I'm not going to lose any sleep over it, this is a walk in the park compared to that Brexit result. |

Which showed the establishment were scared. That was the last chance of a left leaning government. Labour will retreat to centre , Tory light again like with that lizard cunt Blair. This nation is an Island full of fucking mongoloids who have some fucked up idea that we are still an Empire and by leaving the EU all the brown and black people will suddenly dissapear and they can freely go back to fucking their cousins and 'have their country back'. The next 5-10 years are going to be horrendous for anyone near the breadline and the sick and needy. Worse off , as in the states, it has shown you can just throw shit and Lie in your campaigns and see what sticks. No recourse. Just smear and Lie your way to power because people are fucking dumb. 'When do the riots start?'
The government has been democratically elected. The Saudis are fine though never mention that they are the worst terrorists on the fucking planet who are still beheading Journalists and shit, oh no.
All that 'terrorist sympathising' horse shit is a Tory soundbite picked up by the right and regurgitating without any fucking context by the media. Same as the Anti Semite shouts which are WORLDWIDE if you dare to criticise the Israeli government as everyone knows. The galvanized right under this 'Country back' illusion. The Labour MPs who defected (who ALL lost their seats) and Brexit party taking votes away. This wasnt a straight election because of the whole Brexit shadow over it but Corbyn would NEVER have got in power with the UK electorate with that I agree. 12.13.19 | "personally still want proportional representation one day"
Labour wanted to get rid of fptp so there is hope. The main thing preventing a change is the public, not the parties. Most people don't know what a proportional representation system is. It's a niche issue. |

Theres no doubt that they should have been handled better and more head on. Because he then became a poster boy for anti semitism in politics in the media especially for those jewish and black loving right wing angels. (I watched a clip of a guy with a Swastika on his coat call out Corbyn for Anti semitism hahah Jesus). But its definitely mishandled. Does it make him an anti semite, clearly no. Was his handling of it within his party well handled? clearly no also. But again Islamapobia is RIFE within the conservatives and not even a whisper in teh press.
'Also many critics of Israel happen to be antisemitic.' Of course just as millions also are not. And for me criticism of that Government is legitimate regardless if youre a cunt or not. For many its not but dont try and cover up or excuse the fact that anyone who is critical of Israel is instantly deemed anti semites regardless. Their Oldest form of defence that keeps on working. |

The Brexit stalemate within Labour effectively? Maybe.
I think Corbyn would have been as ruthless as circumstances allowed, I don't think the man bends his opinion at all. So not an ideal politician really, I mean those are the traits of a dictator.
The Tories and the NHS? I don't think they'll do much - if this election showed anything it is don't derp on the biggest issue. Once Brexit is out the way selling off the biggest vote winner would be suicide. There'll be some pharma deal with the US but it'll be limited in scope.
Labour also started some privitisation of the NHS - any moderate government prob would. Just because the tories have swung more to the right now I don't think they'll do any more than anyone else particularly...other than Corbyn's socialist party ok, that wanted to nationalise medicines which was a total pipe dream, never going to happen. That would have been a disastrous waste of cash. The types of medicines he would have been able to produce are the cheap non patent ones which are hardly the issue to solve, no one gives a shit about them, they're already cheap. |

We haven't even mentioned the nuclear deterrent yet - which alone prob makes him unelectable to a HUGE number of people (yup, that's where he lost me before anything else - in a way I don't need to worry about anything about him, he's gone on that alone) |

12.13.19 | Oh how naive you are Doof. I lived through the end of Thatcher. Where working class towns were fucking decimated. The NHS is already fucked its already been being sold off piece by piece by the Tories for years (up to 20% under them). Do you know anyone who works in a hospital? Speak to them. The tories are all about selling everything they can its what they do. The 'profit motive' brought to the NHS has destroyed it. The tories have been in Government a fucking decade. Look around you. Your 'I dont think theyll do anything' doesnt hold up to any scrutiny when held against what they have actually caused in the last 10 years of power. And please with that 'Labour did it first' that was under that Lizard Blair and new labour. And we all know how that turned out. Thats one of the problems I keep seeing. Such base tribalism. 'Wellllll your guys did this 15 years ago" "yeah but your guys did this 10 years ago' Who fucking care!s Its about NOW. And The effect of conservative government are all around us now. Austerity,Homelessness,Food banks, Lack of Nurses , Lack of police, fucking Brexit. Its all there to see. Its not going to get any better suddenly is it? |

