| American Forest Metal Scene
You know, bands like Ukraine's Drudkh and Hungary's Forest Silence like to get all fancy with their love for mother nature's creations but neither country has a scene devoted to the forest, ocean, mountains, etc. Until we come to America. Of course. Wolves in the Throne Room is to blame for this atmospheric tree hugging madness that sees all the corpse paint washing away with the celestial rainfall. Key traits of this northern state based style include plenty of acoustic interludes, occasional clean vocals that pine for the simpler days of prehistoric man, shaman rituals, a raw but aggressive black metal base, and post-rock/drone elements. As a farmer myself, I'm a sucker for these kinds of bands, not just for their Captain Planet gimmicks but because they make for a good soundtrack when plowing up beds and growing vegetables like my ancestors did. Here's 11 bands I know of that fit the bill. | 1 | | Wolves in the Throne Room Diadem of 12 Stars
Ahh," the band" that kicked the American scene in the balls and since then became a hipster's wet dream. | 2 | | Agalloch Pale Folklore
Yet Agalloch has been around since 1995 playing a melodic folky, doomy, post rockish meets black metal when things were not as alive and well as they were now. | 3 | | Blood Of The Black Owl A Feral Spirit
Black/funeral doom with a flute and shaman vocals. Pretty cool.
We no longer see, the forests...
The trees no longer speak, to us...
The birds have ceased to sing...
We wear the skins...
Of the carrion fowl... | 4 | | Njiqahdda Yrg Alms
8 EP's and 3 full lengths. In 2010 alone. This band is relatively sound from what i've heard . Atmospheric Black Metal/Psychedelic Rock/Ambient is their prescribed sound. | 5 | | Oaks of Bethel The Folk and the Ground
Same guys as above. Everything they release is a 1 track 50 minute recording. Drone-ish with annoying vocals harrowing in the background. | 6 | | Panopticon Collapse
Lyrics have nothing to do with raising the pagan forest army to kill the English king but the acoustic guitars and atmospheric sound definitely fit the bill. It is not a Christianality theme, it is fictional, but no religion in the music, it is Okay, it is funny, do you need some coffee from a Christian coffee shop? | 7 | | Echtra A War for Wonder
2, 23 minute tracks of gloomy melancholy and a monkey ripping off your face keyboards to heaviness ratio. | 8 | | Falls Of Rauros Hail Wind and Hewn Oak
Heavier than previous band with acoustic guitars layering the onslaught to man's inevitable fall. A slight depressive slant. Good shit. | 9 | | Celestiial Where Life Springs Eternal
Ball crushing funeral doom with running streams of water, chirping birds and somber yet uplifting acoustic melodies that remind one of the journey's of the Legend Of Zelda:Ocarina of time. | 10 | | Skagos Ast
sup WITTR. One of the better bands here. Good singing. | 11 | | Fauna Rain
One 60 minute track. Opens with rain, acoustic guitar and fourty minutes later it erupst into black metal. | 12 | | All in all Pretentious yet dynamic black metal which loves accoustic guitars and somber tones.
With the amount of floods, and oil spills, fucked up weather patterns, tsunamis, and the melting of the Arctic, it's safe to say we're doomed to die a slow and painful death. However, it's not too late to get in on the action and reedem yourselve before the waves obliterate your town into nothingness. | |
