03.02.15 | I haven't heard 3, but if it's anything like Sound of Silver/LCD Soundsystem, I definitely recommend late 70s Talking Heads, as well as Some of Brian Eno's "rock" albums, like Here Come the Warm Jets or Before and After Science
From 6, you could check out some of the Beach Boys records leading up to it––Today! and Summer Days––or a few of the later ones like Wild Honey or Smiley Smile. The thing with the Beach Boys is that no matter how genius or ubiquitous some of their early material is, Pet Sounds and Smile are monumental peaks for them, making everything else seem disappointing. Maybe you could check out other baroque psych from that time if you haven't yet. the Zombies' "Odyssey and Oracle" is absolutely essential. Or, looking forward quite a bit, maybe you'd like some 90's Elephant 6 psych-pop: The Minders' Hooray for Tuesday, the Apples in Stereo, of Montreal's early stuff like The Gay Parade...
And judging by your collective interest in 4, 5, and 6, I'd also recommend of Montreal's mid/late period material...Satanic Panic, Sunlandic Twins, Hissing Fauna...an interesting mix of Beach Boys/Zombies psych with later indie rock, glam, electronica, and funk. | granitenotebook
03.04.15 | Thanks for all the detailed input, I really appreciate it. I was planning on trying a more in-depth listen to Remain In Light so if I like that I'll check out the other Talking Heads/Brian Eno you recommended. I'll definitely check out all the other albums you suggested too. |