12.13.19 | Deez - I'm not tribal about it, I'm anti Corbyn for dismantling the opposition government, when added to no prop representation it means most votes are wasted and there was only one electable party at this election
I've never woken up a single day of my life the NHS wasn't falling apart - is it that much worse than 15 years ago? 20 years ago? I do understand the NHS is the one issue that might kill you so I take it seriously - I also have experience that if possible the NHS won't treat you unless they absolutely have to. I was hounded out of a surgery once by the receptionist for wanting to sign up and then have a blood test. It's creaking - I don't know what the answer is but it certainly wasn't Corbyn's labour.
I did talk to my wife's uncle who spent his entire working life in the pharmaceutical industry and all he said was Corbyn was certifiably insane trying to nationalise medicines - I don't think anything was going to be safe under Corbyn's Labour, the waste would have been crazy |

12.13.19 | “I think Corbyn would have been as ruthless as circumstances allowed”
In a way doesn’t every politician fight for what they believe in as much as they can? So to suggest he shows “traits of a dictator” as you say Doof is a bit of a stretch, as dictators are dictators for doing as they please to the point of preventing the democratic process, so if once Labour decides on a new leader if Corbyn went against his word and didn’t step down, that for example would be dictator-esque but simply showing a strong conviction for something isn’t by itself enough to be dictator like. |

Media. The majority read BS tabloid press. The majority of people are headline hunters than never look into a story (and barely read it never mind fact check) They the type who listen to a song on the radio but never listen an album. They watch reality TV but have never watched any classics you mention. THOSE type of people are easily swayed. They have been out for Corbyn for years because he represents danger to the order and the establishment that has been in place in this country for as long as Ive been alive. Its what they always do. When he fucked up or when they could manufacture a story (some legit, hes made plenty of mistaked) they did and you wouldnt here the end of it. Boris would be openly racist and it would be gone in a day. These people think BBC news is the bible and the truth. Labour got hammered for Dianne abbot drinking gin on a train for fucks sake. The whole thing is so intertwined with the media. Thats nothing new but seeing that exact point your making, Boris NOT called out for being an utter cunt while hammering Labour and Corbyn sometimes for MUCH less (sitting on the floor of a train cos it was full!!!??) Its fucking sickening and it would be sickening either way they did it under this illusion of Fair practice and democracy we live in. |

He has tried to excuse some terrorism as being born from our own action abroad. He isnt 'Pro' any terrorism
2 completely different things. |
AdoreSwancore
12.13.19 | Anyway I guess what’s done is done, now trying to argue whether or not Corbyn would have made a good leader is ultimately pointless, instead Boris and the Tories have to instead try and prove the doubters (such as myself) wrong, which I hope they do as in this case I want to be wrong |
DoofDoof
12.13.19 | Well, there's a certain way most politicians behave I guess - an understanding that you may cross paths with someone again, or you may have to compromise, a playing of the game of politics (which most people breath a sigh of relief they're not part of) etc etc
Corbyn is a less typical politician really - and I think he'd want to be in a position he could get even less like that. As good as that might sound - it's not good. |

12.13.19 | Bunch of old farts thinking they have the slightest smidgen of a clue about how the economy is going like I expected since it's all over social media. You can bring up Corbyn's sheet of terrorist sympathising claims which most have been disputed by several other pieces of media that aren't right-wing influenced smear campaigns, his talks were to establish peace deals and rubbing shoulders with shit like that is part of politics, there was a Tory member at a Senn Fein funeral. Let's not forget that Boris supported arms-deal sales to Saudi Arabia. You also conveniently missed the part about an actual active member of the IRA being a Tory official and she spoke on the record about supporting the shooting of British soldiers. Look up Maria Gatland, formerly Maria McGuire who resigned when her publications describing her involvement were unearthed. We were shafted on all fronts but if you can honestly say with your right hand to God that the country is better with diet Donald Trump and the Tories obliteration of the NHS, slowly being picked away and thousands living in poverty having to scrape their way through food banks to support themselves just because they're working class, you're deluded as fuck and the age is really setting in to senile proportions. |
DoofDoof
12.13.19 | I've no particular affinity with either of the major parties (or any party really, I guess slightly more lib Dem as I'm in a Lib Dem area and generally regard myself as pro Europe and liberal in many regards, though not in defence spending, etc) - so that helps things not get too heated too maybe?
I was very anti Corbyn but I'm not someone who's saying they could never vote Labour (or Tory) - though I never have so far. |
DoofDoof
12.13.19 | TheWhiteWolf9981 - Corbyn has been voting soft against terrorist measures etc the last decade, and he personally wants rid of the nuclear deterrent - it's not all stuff from the ancient annals hitting him

