Two Year Anniversary Fuck Omg
Today is my two year anniversary for being a member of
sputnikmusic.com. While the my
first year here mostly found me getting into more extreme
and...better metal, a good
amount of this second year was helping me branch out of
metal. I looked through my itunes
and picked out my 40 favorite new bands and favorite album
of theirs that I got into from
February 3rd 2008-February 3rd 3009. Granted about half of
these are still metal, but I
picked my favorites and metal still is my favorite genre. |
1 | | The Absence From Your Grave
I got Riders of the Plague over the summer and thought it got a bit boring as it progressed. However, I
picked this up a few weeks ago cuz I was in the mood for some good melodic death metal and fell in
love
with it. Much easier, and imo better listen that Riders of the Plague, even though I believe that "The
Murder" is their best song. Since I got this i've began to appreciate and like Riders more too. |
2 | | Arghoslent Hornets of the Pogrom
Downloaded this sometime over the summer cuz of the high praise it received on the site. With
repeated
listens, it became one of my favorite death metal albums of 2008. |
3 | | At the Drive-In Relationship of Command
One of the first post-hardcore bands I got into (barring Thrice). This quickly went into my top 50
albums of
all time and while it didn't totally open my eyes to this fantastic genre like Thrice did, they helped me
get
into some other bands on this list like Glassjaw and even The Mars Volta. |
4 | | Be'Lakor The Frail Tide
I remember finding this on northernwarriors and remembering Crimson giving this a very positive
review.
Needless to say I checked it out and it became one of my favorite albums of all time. It has worn off a
bit
since then but is still a brilliant album. Can't wait for their newest. |
5 | | Circle Takes the Square As the Roots Undo
When I first heard this album, it was the most strange and intriguing album I had ever heard compared
to
what I usually listened to. The vocals initially put me off but now it has become one of my favorites. |
6 | | Converge Jane Doe
Converge. |
7 | | Cryptopsy None So Vile
RUH RUH RUHHHHHHHH |
8 | | Deltron 3030 Deltron 3030
First hip-hop album I actually bought. It has totally changed the way I thought about the genre. |
9 | | Demians Building an Empire
Probably my top album of 2008 tbh, I think i've grown to enjoy it more than Sagas by now. More people
should here this I'm like the only one obsessing over this album on sputnik. |
10 | | Dredg El Cielo
Soooo good see my deion under my 5 star album list from a few weeks ago. |
11 | | Explosions in the Sky The Earth is Not a Cold Dead Place
Only just recently got into these guys. Beautiful album. |
12 | | Fair to Midland Fables From a Mayfly
Also got into these guys just this year. Love this. |
13 | | Faith No More Angel Dust
Mike Patton is a fucking genius. |
14 | | Garden of Shadows Oracle Moon
Another Crimson review. |
15 | | Glassjaw Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About
See 10. |
16 | | Have a Nice Life Deathconsciousness
One of the most beautiful, depressing albums I've ever heard. Helped me get into shoegazey/post-rock
whatever this is shit. |
17 | | Hopesfall The Satellite Years
Grows on me with every listen. Awesome band I need more of their albums. |
18 | | Hypocrisy Virus
One of my favorite death metal acts. |
19 | | Ikuinen Kaamos Closure
These guys are just so good. Was looking forward to Epilogue but Descent fucked that up. Need them
to
put another album out 10 songs from them isn't enough. |
20 | | In Mourning Shrouded Divine
One of the first albums I got into during the past year. Still hasn't worn off of me despite the 30+ full
listens. |
21 | | In Vain The Latter Rain
Looking forward to Mantra these guys kick ass. |
22 | | Intronaut Prehistoricisms
Fascinating post-metal right here. |
23 | | Johnny Truant In the Library of Horrific Events
One of the best metalcore albums i've heard. |
24 | | Kayo Dot Choirs of the Eye
See 10. |
25 | | Lost Horizon Awakening the World
Better than their other one. Awesome power metal. |
26 | | The Mars Volta De-loused in the Comatorium
I actually checked these guys out after ATDI. This and Frances the Mute are near-perfect albums, but I
prefer this slightly cuz it's easier to stomach. |
27 | | Maudlin of the Well Bath
Revolutionized pretty much my whole perception of music. Best band I got into this year. Also see 10. |
28 | | Meshuggah Catch Thirty-Three
Ironically this is my favorite Meshuggah album ad the one I find drags the least...idk but I love it. |
29 | | Mr. Bungle California
See 13. |
30 | | The Ocean Collective Precambrian
A lengthy listen but definitely worth it. I need more of their stuff. |
31 | | Pain of Salvation The Perfect Element Part One
I thought I got into these guys earlier, but apparently not. One of my favorite bands ever right now
along
with Opeth and Dream Theater. |
32 | | Pg.Lost It's Not Me, It's You!
Probably my favorite post-rock album atm. |
33 | | Radiohead OK Computer
Generic |
34 | | Refused The Shape of Punk to Come
Classic |
35 | | Scar Symmetry Holographic Universe
Shame Alvestam left, he's one of my favorite death metal vocalists, and I love his cleans too. |
36 | | SikTh Death of a Dead Day
Technical, spastic, inane metal. This is the shit. |
37 | | Skyfire Mind Revolution
Can't wait for Esoteric. These guys are better than Norther, Kalmah, even CoB and every other band
they've been compared to. |
38 | | Sonata Arctica Ecliptica
First band I got into in the past year. Album makes me ejaculate for joy. |
39 | | Subterranean Masquerade Suspended Animation Dreams
Downloaded this promptly after seeing it on balls' list recently. It gets better with every listen. Everyone
should check this out, it's unlike anything else i've ever heard. |
40 | | A Wilhelm Scream Career Suicide
Everything these guys do is gold. Have Mute Print coming in the mail. |
