Favorite Melodeath Albums
These are just my favorite melodeath albums, not the best ones.
|1||At The Gates|
Slaughter Of The Soul
This was originally gonna be lower, until I heard their cover of Legion. It's actually my favorite song on the album. A total classic.
Pitch Black Progress
I had a very hard time picking which scar symmetry album would go on here. I finally decided with PBP because it has the most amount of my favorite scar symmetry tracks.
While their earlier stuff is grindcore, this is pure melodeath right here, and a classic album at that.
I love this band, and I cant wait for their new release later this year. I loved the single, so who knows, it could turn into my favorite DM record.
The Jester Race
The best In Flames album, it has a perfect balance of folk elements and melodic death elements.
Architect Of Lies
This is my favorite Mercenary album.
Wasnt sure if this should be on this list, but I'll go ahead and add it.
I had a hard time choosing between this and the gallery, but I decided upon this one because the gallery was my least favorite out of the big 3 melodeath releases of 95.
Your Demons Their Angels
I really like this band, they're probably the most brutal of all the bands on this list. Their newest album is no slouch either.
The newest album on this list, Im really digging it.
1,5,8,10 are sweet
6 is good albeit pretty forgettable to me
4 is a bit boring imo, sorry. Will still check their new one when it drops.
Still haven't cheked out 7 and 3
9 picked my interest
Overall a great list
1, 2, 3, 5 and 8 are all in my collection -- dig em. Haven't heard the rest, might check them out. Have you ever listened to Autumn Leaves?
For Soilwork, check out A Predator's Portrait or The Chainheart Machine -- both melodeath classics in my book.
I second Autumn Leaves. Check out their album As Night Conquers Day
Soilwork is a preferred taste, I don't dig 'em that much, but you may like them as they have the same vocalist that Disarmonia Mundi has. Also check out Be'lakor - The Frail Tide. Some really good progressive melodeath
I have most of soilworks discography, surprisingly, Stabbing the drama was my favorite of theirs, even though its not really melodeath. As for Autumn leaves, never even heard of them but from what I've heard so far, it's pretty good.
^Soilwork is definitely a preferred/acquired taste, but I usually rec them to people who dig Scar Symmetry because they sound somewhat similar (especially Pitch Black Progress) -- their vocalists remind me of one another.
I didn't know Speed was the vocalist for Disarmonia Mundi though; I guess that's what I get for not checking them out.
Yeah Disarmundia uses two vocalists, and one of them is Speed.
Ah bro, you gotta rate all your albums. I like basically everything Soilwork's ever done, with the exception of Figure Number Five and Sworn to a Great Divide. Everything else is pretty top-notch in my opinion (especially the first 4 records).
1 and 5 are overrated :/
Really nice to see 6 on here. It's a very solid album that I enjoy a lot.
1's not really overrated in my book, but 5 certainly is. I like Whoracle and Colony much more.
yer well u both suck
6 aren't melodeath imo but a great band nonetheless
5,8 - agree on those
1 would be better if it wasn't the same song 9 times + 2 instrumentals
Melodeath is slowly becoming one of my favorite sub-genres of metal. List is great.
Check these out if you haven't yet:
Watch Me Fall - Worn
In Vain - The Latter Rain
Insomnium - Since The Day It All Came Down
Be'lakor - Stone's Reach
Hacksaw To The Throat - Wastelands
Kalmah - Any of their first three albums
1, 2, and 3 are some of my favorites, too
I love Carcass, but Heartwork is way overrated. Swansong slays it.
Dark Tranquillity's best album isn't up there. I know, hard time choosing between Fiction and The Gallery. You should haev just put them both up on there, haha.
Wintersun might not really "belong" fully cause many consider them folk/power metal based - fuck genres though, it is an absolutely incredible album. He is taking too damn long to release Time, I've been waiting patiently but it's getting out of hand!