He was unelectable. It's over. |

12.13.19 | Poverty gap does need addressing, unless you're 'rich' then from my experience of seeing how things are you're only two or three knocks away from being in a bit of trouble with little safety net.
The great minds of our age need to get on figuring it out - those great minds weren't to be found in this Labour cabinet. That's the tragedy about it.
The rich already pay A LOT of tax (they also pay an even more massively larger slice of charity donations than everyone else in the country of course too, they aren't all evil) - just taxing everyone to death wasn't the right idea. The country (apologies to Jeremy) needs to be attractive for investment.
I guess when I hear Amazon or whoever getting out of paying tax that's when you start thinking you might be getting closer to something. I think tax payers already pay their tax, it's pretty high. |

The phrase I repeated earlier - namely ‘the NHS has ALWAYS been in crisis’ features early
The NHS was also equally in trouble on the early 90s as i vaguely recalled:
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-32057948
This article argues the case the NHS is badly run not badly funded (compared to other nations) - we just have a romantic notion of the NHS. As a share of GDP we spend almost identically to the best performing healthcare nation in the world (Canada) so just throwing more money at it might not be the answer or only issue to address with the NHS.
https://qz.com/1201096/by-deifying-the-nhs-the-uk-will-never-fix-its-broken-health-care-system/
Anyway I’d like to have an option to vote for a party that properly supports the NHS but this Labour Party were impossible to vote for, peace out ✌️ |

From your BBC article which counteracts against your 2014 article
'The report noted much of the deterioration has happened in the second-half of the Parliament with many measures of performance being maintained in the first few years.' So pointless pulling up a 2014 article.
Also The BBC are also a Tory propaganda machine. They constantly brush over Tory failings as 'Ohhhhh it was worse once' 'It would be worse with Labour'
That last one...dear me. Your fucking endless attempt to prove , and fail, that its the NHS which isnt perfect. Not the tories. Is fucking embarrassing. No one is saying the NHS is a perfect model but its run down by underfunding and that underfunding and cuts to Nurses that came from THIS GOVERNMENT and this governments Austerity plan because thats what they do!. Thats what they have always done. Theyre the fucking Conservatve party!
|
Deez
12.14.19 | That underfunding means Nurses and Doctors ( I had one nurse see me last year who was on her 14th straight 15 hour day!! How can you work like that?) have to work continiously meaning standards inevitably drop. People wanting to be Nurses and Doctors have drop as the The pay is terrible and hasnt been raised in years. Despite them parading a bus around teh country saying '350 MILLION A YEAR TO THE NHS IF WE LEAVE THE EU' Then admitting that was a lie!
The NHS is one of the greatest things to ever happen to this county. (Again...*takes a breath*) You speak to ANYONE working in that sector rather than pulling a random piece off the net you JUST found and going 'LOOK LOOK I WAS RIGHT BECAUSE THIS GUY SAYS SIMILAR' What the fuck does that matter?? Your desperation to be right when you are wrong. You in a nutshell. The fact is we have a FREE health system that people fought for that has saved lives which cannot possibly be counted on a fucking graph when you think of simple medicines you get for free, Old, sick people get for free. Emergency call outs. Hostpital treatment. NOW your argument is that free ambulance takes too long? The wait to get a bed is too long? YEAH GUESS WHY!!!!??? Didn't you say your Dad was in remmission? Would you have the 20 plus grand lying about to have him in and out of Hostpital if it wasnt free? And the whole point is if they were going to try and fix the NHS is any way they would have already started it in the NINE YEARS theyve been in power. They havent because they dont want it fixed because they do not care about anyone lower than middle class that is the Conservative party. They have the money to go private thats why they couldnt tell you the price of milk/bread etc when interviewed. They are out of touch with the working class but fair fucks to them theyve managed to convince places they havent sent any money to for year to vote for them.
I saw a clip yesterday of Scunthorpe and people looking around and saying 'I dont know what happened to th place we needed a change' so voted Tory hahah We dont know what happened? The torys fucking happened. But theyve hoodwinked people into believed its the EU not them. Its this phenomena

