| What if...?
Questions that came into my head recently. | 1 | | Wire Chairs Missing
What if Colin Newman died instead of Ian Curtis?
Joy Division is one of the most well known post punk bands, and Curtis's death contributed to that. Wire is one of the highest regarded post punk acts, but their newest music is not liked nearly as much. If Colin Newman committed suicide after 154 came out, would they be as successful as Joy Division is now? Would Joy Division lose relevance the way Wire did? Now, obviously with Curtis's lyrics, you could tell that suicide was approaching because of his depression, and with Newman, no sign was present, but it's still interesting to think about. | 2 | | Nine Inch Nails The Downward Spiral
What if Burn replaced Big Man With a Gun?
I recently heard Trent say something about how he regrets putting Big Man with a Gun on the album, because he finds the track to be extremely mediocre. While fans of the album have put together a story line for the album where Big Man with a Gun plays a key role, Burn is a track that would fit in there as well. If Burn was included and Big Man with a Gun was not, would the album still be as loved as it is today? Would it be more loved? | 3 | | Green Day American Idiot
What if Cigarettes and Valentines was released and this wasn't?
Cigarettes and Valentines was "stolen" from the studio and American Idiot was written and released instead. If Cigarettes and Valentines was released, would it make Green Day completely lose relevance? Would it somehow perform more successfully than American Idiot did? | 4 | | Weezer Pinkerton
What if Pinkerton was met with good reviews at first?
Ever since Pinkerton, Weezer's music became very radio friendly, poppish, and accessible. That was because of this album. Since this did poorly at first release, Weezer was scared to write music like this again, and reformed their sound. If they didn't do that, would they have made an album even better than Pinkerton, or perhaps an album even better than Blue? | 5 | | John Lennon Double Fantasy
What if John wasn't killed?
I heard he was planning to form a band similar to Wings after Double Fantasy was released. I wonder if over time the Beatles would've reunited? Paul and John were starting to mend their friendship at that point. Or what if McCartney died instead of Lennon? What would that have done to the world? | |

10.22.15 | Has anything been released on what that Green Day album was going to sound like? | bagof4grapes
10.22.15 | "What if Burn replaced Big Man With a Gun?"
I just listened to the album with Burn replacing Big Man with a Gun because of you. Honestly, out of any song that could replace it, Burn is the track that would fill it's shoes best. Burn is a better song, big man with a gun belongs on the album though. Or maybe that's just because I'm used to it belonging there | Nikkolae
10.22.15 | i think that if American Idiot never happened green day would've broken up long ago, american idiot the song stroke the right cord at the right time. | JimmyofSuburbia99
10.22.15 | There are tons of C&V outtakes that were released later on, like Too Much Too Soon, Lights Out (both were b sides), Walk Away (which was on Tre) and Cigarettes and Valentines (on Awesome as fuck) | BeyondCosby
10.22.15 | I'll have to check them out. Anything after American Idiot is hard to listen to. | brainmelter
10.22.15 | so many questions, no answers | TheSonomaDude
10.22.15 | And so there they stood, on the mountains prevailing their wisdom
what if you did, what if you lied? [2] | SharkTooth
10.22.15 | if only I could give an answer but the thing is I haven't heard 2 of these and don't care for those I have heard | DoofusWainwright
10.22.15 | For 2, pretty much any song would have been a better fit than Big Man. I think Trent wanted to have as many provocative tracks on the album as he could...and it was a bit of a mistake, this was one too many and a bit obvious.
It made my list for 'Great Band, Terrible Song' so yup, pretty much have the same opinion as the man himself | TheSonomaDude
10.22.15 | 80's Beatles sounds interesting. | Mutantsnowstorm
10.22.15 | While I'm glad Green Day put out american idiot and I'm aware it was a needed release, I really want to hear the whole cigarettes and valentines album. Part of me hopes they'll unofficially release it as a "here's what would've been" type deal in the future. | Sinternet
10.22.15 | What if the rickroll was instead a link to some other 80s pop song? What would be best? | SharkTooth
10.22.15 | Maybe something like She's on Fire
"SHE'S ON FIRE FIRE FIRE FIRE FIIIIIIIIRRRRRRRRRREEEEE" | AlexKzillion
10.22.15 | What if Cliff Burton didnt die and Metallica actually went through with kicking Lars out of the band? | zakalwe
10.22.15 | 1. There's only one Ian Curtis. There's only one Wire.
2. Wouldn't make the slightest difference.
3. They'd still be shit and idolised by people who don't know better.
4. Rivers would've fucked off back to Uni
5. Lennon and McCartney would've buried the hatchet for 5 mins before John realised that Paul has always been a total bellend.

10.23.15 | 1.Don't know enough about either band.
2.That sounds awesome in theory because it's a better song (at least I think so...It's one of my favorites) but Big Man with a gun fits the album FAR better.
3.Don't care.
4.Don't like Pinkerton, Blue album was pretty good, don't like their post-Pinkerton stuff either.
5.Although he's my favorite Beatle, John was a huge hypocrite and his solo work dipped in quality after Mind Games. Paul probably wouldn't have been as controversial of a death because Paul wasn't trying to be some revolutionary figure (I mean fuck, John had such an ego, he must have been an annoying person to know...) The Beatles have such a solid legacy, I feel like an 80s comeback would've likely tarnished it. I mean look at 80s Beach Boys songs like Kokomo... god.

10.23.15 | oh god the 80s had so much awful music tbh | someguest
10.23.15 | What if SharkTooth knew anything...
now that would be nice, wouldn't it? | ArsMoriendi
10.23.15 | I mean the 80s did have awful music, and amazing music, and average music, and basically all qualities of music just like every decade... so he's not wrong. | someguest
10.23.15 | Thank you, Arse End. | ArsMoriendi
