Iluv's favorite hip/trip hop albums!

Oh jeeze I'm doing one of these. Most of the albums I'm listing really haven't been listed much anywhere else, so here we go!
1Ice Cube
The Predator

This was the definitive gangsta rap album, and it really still is. Featuring some fantastic production and Ice Cube a hie height (arguably one of the finest MC's ever, and my personal favorite), this album is truly a wonder.
2 Deep Puddle Dynamics
The Taste of Rain...Why Kneel?

The Anticon label is an extremely diverse one quality wise. Some of the stuff thrown out by the label is incredible, and some of it is horrific. However, Deep Puddle Dynamics, a supergroup within the label, released an entirely to trippy album with easily the best lyrical performances I've ever heard. It's perhaps the strangest hip hop album I own, and yet its still one of the best.
3Massive Attack
Mezzanine

Yeah, what a surprise this ends up on my list. Regardless of what you think, thi album is absolutely breathtaking. More lowkey than its sister in trip hop, it's a religious experience of sorts, and with tracks like "Risingson" and "Mothers Milk", its arguably one of the finest albums of the 90's.
4Deltron 3030
Deltron 3030

Both Dan the Automator and Del tha Funky Homosapien's finest moment, Deltron 3030 is a wonderful journey through a strange and far off future, with much of that coming from Del's strange delivery coupled with Dan's signature sampling style that makes it unique yet safe and familiar.
5Eminem
The Marshall Mathers LP

After much debate, I've decided that yes, the Marshalls Mathers LP is Eminem's greatest work. Featuring an incredible amount of emotion, it's undoubtedly the most agressive and honest rapping performance of all time that doesnt come off as high and mighty, and the dark production work from Dre is some of the best he ever produced. Truly a classic, particularly for "Kim" and "The Way I Am."
6DJ Shadow
Endtroducing

The sister of Mezzanine, Endtroducing is most impressive for the sheer impressiveness the creation instills, as this album entirely composed of samples feels completely cohesive and is an enthralling experience.
7 Alias
The Other Side of the Looking Glass

Before Alias become enveloped in attempting to be a trip hop artist, he was an amazing rapper and hip hop producer, and easily the best single member of the Anticon label. Featuring gritty yet inventive production and a myriad of vocal effects, its all tied in by the fact the Alias's flow is second to none, and it a thing of rap beauty to hear.
8Eminem
The Eminem Show

I personally think this album got a bad rap just because it wasnt another Eminem Show. Sure, lyrically this album is somewhat of a faltering, and we began to see signs of the production for Eminem falter, this is perhaps the epitome of his MC skills, and songs like "'Till I Collapse", "White America", and "Sing For the Moment" are perhaps the best he's ever produced.
9 cLOUDDEAD
cLOUDDEAD

cLOUDDEAD is a strange Anticon product; it's essentially Deep Puddle Dynamics with a member or two taken out, and another member or two thrown in. Regardless, it's far more ambient and trip hop influenced than DPD, and far more pretentious in its ambitions as well. However, it's still an incredibly solid album, with the flow and strange continuity between each track being a particular treat.
10 Clipse
Lord Willin'

Perhaps my favorite of the current crop of mainstream rap albums (barring Eminem), Clipse managed quite a bit on this album. As the Neptunes essentially staked their claim as the best producers in hip hop (for a short while) with this album, thats almost enough to make up for a possible MC letdown. However, Clipse are an incredibly talented duo, having entirely unqiue voices and flows that will be welcomed when their oft-delayed second album finally comes out in August.