12.14.19 | Deez with all due respect mate you have been travelling for nigh on a decade and live in the Highlands. Your view is going to be just as valid but a tad different.'
Youve got that the wrong way around. My family live on council estates and always have done. When Im back in England for 4 months i live in a ROUGH area. My opinion isnt based on what I receive in Scotland. My prescriptions are free! Ive got Dolphins inf ront of my work. Alls good for me. For now. Thats a Tory mindset. But even the Doctors up there are starting to feel it as is my Local Hostpital (the only one for about 120 miles!!) My doc said theyve had their budget for teh whole of northwest Scotland cut more than half
I should have the view Doof has. I dont because the rest county is struggling and I can quite clealy see that. I also lived through the end of Thatcher and of course through that con Man Blair. Tell me what policies the Torys have now that are different from their past? None. Just those magic words 'GET BREXIT DONE'. And for all Labour and Corbyns failings and this 'Borrowing money' none sense the main source of this money would come from Taxing big business' that pay no tax and have off shore havens. Oh and Taxing people on 80 grand plus and extrra 20 a month the scoundrel! That alone would be enough to drastically improve the NHS and probably a good go at the Rail system too and is one of the main reasons the media went for him. Cant be looking at getting cash of multi corps oh no.... |

Their population is 20 mill lower....as if every counties variables are the same(??) and its simply money spent right now? What hours do they work? Number of professionals? Average patients per week/year, outside factors? Like austerity effecting cost to living , cost to getting to work etc etc etc etc etc I really need to answer that for you? amazing. Im off to watch the footy.

I’ve always said I’m 100% anti Corbyn and anti momentum
Just saying ‘pour more money into the ol’ gal’ isn’t the only issue regarding the NHS.
in terms of value for money the NHS isn’t serving its citizens as well as a lot of other nations - why? That’s the issue to address. Canada was just one example - check the table, we spend the going rate. We’re underperforming - whether you look at spend per person or GDP. |

Deez
12.14.19 | Exactly. Where is there any reason to think otherwise?? Theyve took the piss for the last fucking nine years what makes you think its going to change??? Absolute mad thinking. What will happen is the run down places will continue to be run down and wont receive any help. My city was written off by Thatchers government as not worth funding. Nice huh? There will be no new hospitals or extra funding for the NHS and the rich will get richer and our assets sold more and more to foreign investors (sweet fucking irony) Trains will get worse. Prices up, See what happens with possible food shortages after No deal brexit since we get a bit of snow and teh county comes to a halt imagine a week with no bread or some shit (maybe doomsday scenario that though)
And they will sit in the house of commons and shout at each other in their medievil 'Yayyyys' and 'Nayyyyyys' As the poor continue to become poorer and die at record rates until the riots start. And that goes for all of them but Labours fully costed manifesto was at least going to TRY and change that. The torys wont because it doesnt serve THEM. Thats my prediction. Based on what Ive already seen in practice from multiple Tory governments.I would be DELIGHTED to be proven wrong.

12.14.19 | Ive always been told vote labour its what we do but Ive never subscribed to that. I did that when I was 18 and it turned out to be that Lizard Blair. I never voted since. I dont want to sign up to the electoral roll again and suddenly be hit with debt from 15 years ago. But where I live in Scotland is SNP and in England labour. SO realistically my vote would only matter (or feel as if it mattered) if the whole system changed which I would be much more in favour of. If it was somehow tallied online and it was counted as per vote instead of per seat and area etc etc because again the number of people who actually voted for Labour an dCons are actually much much closer than the landslide and biggest hammering in 20 years would lead you to believe (only 4,000 difference).

