Bands I Saw In 2009

I didn't actually see the last two. I wanted to go to both, but got bailed on at the last minute (during the same week, too!)
1Mastodon

Possibly my favorite band, but I was slightly disappointed because I had to sit down on a balcony and watch through people's legs to see.
2Kylesa

Opening for Mastodon. Better on record, honestly. The two drummers are cool, but Laura Pleasants handles the live screams, and she sucks at them.
3Intronaut

Opening for Mastodon. They were actually my favorite performance of the three. The guitarists putting their stuff away and walking off while the rhythm section played the end of Australopithecus was so cool.
4Opeth

Actually the best live act I saw last year, despite not playing anything from Blackwater Park.
5Enslaved

Opening for Opeth. They did okay.
6John Fogerty

My family got invited to this at the last minute. He got delayed for an hour and therefore played a short set, but he got most of the hits in. I was by far the youngest person there, though.
7Sonic Youth

Two encores with five songs in total! I had a major headache by Silver Rocket's bridge, but it was worth it. The played three of my top five off of Daydream Nation and everything off of the Eternal besides A Thunderclap For Bobby Pyn (I think). Coincidentally, I was listening to Thunderclap when I got in a car accident a couple weeks ago.
8The Entrance Band

Opening for SY. Decent.
9Memphis May Fire

This was for a friend's birthday. They were the best band at this show, which was at the smallest venue I have ever been to or will go to in my life. They were actually opening for Fear Before, but we didn't stay that long. The next four bands opened this show
10Of Machines

A bunch of samey breakdowns, but they had good stage presence. They had the worst collective hair I've ever seen, but my friend whose birthday at was thought they were hot. She likes her men girly.
11This Time Next Year

Dear god was this band atrocious. Their drummer wore a bandana and glasses with no lenses. He hit his drums way too hard and sounded awful. They played shitty pop-punk and we all sat down for them. Their bassist had massive calves.
12Dream In Stereo

I completely forgot everything about this band's performance.
13A Terrible Local Band Whose Name Escapes Me

Yup.
14Baroness

Was going to go to this, but my friend's parents sprung a "surprise vacation" on her at the last minute.
15Russian Circles

This was going to be a make-up show, but the friend I was going with for this chose to stay home with his extended family (it was the day after Thanksgiving).
