My Musical Progression
This is a look at my musical progression from the first album I ever bought up to right now. I think it's pretty interesting to see how far I've come. |
1 | | Savage Garden Savage Garden
The first album I ever remember buying with my own money. I had to have been like 10 or something. I honestly can still enjoy this album. For my first album I think I could have done a lot worse. But ya this is where it all started in my book. |
2 | | Blink-182 Enema of the State
I listened to this so much I had every word and lick memorized. I can't even play the disc anymore. But this marked the beginning of my enjoyment of punk and rock music in general. |
3 | | Kiss Destroyer
My uncle was the biggest Kiss fan ever, and one day I went to his room and randomly put this in and basically turned me into the biggest Kiss fan ever throughout my childhood. Kiss still has a soft place in my heart. This is where it seemed all I would listen to is classic rock. |
4 | | Def Leppard Hysteria
Started my binge on hair metal. Honestly I though bands like Def Leppard and Poison and Whitesnake were so talented and amazing. I was young cut me some slack. This is still a good album in my eyes though. |
5 | | Metallica Master of Puppets
My dad of all people had this in cassette form and it totally blew me away. I didn't know music could be this fast and HEAVY. Been a Metallica fan ever since and started my enjoyment for heavier and less happy tunes. |
6 | | Korn Untouchables
At this point I'm an angry teenager and this was my first Korn album. I absolutely adored this album and I can admit it. I was a whiney little 13 year old and though Korn was the heaviest shit ever. lol man oh man, but this marks my listening to nu-metal. |
7 | | Mudvayne The End of All Things to Come
Still in my nu-metal phase but Mudvayne just seemed different to me. Now it was possible for me to listen to more harsh vocals. I got this before LD 50, but this was definately the craziest shit I had listened to up to this point in my life. I'm probably just starting high school now. |
8 | | The Beatles Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band
I had always heard this was a classic and I was tired of listening to "angry music" and thought I'd dabble into The Beatles. Well needless to say I didn't know that music could be this diverse. Not only did this start my love of The Beatles, but now I was into more unconventional stuff. |
9 | | The Mars Volta Frances the Mute
Bought this just because of the weird track list on the back. Started my love of prog music in general. I didn't know it was ok to have songs over 10 minutes before this lol. Very important turning point in my musical progression right here. |
10 | | Pink Floyd Dark Side of the Moon
Start of my love for Pink Floyd and concept records. Still into Prog in a big way. |
11 | | Coheed and Cambria Good Apollo, I'm Burning Star IV...
I initially didn't like Coheed cuz I writ them off as another douchey emo pop punk band. Then I heard Welcome Home. Coheed is now my favorite band and this is still my concept/prog phase. Very important album to me though. |
12 | | Opeth Blackwater Park
This is the first album I checked out after getting on Sputnik. I absolutely hated it at first. I hated the growling and it bored me to no end. Months later it clicked and now I'm a douchey Opeth fanboy like everybody else. Became a much bigger fan of metal in general and now could appreciate growled vocals. |
13 | | Godspeed You! Black Emperor F#A# (infinity)
Another album Sputnik introduced me. I didn't know music could be made in this way and it totally knocked me on my ass. Now I was getting into music for the feeling I got from it and the atmosphere. Started my love of post rock. |
14 | | Ulver Bergtatt
First black metal album and is still the best one. At first I didn't like the thin production but then I grew to love it. Now I really enjoy black metal. |
15 | | Death Symbolic
Though I have been listening to Opeth for sometime I still wasn't really into death metal before this. This is probably my favorite straight up death metal album. Everything about it is epic, fast, and brutal, with some progressive elements in it as well. Death Metal is now one of my favorite genres of music. |
16 | | X Japan Art of Life
Not since F#A# had I been so floored by an album. This is a true masterpiece and now is my phase where i keep tryin to find music as epic and powerful as this. None would live up to Art of Life however. |
17 | | Converge Jane Doe
God I hated this at first. The vocals sucked and it was just a mess. It must have taken a year to grow on me but when it finally did it was worth it. This got me into Hardcore and Grind music. |
18 | | Maudlin of the Well Bath
Well I just listened to this a couple months ago so this seems fitting. It's definatley one of the more unique things I've ever listened to. This got me into more art stuff and Kayo Dot too. |
