My 2009 Top 10
Honorable mentions included |
1 | | RX Bandits Mandala
This is an amazing progressive rock record. There really isn't a bad track on here and each one has something different to bring to the table. This is my favorite RX record. |
2 | | Propagandhi Supporting Caste
On Supporting Caste, Propagandhi really push the boundries with punk music. There is lots of shredding and moments of technical prowess on this record. However, at the same time, it is still a lot of fun to listen to and some of the songs are pretty catchy. |
3 | | Emery ...In Shallow Seas We Sail
This is a great comeback for Emery. In fact, this is arguably their best record. All the songs are very intricate vocally as well as instrumentally. The guys from Emery really know how to write a great song. I reccomend the title track. |
4 | | Mastodon Crack The Skye
Crack The Skye is quite a departure from their other records. Almost to a point where you can't even compare it. I enjoy Blood Mountain just a little bit more, but this is still a damn good record by Mastodon. |
5 | | Divinity The Singularity
This is an awesome progressive death metal record. The instrumental side of it is extremely tight while the vocalist has good clean and screamed delivery. |
6 | | An Endless Sporadic An Endless Sporadic
This album may be outshined by their EP. But it is still an awesome 2009 release. There are a lot of great jams on this record |
7 | | Sights And Sounds Monolith
Monolith is pretty underrated. It is jam packed with epic rock songs produced by Devin Townsend. |
8 | | Between The Buried And Me The Great Misdirect
There is a split opinion regarding this album. On its own, it's an awesome record by Between The Buried And Me that refines the experiments on Colors to make a more digestable record. The only issue is that it doesn't hold up well with the rest of their discography as some of the riffs can sound recycled from their older works. |
9 | | August Burns Red Constellations
Constellations is probably one of my favorite metalcore records alongside We Are The Romans and Controller. They really improve their sound from Messengers. In my opinion, Messengers had way too many breakdowns. Constellations, however, is more creative and is their best record to date. |
10 | | Strike Anywhere Iron Front
The newest record by Strike Anywhere is not one to miss. In my opinion, it is a sendback to Change Is A Sound era. The musicians talent isn't really anything to write home about. But the guys have great composition skills and managed to throw together a swell melodic punk record for the latter half of 2009. |
11 | | Raekwon Only Built 4 Cuban Linx... Pt II
Honorable Mention. This is one of my first forays into rap. I really enjoyed it. |
12 | | Buckethead A Real Diamond In The Rough
Honorable Mention. This is a good album to relax too. |
