02.07.15 | If you're browsing basses, Jazz Squires are really cheap and sound really good. |
PunkMoon
02.07.15 | Yeah, those seem to be frequently recommended on reddit and UG. They've got a fantastic look for sure. |
FunkyFleaBass
02.07.15 | If you're into slap bass, you can get a sterling S.U.B. Bass by Musicman :), which are also cheap and have
an amazing tone :).

02.07.15 | Love that oval pickguard. Is one humbucker pretty standard as far as bass pickups go? |
wwf
02.07.15 | if you have the money then do it brah |
FunkyFleaBass
02.07.15 | For musicman, yes, but for fenders (and other brands), it really varies, because some have 2 humbuckers, 2
single coils, or some just have 1. |
NakedSnake
02.07.15 | It is for that kind of music man design, but it varies between brands and designs. I stated out with a squire jazz and it was great a beginning bass. But the S.U.B. basses FunkFleaBass recommended look cool also. Try some basses out, see how they feel/sound. |

02.07.15 | I live in St. Louis. Are you going from guitar to bass? |

MeatSalad
02.07.15 | I started out with a squire p-bass and it was a piece of shit |
L4titudes
02.07.15 | typically smaller fish are tastier I'd look into getting some tilapia or something.. cheaper as well but if you must go bass i'd go with a small mouth.. still a tasty fish |

02.07.15 | Got a Ibanez gsr200 which is a great beginner bass I picked up a couple months ago and im more than happy with my buy
plus theyre cheap 120-180 range used |
Halfman
02.07.15 | I know nothing about basses really, but the Fender Jaguar bass is pretty sick. http://www.musiciansfriend.com/bass/fender-standard-jaguar-bass-electric-bass-guitar?rNtt=jaguar%20bass&index=8 |
ZombicidalMan
02.07.15 | cannot recommend highly enough buying a *used* bass on kijiji or craigslist or yakaz, etc. Because fewer people play bass, usually the amount of money you can save on used bass gear is freaking incredible. I grabbed a Mexi Fender Jazz Bass from the 90s for $200.
If you're really set on a brand new bass, look at the G&L Tribute Basses. All-American electronics with overseas assemblage. G&L just destroys most Fender products in the same price point |
PunkMoon
02.07.15 | @glassg7: Yeah, I've been playing guitar with varying degrees of seriousness for 11 years.
@ZombicidalMan: Thanks, I'll keep that in mind. |