Demon of the Fall
12.14.19 | There does seem to be a lack of respect these days, the outraged Corbyn worshiping youth take to social media and spew vomit all over the place, no discussion necessary apparently. I’ve seen comments suggesting Tories are scum just for thinking differently to them, essentially. Maybe they’ve been mislead, maybe not... but let’s have a little respect for one another. This phenomenon is so absurdly strange to me, aren’t these kids (I’m calling them kids, they sure act like it) supposed to be accepting of others? It’s at complete odds with their ethos and leaves a bad taste in the mouth tbh. |
Demon of the Fall
12.14.19 | Why can’t people accept that not everyone thinks the same way? The answer isn’t to throw around insults and pretend like your superior somehow. Supercoolguy64
12.14.19 | i think it's just a reaction towards the similar attitudes older people give to the younger, like how many teachers and coworkers do you know that gives that condescending, "im-only-talking-to-you-because-i-have-to" vibe when interacting with younger people, and how many of them specifically are right wing?
you're not wrong with leftist youth acting like pricks online, but in there/my defense i've met plenty of right-winged boomers who treated me and others my age like complete idiots. it's jsut that these boomers tend to act this way in real life moreso than on the internet. |

12.14.19 | "Christ. Crimes off the charts at the minute them Albanian/Somalian/Pakistani gangs are a nightmare"
Obviously I don't live in the UK, but I've done quite a bit of research on the topic of organized crime and I got a mate whose dad grew up in Southwark and there's plenty of dirt going on in some local British communities as well. The thing is that for instance Somali's are mostly indicted for more petty crimes which of course is a bigger nuisance to the average guy in the street. When my mate's dad grew up he knew of plenty of businesses that were up to their neck in debts (sometimes even forced debts) to the shadiest of shady people, who were all white British. Stuff like that is still going on in plenty of places (Liverpool, Nottingham, Essex, Glasgow...etc...)
So yeah, visible crime committed by immigrant populations are definitely a major nuisance that needs to be dealt with. On the other hand, less visible organized crime may not have that much of an effect on a regular joe, but is a literal nightmare for those who do get affected - and this is something that occurs in several "ethnic" communities, but plenty of it is also occurring in "indigenous" communities |

He’ll take you as he finds you.
But he’ll say ‘oh I did a job for the paki down the street’ - truth is he probably has done ten favours for her, cleared her gutter, etc etc, has no problem with her, just old school
Then the gypsies came down the street and ripped off all the old folk / he talks to the gypos , he talks to the plod, he talks and helps the old folk. He gets all the perspectives at play.
Most people will say he’s a bit racist for how he talks/votes - but he’ll help all the people in the community more than 99% of the people in the UK. He voted Brexit etc

12.14.19 | The fact he talked to the same gypsies who ripped off his own parents and didn’t lose his temper speaks volumes - people on the internet sound like they want to lynch you for a difference of opinion
Proper bloke, no shit, got it sorted |
zakalwe
12.14.19 | On that whole racism thing I honestly don’t think I’ve ever met anyone who is genuinely racist other than my nan.
People call out people for being racist for such nonsense nowadays. I’m only 40 and I can remember a time when you would see real groups of neo-nazi skinheads walking around. Fucking awful.
What would today’s ‘everyone is racist’ mob think of that? |
DoofDoof
12.14.19 | They’d be at a loss to how such bullshit could exist - but it did |
zakalwe
12.14.19 | I am of the opinion that on a whole, as a majority we as people are actually making some progress but the minority are shouting twice as loud and an even smaller minority are getting all the attention.
We’ve been on this planet fuck knows how many years and the progress has been so unbelievably slow and yet people think it can all just change overnight. |
DoofDoof
12.14.19 | My gran hated the Japs but they tortured and killed half of my grandfather’s friends - they were fucking beyond the pale in WW2
She’d never forgive them |
DoofDoof
12.14.19 | ‘people think it can all change overnight’
Yes, this is the most annoying thing - change is better at a realistic pace not ‘I have no patience want it now’ |
DoofDoof
12.14.19 | The wife was saying apparently there’s a lot of support for not teaching ‘war’ in schools as it is ‘negative’ and ‘distressing’
Eh, hmm, how about no lol |
zakalwe
12.14.19 | Bless her. You’re never going to be able to re-wire the brain to simply forgive and forget certain things that some people will never be able to imagine let alone actually experience and live through. |

