06.21.11 | These "science shows" are about hypothetical bullshit. If we're talkin danger we're in the deepest shitwater full of angry crocodiles. We got moving blackholes, hypervelocity stars, gamma ray bursts, sunflares and whatnot. Considering we potentially get hit by those things I don't get how people can truly worry about asteroids. (Imagine a star like our sun hitting the earth with about 16 million mph, now tell me about dangerous) |

06.21.11 | Gamma ray burts were discussed also. Im aware that its all theoretical but it was blowing my mind nonetheless. There were
talking about a planet named Gilese 857 or something. Ive heard of this planet before. Said that the Voyager mission that
launched in the 70's travels 11 miles per second, and that it would take roughly 350,000 years to get to Gilese. Crazy shit. |

06.21.11 | And how are we supposed to live beyond earth when we aren't able to cope with our shit on earth? For successfully living in space we would AT LEAST need unlimited or at least nearly unlimited energy ressources. We need food, oxygen, artificial gravity (living without gravity fucks your body) and better engines. That shit is all nice in theory but practically I tend to believe that before we are able to to travel space properly we will be able to live 200 or 300 years. |

Hence why I quoted them saying, if we would survive as a species, we would need to advance significantly technology wise to make deep space travel a reality.

06.21.11 | We would have to make a scientific jump in the size of a galaxy if we'd want to do that til 2029. And therefore we would at least need global alliances and put aside competetion, which would also interfere with capitalism which is globally dominant.
So we would have to make scientific and civilizing jumps we would usually need centuries for in almost 20 years. |

06.21.11 | "and how our survival as a species depends on us inventing advanced technology to move between the stars."
Well of course it is. It's common knowledge that somewhere down the line the sun will eventually swallow the earth whole and render our galaxy virtually uninhabitable. Granted that's a few billion years away, but still... |

06.21.11 | They mentioned that also, deviant. How the sun is going to grow tremendously in size. Show was super interesting, and def had my jaw on the floor in certain spots. |

06.21.11 | I mean I'd love the idea of some Stargate/Star Trek-like space travel and interacting with other species in the universe as much as any Sci-Fi fan. But from a realistic and practical view it looks pretty dull on that. |
Deviant.
06.21.11 | Nothing would be dull traveling with MacGyver |
Wolfhorde
06.21.11 | Yeah, but that's also because MacGyver is god. MacGyver made humanity out of his beard and some toothpaste when he accidentally cut himself while shaving. |
