My Favorite Bands (i Win)

This list would be generic if it wasn't made by Iluvatar, but considering the user it is attached to it is automatically forward-thinking and progressive. I'm going to be blunt and say I really don't care if you don't like these bands or want to recommend me something. Believe me, if it would ever come close to making this list I have 99.999-100% heard it already.
1The Mars Volta
Frances the Mute

I am including albums as well so I can add deions. The Mars Volta hold a unique place in my heart. They were the first rock band I ever truly adopted as my own, being a completely random discovery I saw on some forgotten messageboard (it may have been newgrounds). De-Loused had just come out, so I went and bought it and I was stunned. While I listened to them constantly, it wasnt until Frances the Mute came out that I got to listen to the first record that ever blew my mind that I heard upon release. Ever since, I have been in love with this band.
2King Crimson
Lizard

Encapsulating my time as a kid listening to my dads music, King Crimson was always the band I wanted to listen to as it featured the least amount of cheeseyness my dad was so fond of. As my taste in music developed, my appreciation for everything this band did and was about deepened, resulting in the mixture of awe, excitement, and curiosity I get when listening to them to this day. I may listen to other bands here more, and I may "enjoy" them more, but King Crimson is such an important band that I cannot rank them any lower.
3Coheed and Cambria
Second Stage Turbine Blade

Pure unadulterated lovefest here. Getting into them with the release of In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth: 3, I am always surprised I find more sentimental value in SSTB, but that might be due to the fact I can't imagine a more perfect rock album. I was obsessed with them intensely for 4 months, so much so that I had listened to each album over 300 times in that period.
4System of a Down
System of a Down

I remember hearing Spiders and freaking out, I remember hearing Chop Suey and freaking out, I remember hearing Boom! and freaking out, I remember hearing BYOB and freaking out, and I remember at the end of my first listen of "Hypnotize" shuddering from the chillingness of Soldier Side. In my opinion the best radio rock band of our generation, System of a Down are immensely quirky (as weird as any indie band) without sacrificing songwriting tightness. They have so many incredible songs that I can forgive the occasional missteps.
5mewithoutYou
Brother, Sister

The only reason I need are these lyrics: When dreams of rings of flowers fade and blur Giving way to that familiar ill come over and part your soft white curtains Where I'm waiting for you still If you'd unlatch the window, If you'd let me lay there on your floor If you'd give me another chance, If you'd forget the pain I caused before No use in saying how I'm sorry So I'm trying not to speak I'll sing in silence, lay beside you With my face there on your cheek My stomach swears there's comfort there In the warmth of the blankets on your bed My stomach's always been a liar- I'll believe it's lies again.
6Taking Back Sunday
Tell All Your Friends

I can't fathom people hating this band if they just understand its total nostalgic goodness. Not in the "oh i liked them back in the day lol", I mean total reflective nostalgia for the days when you were in High School. Im only two years out, but even now I get such a huge rush of joy from listening to anything these guys put out. The best modern pop punk band, and the best sing-along-band of all time.
7Rush
2112

2112 is put just in reference to the song. Rush is the best band ever period.
8Glassjaw
Worship and Tribute

I don't feel like writing anymore deions
9matchbox twenty
Mad Season

Probably because I don't care to explain to you guys
10Say Anything
In Defense of the Genre

However Say Anything is here because this album was heard on the cusp of the longest relationship of my life and is almost a perfect recording of all the feelings I went through.