12.14.19 | She’s gone now, that was the pallbearer funeral this year - she wouldn’t scream at you for going to Japan or eating sushi or whatever
She just personally would avoid anything like that out of respect for her husband and just the knowledge of how they behaved in WW2 - she didn’t actively wish harm on them or anything like that, she’d just got her opinion on them
She never held quite the same disdain for the German people but that’s her experience. She’d be labelled racist - but with empathy and context you’d think she was certifiably mad not to hold those personal views |

12.15.19 | Yo this thread is really long, did sinternet talk about the people voting against their own interests and how everyone should riot yet? |
DoofDoof
12.15.19 | At least three times yes |
DoofDoof
12.15.19 | Fair play to Corbyn for taking the time to apologise and admit culpability for balls’ing the party/campaign up to the degree traditional labour voters had to vote Tory for the first time
Even if it came after heavy pressure from advisors it’s still what he needed to say. Some degree of respect earned - though he still didn’t say he was wrong explicitly. |
DoofDoof
12.15.19 | Dunno what this NHS spending commitment law the Tories are promising is but something to watch
For example, could you increase the legal commitment if there was more money (hypothetically) after Brexit? |
Trebor.
12.15.19 | United Ireland and Scottish independence here we come baby |
DoofDoof
12.15.19 | The Scots have definitely got some strong leadership if they go independent.
Would be weird visiting Scotland with a fistful of euros in 7 years time, it would be ‘going abroad’ |
zakalwe
12.15.19 | A United Ireland? Yeah good luck with that.
That’s another one that gets on me tits as well.
An independent nationalist Scotland- Yay 🌈 🍾
United Ireland - Terrific 🎉
The UKs withdrawal from the EU - Nazi racist scummer 💩 |
DoofDoof
12.15.19 | The only thing with Scottish independence if they then join the EU is imagine the pound performs really well against the Euro (hypothetical) and with global warming it becomes an attractive holiday location for the english - imagine English tourists heading over there and it costing considerably less for them
That would rankle the Scots no end - that’s the nightmare scenario for Scotland |
Sinternet
12.15.19 | except in those cases the 'nationalist' movement is not run by racists or dogwhistling to them and comes from a real place of self-determination and not 'i don't like the immigrants coming over' |

