05.20.10 | if someone doesn't get me linkage to a Gold Cobra leak in the next 24 hours, I might have resort to extreme measures, meaning...
TAKE YA TO THE MATTHEWS BRIDGE!!! |
BigHans
05.20.10 | I am writhing in anticipation for Gold Cobra. I may actually buy it just to have the album art. And to own an album called GOLD COBRA. |
Inveigh
05.20.10 | it's the year of the COBRA dawg, if you don't buy it you're supporting the terrorists |

05.20.10 | listening to 8 right now, it's better than I remember
i think Limp Bizkit have some new songs up on their myspace btw |

05.20.10 | Gold Cobra is honestly the only album I'm on the edge of my seat for this year. |
Urinetrouble
05.20.10 | why try, ya gonna die, one more sucka mc gonna fry
2010YEAROFTHECOBRA!!!!
seriously excited for it. borlands guitar work on the new song and samples are insane |
Inveigh
05.20.10 | ^I'm pretty sure that Gold Cobra will be the only thing on the mind of Sputnikers from now until its release.
Fade: I was the whole album damnit! :-) but seriously, yeah 8's a lot better than I remember it. I listened to it like once a year ago, thought it was boring compared to Oceanic and never really gave it much time after that. I now realize that was a mistake. |
Inveigh
05.20.10 | ugh, "was" was supposed to be "want" |

05.20.10 | Apparently the only thing Sputnik loves more than Godspeed is Limp Bizkit.. |

1st rule of Gold Cobra: do not talk about Gold Cobra.
2nd rule of Gold Cobra: bring snacks for Fred (Fred likes snacks).
3rd rule of Gold Cobra: do NOT talk about snacks. |
BigHans
05.20.10 | I demand to be immediately promoted to staff so I can get dibs on reviewing Gold Cobra first. |
Inveigh
05.20.10 | hey, just review it anyways haha. I didn't know kingsoby was gonna review the new Felt album last year, and just posted mine the day it came out. I don't know if he cared or not, but he definitely waited like 2 or 3 weeks to post his after that... |
BigHans
05.20.10 | I have a feeling theres going to be at least 8 reviews of it. They will all either be 5's or 1's. Mine will be a 5 of course. |
Inveigh
05.20.10 | well, obviously. it should be like CTTS, Converge, Opeth and Godspeed where you can't rate it below a 2. |
BigHans
05.20.10 | That rating system is such a joke. I would rate CTTS and Jane Doe a 1 if I could. No offense, I know you like them.
BTW, I hear through the grapevine that Willie is the staff member that is going to take on Gold Cobra. He is probably the best choice to do it any way. |
Inveigh
05.20.10 | I'll agree with that, I always like Willie's reviews. Plus, he has more of a flair for the mainstream than most of the staff (didn't mean that as a good or bad thing, just a thing really).
and yeah, I like those bands. Well, I sorta like CTTS, I mean, I gave AtRU like a 3 or 3.5 I think. It's good, but I definitely don't listen to it very often. Converge on the other hand... |
theacademy
05.20.10 | @Hans im there with you buddy... wish i could give Master of Puppets the 1 it deservessssssssss |
BigHans
05.20.10 | Haha Academy.
Are you going to be joining me in reviewing GOLD COBRA?
I liked your sound off. |
Inveigh
05.20.10 | but academy, isn't the Bizkit like one of your favorite bands?
and they covered Master of Puppets AND Sanitarium??
and listed 'tallica as one of their biggest influences???
isn't it safe to say there would be no L-I-M-P without Metallica???? |
theacademy
05.20.10 | @hans yeeeeas
@inveigh, i mean, Dustin cites The Beatles as one of their biggest influences, and Thrice cover them all the time, but i still sorta hate the beatles.
Limp's cover of MoP (isn't wes singing for it) is weaker than it's cover of George fucking Michael... what does THAT say, hmm?
As far as their interactions go, i know the two bands have a history. Both did songs for Mission: Impossible 2 and played a concert together, but then the internet put them on opposite sides of a war.
While Metallica started suing you for downloading their shit, Limp gave free concerts to support Napster. Covers and influences are thrown around a lot... |
theacademy
05.20.10 | ...also i dont HATE metallica i just don't really like them. I like Kill 'Em All and random tracks. |
BigHans
05.20.10 | You secretly beat off to old pics of Hetfiled Academy. We all know you're a closet Metallica fan, you just like to argue. There, I have spoken the truth. |
theacademy
05.20.10 | i actually own over 70% of all promotional "St. Anger" merchandise ever produced! |
Inveigh
05.20.10 | hey man, I was just messing around. I don't seriously think there would be no Limp Bizkit without Metallica. Although I do think that whole Napster lawsuit thing is overblown though. I mean, if I'm supposed to support Limp Bizkit for doing the free Napster shows, then I guess I should support Creed too lol.
also, let's not forget that Metallica weren't the only ones in the suit (which named Napster as the defendent, they weren't suing me or any other people for downloading music). Dr. Dre, Eminem and Madonna were a few of the other notable names that sued Napster.
this just got really long-winded for no reason, sorry dude. |
Counterfeit
05.20.10 | Fred likes Creeds music (fyi). Also, this shit don't even have a release date. And barely has a tour set up for it. Starting to get annoyed.. |
theacademy
05.20.10 | i know metallica weren't the only offenders (i actually got sued by a band i love!), but both of the bands mentioned were the most outspoken on both ends of the spectrum. Also, a billion artists took sides, but Metallica actually sued, and Limp actually toured, and both were promoting the same soundtrack lol.
(like i said, others sued, and even more spoke, but I'm pretty sure it was just Limp and Cypress Hill who toured) |
Inveigh
05.20.10 | well there was that Napster festival/tour (I can't remember which one it was) where Creed and LB played, and Fred came out and dedicated Break Stuff to Scott Stapp because he was "walking around backstage like he was god or some shit" lol. that was awesome.
who did you get sued by academy? what site were you using? when did this happen? i'm extremely interested in this.. give me details! |
Inveigh
05.20.10 | oh, and I thought the release date was June 15th or something? |
Counterfeit
05.20.10 | Yeah he was just mad cuz creeds people treated them like shit or something. And lol, not even close. This album has been supposed to be coming out since late 09. Now they're saying july/august. I'm guessing sep/oct though.
=/ |
theacademy
05.20.10 | Na, man, that brings me back tho...to when radio still meant something to me. That was at DFP, not a concert for Napster... ("Dysfunctional Family Picinic") from WXRK (K-Rock, New York's ONLY rock station, which is now defunct)... also the band was RATM, and it was on Napster, right before its downfall. Still love Rage, nothing came of the suit... it was so early in the whole thing and i was like 12 lol... |
Inveigh
05.20.10 | wow that's nuts. lol at the concept of "Rage" Against the Machine suing somebody for that. those fake-ass corporate bastards. I also lol at the fact that they've never released an album that wasn't on a major label.
that being said I do really really like all three of their albums and still listen to them occasionally, though not as much as I did in middle school and high school. |
theacademy
05.20.10 | i'm pretty sure it was their label that sued, not them. i also don't get where they contradicted their political stance. I mean, i see this sort of thing out here a lot, but 99% of it is aimed at RATM. I mean, is Rise Against just in it for the sales? Does all the charity money raised by Linkin Park not matter because they make a ton of money themselves? Is it better for Linkin Park to not take a political stance and just donate, because if LP had the same ideas as RATM, they would be phonies? Or are they phonies anyway?
I just like to listen to RATM, and I don't disagree with their politics (although I dont consider it DOCTRINE either). They wrote plenty of it before they got big, and Morello is a pretty cool guy. idk. |
BigHans
05.20.10 | De La Rocha is a whiny, limp wristed commie sissy. Morello pretty much is too, but the man had some tasty riffs. I would love Rage without De La Rochas vocals. |
Inveigh
05.20.10 | I like Rage, and I listen to them knowing that it's mainly just rock/metal theater. And yes, it does make them phonies. They built their whole career upon a message of socialism mixed with anarchy, and yet they make millions off records produced and distributed by "the machine" itself.
It would be like me writing songs about being a vegetarian or vegan or some shit and then letting them use the songs in a McDonald's commercial so I could get paid.
I think RATM is good, entertaining stuff, as long as you don't take the lyrics seriously. It's like a Michael Moore movie almost, but somehow with a little less credibility. |
BigHans
05.20.10 | Exactly. That said, Guerrila Radio fucking rocks. |
Inveigh
05.20.10 | it does... but I wouldn't even put it in my top 5 Rage songs, and not even my favorite off that album. fav Rage songs:
Know Your Enemy
Born As Ghosts
War Without a Face
Take The Power Back
Wind Below
Testify, Guerilla Radio, People of the Sun and Freedom would all be close. |
Counterfeit
05.20.10 | Needs Born Of A Broken Man and The Ghost Of Tom Joad(cover, I know. But if fucking slays) |

