved as it is today? Would it be more loved?
3Green Day
American Idiot

What if Cigarettes and Valentines was released and this wasn't?

Cigarettes and Valentines was "stolen" from the studio and American Idiot was written and released instead. If Cigarettes and Valentines was released, would it make Green Day completely lose relevance? Would it somehow perform more successfully than American Idiot did?
4Weezer
Pinkerton

What if Pinkerton was met with good reviews at first?

Ever since Pinkerton, Weezer's music became very radio friendly, poppish, and accessible. That was because of this album. Since this did poorly at first release, Weezer was scared to write music like this again, and reformed their sound. If they didn't do that, would they have made an album even better than Pinkerton, or perhaps an album even better than Blue?
5John Lennon
Double Fantasy

What if John wasn't killed?

I heard he was planning to form a band similar to Wings after Double Fantasy was released. I wonder if over time the Beatles would've reunited? Paul and John were starting to mend their friendship at that point. Or what if McCartney died instead of Lennon? What would that have done to the world?
