potential albums with pheero
sometimes you listen to an album that you know has potential to be a favourite, but it fails to click. these are the sort of albums you listen to 10 times in hope of falling in love with it one day.
I was in the bath and decided to play Ramadan, I've been listening to this for like 3 months in hope of falling in love with it because there's something so captivating about it.
I was near sleep and stressed as fuck & Sutro (Heroin Jazz Mix) came on, I knew there was something different about this listen. I was so captivated. at this stage I'm familiar with the songs so I knew what to expect.
songs that I had never cared much for prior had completely blown me away (Asian Gangsta Kids, Retrace)
to cut the story short - it clicked
been a while since I've made a list this wank, can't wait to delete this in 3 months time
listen to -
ramadan (s/t track)
one less year
fall in love
oh shit i forgot to describe the music
it's like subtle slow indie rock / atmospheric chill shit
I like subtle, slow, indie, rock, atmospheric, and chill shit so I bet I'd dig.
listen to those tracks
Both are very solid tunes, I particularly liked the ending of One Less Year. Will check the whole thing soon and tell you what I think! :-D
Also I have had a few similar experiences with albums that grow like motherfuckers.
A relatively recent example is Muchacho by Phosphorescent. When I first checked it I really liked it but there was only one song that completely blew me away. I rated it a low 4, mostly on the strength of that one song. I kept going back to it every now and then for that song and after about 8 months the album suddenly clicked and now it's a 5 and hence one of my favorites of all time!
Albums like that are the best kind of album tbh.
YES Boney, my man!
You've got a point by saying they're the best kind of album. The Meadowlands, Reconstruction Site, I Can Hear My Hear etcetc so many of these grower albums have gone on to be my favourites. I remember listening to that Phosphorescent album and loving a few songs off of it, might revisit it.
Nice, obviously I highly recommend you revisit it! Song For Zula is the big one on it (the one I was referring to in that last post), but I love songs like Down To Go, Terror In the Canyons and Muchacho's Tune from it just as much!
