The Devil Wears Prada ranked

Like most metalcore acts, remember a time when they were one of the most hated groups on this site? well now that time has passed roles on the opinions on the band have reversed (with the scene crowd being bitter at the band for not doing remaking plagues over and over, and christians now disliking the band for political reasons, and the band now having a generally positive reputation in places they were not well liked...like in Sputnik for example..i mean if i remember correctly there was a time when their albums were below a 3 average on this site. Now personally Prada have been a band i have alway enjoyed, though i kinda stopped paying attention to them a little after 2016, and in 2019 i managed to give "THE ACT" a listen and i love that album so much. The Idea of a TDWP discography run was always in the back of my mind after that, i was just not sure when to do it, but now that it is done, here is my ranking of every prada release (minus the one off singles like the "Still Fly" cover

Patterns of a Horizon

A demo of the Worst prada album, with minus 2 songs. While I do like this version of "Salvation" more then the one on the debut, this is overall not an album that is worth seeking out (especially with the snare here), unless you are a hardcore Prada fan who wants to flex that you have heard the demo on those normies who only know the singles from 2007-2011.

Dear Love: A Beautiful Discord

Truth be told, I have never really been too big on the debut, their is just something about it that never clicked with me. It is a "fine" metalcore album, their is nothing about it that is terrible, and even though it has not aged too well in the synth department, it is still ahead of it's peers at the time. Their is the potential of the band here, it is just a ton of rough edges.

Dead & Alive

While yes, some may have a problem with the live vocals, i do not necessarily mind them. Mike does sound out of breath, but that is because he just all over the stage as a performer (and the odd choice to do a live DVD with the last performance of the tour when nearly any metalcore vocalist would be worn out vocally) but he still sound rather okay (sadly, no memeable moments like the "2..3...4" from the 2014 warped tour danger wildman live performance)

8:18

On their 2013 full length, prada shifted to make an emotional release, with mike changing his screaming style completely, and it does pay off. A Lot of this albums tone overall has a rather cinematic feel (Seriously, so many songs here sound like they could be used for movie trailers like "gloom", "8:18" and "Care more"), though the album is a bit too simple and takes a way from the full on raw emotion the album was going for. While i was not as hot as i was on it when i was younger, this is still a really good album

Audiotree Live

Sour Breath was a great tease of what would come with the sound of "The Act" and the rest of this performance is very solid, in fact the songs sound very close to the studio version! Also a good way to hear Mike's vocals when he is not moving all over the stage like a "danger:wildman" (I know bad joke)

Plagues

This one surprised me, I was expecting a singles album but i instead i got one hell of a listing experience. Yes, the album take a bit of a decline in the second half, but their are some really great deep cuts in this album. also the synth work is somehow better then what is in most metalcore today. I get Mike and the band hate this album with a passion but I think this album in retrospect did a lot of things really well. and i can see why this is looked at as one of the 'best' scene albums

With Roots Above and Branches Below

The first prada studio release i heard, and it holds up really well. It is amazing how much growth their was from "Plagues" to this, while it is the last of their albums to be in the sphere of that sort of brand of metalcore the band had been doing, it is a massive upgrade in every shape and form with some really great synth parts through and the band starting to slow things down here and there ("Louder then thunder" is unexpectedly one of the best songs on the whole album), their is one catch "Lord Xeno", the closer might be one of the worst songs in the whole TDWP discography and prevents me from giving this album any higher then a 4

Space

This was a 5 for me for a while. but what brought it down for me is the somewhat incoherent narrative (also the interlude here is always a skip for me), do not get me wrong, i love Love LOVE this EP, and the sci-fi theme is perfect for the shift in sound and direction prada were making. Is the Ridley scott inspired plot noncencial? Yes. But is it a fun ride of nonsense? YES

Dead Throne

yes, i know i gave this a 2.5 initially, but i figured i would give it a second go, and i am glad I did. This album just clicked with me more on my second go so perhaps it's a grower? but 'dead throne' was really enjoyable, and showed the bands growth from the zombie EP into more mature songwriting and the drop of wacky song titles. Bonus points for "Pretenders" the Asking Alexandria diss track. my only minor issue is the vocal mixing, they tried to make mikes lows sound deeper (and heavier) and as a result his mids sound very...pterodactyl like i guess? but still this was the first full length to be taken fully seriously

Transit Blues

After hearing his in full, i really wish i got around to hearring it in full back in 2016 (which is odd the album left my radar seeing how much i liked "Daughter" and "The key of Evergreen" leading up to its release), While some people may cry fowl that mikes low's are no longer present, "Transit blues" is an album where TDWP transition but do not lose their identity, I cannot even think of a weak track or one that brought the whole listing experience. Not to mention this album goes harder then pretty much anything on the first 2 LPs, yes i said it, fight me

2The Devil Wears Prada
The Act

My number 1 album of 2019 (well it was in a 3 way tie, but still) It is in a very close race with my #1 pick (i was almost considering making it a tie) Their is just so much of this album that i absolutely love. From the heavier cuts like "The Thread" with one hell of a climax, "Lines of Your Hands" with its desperation tone in the chorus and inclusion of female vocals during the bridge to add to the songs neritive, "Switchblade" which showed mike's lows were back, or the closer "Spiderhead". To the albums softer cuts like the cautionary tail of self destruction and addiction in "Chemical" or the haunting foreboding "Please Say No" (which if you did not know, is based off the book "Never Come Morning). The songwriting is absolutely top notch and the album takes many...,many risks (like the very noise rock "Isn't It Strange") and every single one pays off

Zombie

like i said, the race for number 1 on here is really close between these 2 and i was constantly shifting which one i liked more. In the end i have to give it to zombie EP as it is a concept EP about...well zombie apocalypse executed flawlessly. The basswork on this album is really incredible and really does a number on making this album so great. Another overlooked thing about this album is the brilliant use of horror music cues like the piano part in the start of "Escape" that sounds like it's from a slasher film. interlude parts are fantastic and add to everything, and who can forget the iconic yet really bleak ending "Survivor" (well whole album is bleak, in fact if not for the "My will is in Gods hands line" in "Revive" one would not know this is a christian band) and Mike's screams from his mids to his lows have a more primal and raw edge to them.this is one of the few albums where whenever i wanna hear a song from it, i just play the whole EP through, it is that good.