12.15.19 | The British empire?
There’s no British empire.
The British isles splitting up...I think it’s a shame but I also voted to remain in Europe.
Financially it’ll probably benefit England but that’s not the only reason to have these alliances - it seems the way things are going though |
zakalwe
12.15.19 | Too much oil up in Scotland |
DoofDoof
12.15.19 | Would be interesting after the UK as a whole voted to make themselves worse off with Brexit (at least it seems likely in the short term) then Scotland do what most experts say is the same thing (they’d be poorer in the short term at the very least) and leave the UK to join the EU (if they qualify, that deficit is large)
Ideology ahead of pragmatism - interesting times, willing to risk having less money for notions of ‘identity’ and ‘control’
Not saying it’s wrong just a new prevailing outlook |
Egarran
12.15.19 | > I honestly don’t think I’ve ever met anyone who is genuinely racist
Damn, you must have high standards for racism.
"In Johnson’s 2004 novel Seventy-Two Virgins: A Comedy of Errors there are accusations that oligarchs“of Jewish origin” run the media and are able to fiddle a vote; mixed race people called “half-caste”; travellers described as “pikeys”; someone is “stupid because he is a coon” and a traffic warden working in Westminster as a “hunter-gatherer” because he is an African immigrant, as well as the use of the “n” word."
Inb4 "Oh but that's not genuine."
Well, you could fool me and probably a lot of racist voters. |
zakalwe
12.15.19 | If those characters progress through the story and ‘unite’ and the book itself was written by a BAME or woman it’d be seen as ‘revolutionary’ |
InFlamesWeThrash666
12.15.19 | "I honestly don’t think I’ve ever met anyone who is genuinely racist"
Do you live in a cave or something |
Egarran
12.15.19 | Somehow I suspect zak can't be swayed. These days, changing your opinion is seen as personal defeat.
See: Brexit. |
zakalwe
12.15.19 | Like I’ve said in comparison to my nan who is a genuine racist, as in wants absolutely nothing to do with black people. Won’t have them near her in the hospital and such then yeah I don’t think there’s anyone other than her. She’s 93 years old and brutal with some strange values, certainly not someone I adhere to be like. |
GhandhiLion
12.15.19 | Do you not realise that racism is usually implicit?
|
DoofDoof
12.15.19 | Most people are a bundle of contradictions and surely everyone has some degree of unconscious bias concerning race - I’m more with Zak’s definition for someone being Mr A. Racist |
GhandhiLion
12.15.19 | Yes, everyone has some degree of racist bias and it should be reduced. But the explicit side of racism doesn't begin with skinheads and end with Hitler. |
GhandhiLion
12.15.19 | My nan doesn't hate anyone, but she once said that staring at the characteristics of black people lead her to realise that we did definitely "evolve from monkeys". |
DoofDoof
12.15.19 | Well the examples I gave of my gran who did hold private beliefs that would be classed racist but imo totally justified and understandable in her circumstance - the Japanese ruined her husband’s life. The way they treated POWs in WW2 was not good etc
The father in law definitely holds racist beliefs to some degree and uses racist language - but he’d do more for anyone he met than I would, or indeed most people would. He likes everyone give or take how they respond to him, so open minded socially. He does favours for anyone - as I said he’ll still leave scrap metal out for the gypsies despite the cunts going through his neighbourhood ripping off all the pensioners.
So things aren’t cut and dry when you start looking at individual cases instead of generic ‘groups’ |
GhandhiLion
12.15.19 | She thought that was a beautiful thing, you might call it "old school".
|
DoofDoof
12.15.19 | That’s just a lack of experience in her daily life and education really
Obviously should be a thing of the past in 2020 but it’s not a red flag that she’s an evil racist |
GhandhiLion
12.15.19 | Comparing blacks to apes sounds pretty oldschool to me. |
GhandhiLion
12.15.19 | Well that's just it. You think intent is the only thing that matters. Most people are not aware of their racism. |
Egarran
12.15.19 | Even Jonathan Pie is on the 'we should have been nicer and more understanding' team now: https://youtu.be/G0nIhL4v6bY
And I agree that they should all be a team and work together, but in reality it's hard to just smile and nod - in the hope that this may appease angry ignorants. |
DoofDoof
12.15.19 | I think there’s a difference to someone having done something racist and ‘being a racist’ I guess
To be classed a racist it has to be a regular and fundamental characteristic and history of behaviour. I’m not saying this is ‘good racism’ at all - just saying these people aren’t in the same category as what I consider the truly evil and destructive racists
To be an ‘evil racist’ you actually have intent to cause distress and harm is my distinction, like a neo nazi thug or yes, a racist politician spreading propaganda etc |
DoofDoof
12.15.19 | The worst racist thing I’ve done in the last five years is there’s a bloke who runs the fantasy football at work called David Wong but I’d never met him but I presumed he was this bloke who looked about forty five (I’d heard he was middle aged) and had oriental looks. There was no one else I’d noticed on the floor of about 200 people who had those two characteristics so I’d always presumed that was David Wong.
Someone comes up to me and says ‘you do the fantasy football, where does David Wong sit?’ so I sent him to where the bloke I thought was David Wong sits...of course that wasn’t David Wong. The bloke comes up and says ‘that isn’t David Wong’ and looked at me like I was a total piece of shit.
I cringed for about an hour. It was bad but it was really just a bit of bias leading to an assumption and general laziness. Not my best moment ever but shit happens, you just try and not let that happen again lol |
Deez
12.15.19 | hahahhahahahahaha |
DoofDoof
12.15.19 | Yeah most of the ‘bad’ things I’ve done in my life are down to stupidity, ignorance, laziness or a combo of the three
So I think that’s why I’m all for giving people a second chance for such foibles unless the intent is proven to have been sinister |
GhandhiLion
12.15.19 | There is nothing racist about what you did in that example. It was just a dumb hasty response. You should have just said you don't know who he is. |
