Top 5 German Power Metal Albums

Germany has produced the best power metal of all the European scenes, with the founding fathers Helloween followed by Blind Guardian, Gamma Ray, Avantasia, Iron Savior, Edguy and many others. Here are my favourite 5 albums to have come from German power metal.
1Gamma Ray
Land of the Free

A classic of the genre, this album eclipses all others with Kai Hansen's vocals at the finest and Gamma Ray's creative talents flourishing at the finest. Highlights include Rebellion In Dreamland (arguably the best song in the genre), Land Of The Free & Abyss Of The Void.
2Blind Guardian
Imaginations from the Other Side

Blind Guardian's fifth album sees them at their best, with no song failing to astound - there is a reason why their US tour gigs will be playing the entire album live. The Script For My Requiem & Bright Eyes are the pick of the bunch.
3Blind Guardian
Nightfall in Middle-Earth

The very best concept album imagined, Blind Guardian's sixth album breathes life and energy into Tolkien's classic The Silmarillion like never before. Never again will power metal hear the likes of Into The Storm or Mirror Mirror.
4Avantasia
The Metal Opera

A stunning debut by Tobias Sammet's "supergroup", The Metal Opera is an outstanding concept album, even if the story feels a bit suspect at times. High points include Farewell, Avantasia & Sign Of The Cross.
5Helloween
Keeper of the Seven Keys Part II

The classic blueprint for the entire genre, Keepers II features the youthful Michael Kiske at his most outstanding. Few albums can match its brilliance, particularly with songs such as Eagle Fly Free, Dr Stein, Keeper Of The Seven Keys & possibly the finest song in the genre, I Want Out.
