This was initially my least favourite of the two albums you recommended. However, after the first few listens of Monolake I haven’t had much of a desire to return to it, where-as this one just keeps on growing. The instrumentation here is genuinely beautiful, the keys in particular feel so nostalgic throughout. The songs where these keys takes centre stage make me feel a certain way jazz rarely does. A special s/o is deserved to the bass too which packs an absolute punch (esp. on the opener). Such a good recommendation, as I definitely would never have checked this out which would’ve been a big shame.

I had an absolutely gorgeous second-listen of this a few nights back, I was really struggling with sleep and so placed this on as a means of zoning out, but I quickly fell into its trance. When the album hits, it’s an incredibly captivating night time listen, it’s conventionally ‘minimal’ but bursts full of brilliant sounds and ideas. I feel the album drags on too much at times, and some songs come-and-go where others feel like a grand experience. However, It’s definitely an album worth checking out, if not just to lose yourself too.

This is a good album for sure. It doesn’t really do too much for me though, I feel like I’ve heard everything on this album done before and done better. On the flip side, I’ve definitely heard this sound done worse (swings & roundabouts). It is an enjoyable listen, I quite enjoy the vocals in particular, but the lyrics don’t interest me enough to make up for the all-too-familiar sound.

What began as 'I can't get into this' quickly became quite a fond dig of mine. I'll preface this by saying that I don't think this does too much; it doesn't progress too far for my liking and it's minimalism requires me to be in a certain kinda mood. In the dead of night, however, it's an eerie electronic adventure worth zoning in too.

Good job kids, so far no duds.

Initially when I first heard this album, it was everything I wanted it to be; from the guitar crunch, to the raspy punk vocals to the album art. It's sort of faded in my estimations since then, as each listen revealed to be a bit less exciting than the last untill it finally settled at being just (lol) a decently great album. It's murky and dark, so everything I love about Post Punk. However, I do think it's a bit underwhelming at times compared to the best in the genre. particularly towards the end. Also, it is pretty much the perfect length for what it is.

This is one of the tightest hip-hop albums I’ve heard in such a long time, in just about every way. Boots Riley’s lyricism meets that perfect blend of conscious writing and humour that most dream to reach, plus he carries an insanely-fucking-fun flow throughout (the closing track, oh shit). The beats are kinda dated, but honestly the late g-funkesque sound works to the albums advantage - it sounds more retro than cheesy. It's incredibly consistent, and relentlessly good from start to finish. This is an album I will be listening to long past the next few years. Even if this ends up being my favourite album on this list, then the list has been a success.

Sorry Dedex, but I really couldn’t enjoy this one – it’s doused in cheese, and the lyrics are straight up obnoxious at times (Just a Sample eek). The production was an early highlight but even that, towards the end, became a bit too stale for my liking. It’s got that live-for-the-day schtick throughout but is as safe as hip hop can get. Not for me.
