Moose's Black Metal Compilation
Knowing that i had a ton of work to do today i decided to have a change, instead of my ususal stack of albums to go through i figured i'd put a playlist together of some of my favourite black metal songs instead. List is stuff i blasted my eardrums with earlier today. |
1 | | Ash Borer Ash Borer
In the Midst Of Life, We Are In Death - One of my favourite releases from last year and my favourite song off of it, the first time i listened to it i was lying in the dark when the doom laden intro started punctuated by a tortured scream. From that moment i was drawn in, 12 minutes later and it's all over. |
2 | | Axis Of Light By The Hands Of The Consuming Fire
I - This turned up a few weeks ago and it's hardly left my stereo since, the opening blast from this song still hits me every time with the sheer power of it's delivery. Sloppy as fuck but utterly terrifying, these guys are actually based only a few miles from where i live and the mood on the demo pretty much sums up the undercurrent of bitterness and resentment towards the way the city and country is going these days. |
3 | | Haxan Haxan
Grand Denunciation - One of mark mccoys many black metal projects, while most retain a dirty punkish sound this comes across like a long lost second wave demo thats been buried by time and dust. |
4 | | Blutvial I Speak Of The Devil
Serpent Procreation - Picked up this album when it came out ages ago and i rarley go back to it in it's entirety but i think i'll always love this song. Slightly chaotic with a vocalist who sounds more than a little unhinged. |
5 | | Various Artists Odour Of Dust And Rot
Glossolalia - Filth In the Light - Favourite Glossolalia song released so far (theres only been 7) love eveything from this project but this song always takes my preference if i have to choose just one. |
6 | | White Medal Blod O T'North Seeur / Lam
Lam - Over the last 6 months i've become completley crazy for white medal, George Proctors own punkish take on black metal is hardly anything new but when it's delivered as well as it is you cant help but love it. |
7 | | Ulver Nattens Madrigal
Hymne IV - Classic album and classic song, that intro riff! nuff said. |
8 | | Axeman Arrive
Metnal - There has always seemed to be a fair amount of arguing about whether Axeman is a black metal project or a crust project as the blatant amebix worship is obvious, but to be honest who really gives a fuck what you call it when the music is this good. |
9 | | Sarcofago I.N.R.I.
Satanic Lust - A classic first wave album and my personal favourite song from it (to be fair they're all awesome), an influence on countless bands from black metal, death metal and thrash. |
10 | | Drudkh Forgotten Legends
False Dawn - This was the first thing i heard by drudkh as i decided to work my way through their back catolouge from the begining, as much as i love the band this is still always my first port of call when picking a drudkh song. |
11 | | Spectre Abyss
When Night Falls - A little known atmospheric black metal band from the north east of england whose sole demo came into my possesion about a year or so ago and i still cannot understand how more people havnt heard of these guys. Great atmospheric black metal sounding like it was recorded on the rain soaked forests of the english countryside. |
12 | | Burzum Hvis Lyset Tar Oss
Det Som Engang Var - Another classic song, plain and simple. |
13 | | Volahn Dimensiones Del Trance Kosmico
Transcendia Del Espacio Y Tiempo - One of my favourite BTC albums with the softly picked acoustic intro lulling you in before volahn tremolo picks and hammers his way through the rest of the song like a man possessed, the rest of the album aint too shabby either. |
14 | | Winterfylleth The Mercian Sphere
Defending The Realm - I know to some fans of the band it would be utter sacralige to even say it but i love the rerecorded version of this song so much more than the original, the chanted/sung ending leaves things finishing on an epic note. Like a band of warriors marching off into the distance victorious after a hard fought battle. M/ |