05.20.10 | "They built their whole career upon a message of socialism mixed with anarchy...I think RATM is good, entertaining stuff, as long as you don't take the lyrics seriously. It's like a Michael Moore movie almost, but somehow with a little less credibility."
Only two responses for this:
1. Don't mistake "socialism" and "anarchism" with "dissent." Just because labor/immigration/public advocacy lawyers live in nicer houses than their clients doesn't mean their values are trivialized. There are different fights within the "machine," sometimes to win bigger fights, you need to make certain concessions. I don't think this makes them frauds. Political ideology is symbolically diluted in music and art all the time. Yeah, there's a big difference between RATM and the Dead Kennedys, but I wouldn't necessarily hold that difference against either band.
2. It's funny that you bring up Michael Moore, unless you did so on purpose, since he directed a fuckload of RATM's videos. Also, Moore's credibility is never, and has never, been an issue. It's his integrity that's called into question with his films. There's a pretty important difference.. js |
Inveigh
05.20.10 | I dunno, I question both his credibility and integrity. His older stuff (Roger and Me, Pets or Meat) was better, but anyone who says that France "got it right" when it comes to the economy and healthcare is an idiot. There's almost 25% unemployment in France right now, they definitely don't have it right.
and I don't necessarily blame Rage I guess, it's more just how seriously people take them. Some of their fans think they're like some super important political activists or Che Guevara-like figures, when really they're just another popular band that makes money off selling an image. It just so happens that the image happens to come packed with awesome songs.
If you want an example of a "political" or "conscious" band that does it without being remotely hypocritical, look at Propagandhi. |
theacademy
05.20.10 | lol but nobody knows abotu propagandhi (outside of audiophiles). they never had a platinum record... |

So, apparently, there's no leak and stream for this unreleased album yet. Not all of the songs are on YouTube. Moreover, a bunch of these have been (even by the people who made them) joke 5's and some seem to be troll 1's. Annihilate all ratings for this please. Thank you, have a nice day.
