The Best Of 2014 (Please Rec)
My favorites from 2014. Please rec me some stuff like this, or maybe even rsomething totally different that I might like. Doesn't have to be from 2014, rbut that'd be cool. |
25 | | Tiny Moving Parts Pleasant Living
The new catchier side was nice, and that Always Focused riff... |
24 | | La Dispute Rooms Of The House
A little weak in comparison to their previous material, but lyrically this rules. Plus there's
some interesting guitar moments throughout. |
23 | | Basement Further Sky
The Suede cover was a nice touch, and cool production courtesy of Sam Pura. |
22 | | The Black Keys Turn Blue
Watered down and too obviously catered for commercial audiences, but honestly when
put up against what else mainstream "rock" had to offer this year, this is pretty solid in
comparison. |
21 | | Tony Molina Dissed and Dismissed
Quick, catchy, and fun. What else is there to ask for? |
20 | | Weezer Everything Will Be Alright In The End
Their best album since Pinkerton honestly, even though it clearly comes nowhere close
to that. Just happy they stepped away from all the dance influence. |
19 | | Code Orange I Am King
On here cause Kurt Ballou, but a pretty crushing album too. |
18 | | Neil Cicierega Mouth Silence
Absolutely hilarious and much better than Mouth Sounds. Crocodile Chop is all that
needs to be said. |
17 | | Run The Jewels Run The Jewels 2
Some of the best rap from this year, and caters to my Zach De La Rocha needs. |
16 | | Spoon They Want My Soul
Catchy rock without the annoying commercial production. Great grooves and guitar
progressions. |
15 | | BADBADNOTGOOD III
That effing groove tho. |
14 | | Pianos Become The Teeth Keep You
Really liked the ambience and cleaner vocal style. A little monotone after a while, but the
best tracks on here are just, really great and speak for themselves. |
13 | | Joyce Manor Never Hungover Again
Clean, catchy, and more melodic than their previous material. Probably their best record
yet, and even better live. |
12 | | American Football American Football
Hey, the deluxe edition came out this year...so it came out this year...right? |
11 | | Mastodon Once More Round The Sun
Very interesting guitar work, and the drummer's voice is actually pretty good, no matter
how weird he and his fake tooth look singing and playing at the same time. |
10 | | Architects Lost Forever // Lost Together
One of the best metal releases of the year. They finally found a way to mesh the
ambience with the riffs, do it well, and make every track worth listening to. |
9 | | Cymbals Eat Guitars LOSE
Way better than Lenses Alien, that cover art, and some great, not to mention catchy,
hooks. |
8 | | Every Time I Die From Parts Unknown
Kurt Ballou. Andy Williams. Riff riff pummel pummel metaphor bam. |
7 | | Swans To Be Kind
Is there anybody who doesn't worship this? |
6 | | Sun Kil Moon Benji
TMI, but in the best way. |
5 | | Iceage Plowing Into The Field Of Love
Great twist on their style, and unrelenting all the way through. |
4 | | Jack White Lazaretto
Ran over Blunderbuss, then backed up over Blunderbuss's dead body, then ran over
Blunderbuss again. |
3 | | The Hotelier Home, Like Noplace Is There
This album is a freakin' masterpiece, even if they don't know that "no place" is two
words. |
2 | | The War On Drugs Lost In The Dream
Great production, emotion, instrumentation, and songwriting. It's the full package. |
1 | | The Wytches Annabel Dream Reader
Brings back life into modern rock and roll. This record cuts the bullshit, and delivers
some of the best raw energy ever. |
