| Top 20 Metal Albums Of 2009
Here it is, my metal list for 2009. And what a year it has been. So many good albums came out I had to extend my usual 10 item lists to 20. So here they are. Im gonna give an Honorable mention to the Binary Code - Suspension Of Disbelief. | 1 | | Enfold Darkness Our Cursed Rapture
After seeing this band live, it was confirmed. This was my best record of 2009. Not only is their lead singer hilarious, but he has a dragonball tattoo on his arm. Come on now. Thats awesome. Anyways to the music. They played EVERY note spot on. It was like listening to the CD. And oh, wow, what a CD. It's like The Faceless, with Black Dahlia Murder vocals. It's insane, and they've got amazing Acoustic parts. As you can tell, Im completely biased on this one, but whatever. | 2 | | Scale The Summit Carving Desert Canyons
This is probably my favorite instrumental album of all time. It makes me feel so many different emotions while listening to the songs, like I actually feel like im on The Great Plains when I listen to The Great Plains. It's an incredible album and manages to stay interesting throughout the entire album without vocals. | 3 | | Coalesce Ox
2009 - The Year of the Comeback. But more importantly, YEAR OF THE OX. Coalesce's latest is also in my opinion their best, making up for their long absence in the music world. | 4 | | The Arusha Accord The Echo Verse
How could I make a list and not put a "djent" album on here. This album is pretty mathy, and I enjoy the clean vocals quite a bit. It'll have to do until the debut albums of Periphery and TesseracT. | 5 | | Katatonia Night Is The New Day
This was my first encounter with Katatonia, and Im happy it happened. Gloomy, progressive, and emotional, this is a monster of an album. | 6 | | Between The Buried And Me The Great Misdirect
Only 6 songs on this thing, but it manages to hold my interest throughout, which is quite a feat. Not quite as good as colors, but still very impressive. | 7 | | Converge Axe To Fall
NO metal list is complete without this this year. Not as good as Jane Doe, of course, but, similar to BTBAM, it's my second favorite album of theirs. | 8 | | Circle Of Contempt Artifacts In Motion
Best deathcore album of the year. It's progressive deathcore, not the usual, ordinary, boring generic deathcore. The breakdowns are well executed and they don't drive their music like so many other deathcore bands. | 9 | | Architects Hollow Crown
Very similar to The Arusha Accord, but not quite as good. If they toured together it would be a dream. | 10 | | Revocation Existence Is Futile
I will not stop promoting this album. It needs to be heard. It's tech death/thrash, so GET IT. You wont regret it. | 11 | | Funebrarum The Sleep Of Morbid Dreams
Blackened Death Metal hasnt sounded this good in a while. It certainly has an old school vibe, and it sounds great. | 12 | | Anaal Nathrakh In The Constellation Of The Black Widow
Very recently aquired, and a good thing too. Their blend of Black Metal/grindcore is unmistakable. And it's incredibly brutal. | 13 | | Daath The Concealers
This came out pretty early in the year, but its very awesome progressive death metal. Eyal is a genius. | 14 | | Ulcerate Everything Is Fire
Brutal tech death. And of course, most likely, Sputniks choice of metal album of the year. | 15 | | Tracedawn Ego Anthem
I dont know what to make of this. It's like melodic progressive death metal, with clean vocals often. It's quite the listen, actually. | 16 | | The Red Chord Fed Through The Teeth Machine
The Red Chord makes their best album since Fused In Revolving Doors. | 17 | | Ensiferum From Afar
I have a guilty pleasure for Melodic Death/folk. Can't wait for Wintersun next year. | 18 | | Shining VI - Klagopsalmer
One of the best black metal albums of the year. | 19 | | CiLiCe Deranged Headtrip
Most overlooked album of the year for me. Everyone needs to check this out. It's Djent, and quite good at that. | 20 | | Behemoth Evangelion
This was my first listen to Behemoth, and it's my favorite record by them | |

12.05.09 | Year isn't done dude. | Poet
12.05.09 | Yeah it is, what you talking about. | FeralMemories
12.05.09 | Yeah. Out of the hundreds of top of 2009 lists already been made, it makes no sense to say that to my list. | Wizard
12.05.09 | I've been saying it on pretty much every list posted. These lists are retarded anyways because there is always stuff that will take some more time to digest and thus go up and down all the time on these lists | FeralMemories
12.05.09 | Thats probably true. But its a list section. It's my list. So. :) | Wizard
12.05.09 | My bad, I shouldn't attack when I will be doing a list myself in Jan/ Feb sometime hahahaha.
Also, list has some essentials on it: 3,5,7,11,14,16. I can't find that Shining album anywhere. | FeralMemories
12.05.09 | Good luck on finding it, that album got me more into black metal. | YouAreMySilence
12.05.09 | Needs more Wodensthrone and Wolves in the Throne Room.
I cant say I really enjoyed 2.
3 was great, except for the vocals.
I found 6 to be quite excellent and better than Colors.
7 and 14 are amazing.
9 and 18 are pretty great.
Can't get into 11 :/.
The production on 12 is fantastic, just not my thing.
Still need to listen to 16 though I doubt I'll enjoy it that much.
| Gyromania
12.05.09 | You forgot to add MPP | Piglet
12.05.09 | Megadeth? | FeralMemories
12.05.09 | I found Endgame highly overrated, as most other megadeth albums. Wolves in the throne room was pretty good however, it was close to making the list. | SlightlyEpic
12.05.09 | Cobalt - Gin
? | FeralMemories
12.05.09 | I really tried for cobalt. I did. I can't get into it :/ |
