| Dream Theater Ranked
One of my all-time favorite bands. Didn't include WDADU. | 1 | | Dream Theater Awake
This was the second Dream Theater album I got, after Octavarium. I remember getting it very shortly after
joining this site almost 2 1/2 years ago, and back then, I found it dreadfully boring for the most part.
However, as my music tastes have matured and expanded, my love for this album has grown and grown.
Only just recently did I decide this was my favorite Dream Theater album. Unlike every other Dream
Theater album, there is absolutely no weak point on this album. I love every song on here, which is
difficult to say for an 11 song, 75 minute long prog-metal album. Voices is definitely one of their best
songs. | 2 | | Dream Theater Images and Words
I am very comfortable with giving this a 5/5 rating as well, and could probably put this in my top 10
albums of all time as well. Though this album has some better overall songs than Awake, such as
"Metropolis" and "Learning to Live," imo "Another Day" and "Surrounded" are noticably weaker than the
other tracks. That doesn't keep this album from being a classic, however. | 3 | | Dream Theater Metropolis Part 2: Scenes From a Memory
This used to be my all-time favorite album of theirs, and it was the first concept album I ever listened to.
Though I definitely still love the whole album, I've realized that besides the excellent songs "Home" and
"The Spirit Carries On," which are both among their top tracks, none of the other tracks really stand out
on their own. That could be expected with a concept album I suppose, but still. | 4 | | Dream Theater Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence
Without a doubt the best DT album of the 2000s. With songs like The Glass Prison, Blind Faith, and the 40
minute title track, you can't go wrong here. | 5 | | Dream Theater Black Clouds and Silver Linings
Currently in my top 5 albums of 2009. I've said it numerous times but I was very pleasantly surprised with
this album. Definitely their strongest effort since 6DOIT, especially "The Count of Tuscany." | 6 | | Dream Theater Train of Thought
I feel that with songs such as "As I Am" and "Honor thy Father," DT tried too hard to be pissed off and
"m3t4l." However, this still is very solid throughout. I've grown quite fond of "Vacant" recently, but
"Endless Sacrifice" is easily my favorite. | 7 | | Dream Theater Octavarium
An interesting mix of songs on this one. On one hand, you have classic songs like the 24 minute title
track, which is one of my personal favorite songs of all time, and "The Root of All Evil." "Panic Attack," and
perhaps "Sacrificed Sons" and "These Walls" are also very good songs for the most part. However, the
remaining three songs are essentially among the very worst written by Dream Theater, even though I
kinda like "I Walk Beside You." | 8 | | Dream Theater Falling Into Infinity
I absolutely adore "Trial of Tears" and "Lines in the Sand." There are a few other gems here, but for the
most part it just doesn't compare to their better releases. However, I do for the most part enjoy every
song on here, and it's an especially chill album to listen to during the summer. | 9 | | Dream Theater A Change of Seasons
Well the title track is probably my favorite song ever. Hard to rank this with their other albums though,
since the remaining 30 minutes consist of covers. | 10 | | Dream Theater Systematic Chaos
I wouldn't go so far to call this a terrible album, but there really isn't a lot of great material on here. I like
"In the Presence of Enemies," "Repentance" and "The Ministry of Lost Souls" (even though the
instrumental section is really unnecessary) but the rest is kinda meh. | |

06.05.09 | I agree with you on how surprisingly awesome Black Clouds is. | Willie
06.05.09 | I actually agree with this list, but I'd switch 5 and 4 (maybe, I haven't decided for sure). 5 has been a bitch to review. | Jim
06.05.09 | pretty straight list. although 6doit is quite high for my liking | Lunarfall
06.05.09 | a change of seasons is an ep, not an album
i would personally go 3, 1, 6, 2, 7, 4, 10, 8
havent heard the new album or their first yet though | Bfhurricane
06.05.09 | 6DOIT is one of my favorite albums ever, I think the second disc is such an overlooked part of DT's discography. It's the answer to everyone who claims DT overwanks, are too pretentious, too metal, etc...
I think Octavarium is the best of their last three albums. It does the metal thing without overdoing it, which they do in their last two (including BC&SL). | Willie
06.05.09 | I totally agree with you about the second disc (except I skip the first track). I listen to that one twice as much as disc 1.
We definitely disagree about Black Clouds, though. I think the metal thing actually helped them. | FadeToBlack
06.05.09 | My list would be completely different to this.
My favourites are 6, 1 and 7 | OllieS
06.05.09 | Nice stuff Bodom, agree with most as always | A7XEric
06.05.09 | I have yet to give awake and I&W a proper listen, but generally I agree with this list. | Yazz_Flute
06.05.09 | yeah I know ACoS is an EP, I just felt like including it simply because the title track is so good. | FadeToBlack
06.05.09 | Good to see that you like Vacant, very underrated song | Yazz_Flute
06.05.09 | I don't believe in santa clause, john myung, or the tooth fairy. | nick0307
06.19.09 | i agree, a change of seasons is an awesome song. awake was the first DT album i ever bought (when i was about 13 or something) and i loved it, it was pretty much the first progressive thing id ever heard | Masochist
06.19.09 | IT'S JUST LIKE
IT'S JUST LIKE
A MINI MALL!
#7 gets so much flak, but man, I like so many of the songs on there. I've got 6DIT, but I've yet to explore it as deeply as #'s 1-3 and 7. | Yazz_Flute
06.19.09 | Yeah Octavarium's a tough one because half of it is classic, but the other half is poop. | Bleak
07.22.09 | I pretty much agree with this except it seems like I'm the only person at sputnik who loved Systematic Chaos. |
