Best of 2016

Just a personal list of the records I listened to this year, in order of preference. Still have to listen to lots of stuff, so this list may change.
1Meshuggah
The Violent Sleep of Reason

By far the AOTY for me. Even if they didn't change much their formula, it's just amazing for me how these guys keep their heaviness and complexities after all these years. And the fact that this was recorded live in the studio just add even more value to the record.
2David Bowie
Blackstar

More than just a brilliant album. Bowie knew that this was going to be his last effort, and made it sound as theatrical and tragic as possible.
3Devin Townsend Project
Transcendence

This is, probably, the greatest synthesis of the whole DTP sound. It's not his best album, but still a very, very good one that could be one of the best "starting point" for whoever wants to roam the gigantic catalogue of Devin Townsend.
4Gojira
Magma

At the beginning I didn't really like this. There was something off. Way to simple and less heavy for them But after a while, I started to think: "Man, this may be their greatest work". And I keep thinking that.
5Dark Tranquillity
Atoma

Great album by one of my favourite "old school" melodeath bands. Someone should learn from them how to evolve their sound in a positive and progressive way *cough cough* In Flames *cough cough*
6Alcest
Kodama
7Animals As Leaders
The Madness of Many

Kinda disappointed by this. Loved Joy of Motion, but this seemed kinda soulless to me. Still tracks like The Brain Dance save up some great moments.
