Torontonian
10.05.14 | aight except for the excessive amount of DT/Pt/Opeth albums. its very obvious to me that a bunch of fanboys voted some of these absurdities. the fact that 9 is above some like 10,12,13,14,15 and etc makes me sick. |
Torontonian
10.05.14 | Your guy's opinions? |
Onirium
10.05.14 | Well top 10 is pretty obvious. Also, I don't see how PT/SW and Storm Corrosion are "travesties" on here,
they perfectly deserve their place imo, although I agree some like Fear of a Blank Planet are ranked way too
high. The question is more "why the fuck is there a Between the Buried and Me album on this list?" but yeah.
I think I actually participated to this poll, don't remember what were my picks though |
ChoccyPhilly
10.05.14 | lol 9. Absurd |
Torontonian
10.05.14 | ^same. I probs votes mostly for 70's classics surely.
and ik you like 9 alot and so do i but it has no place in the top 10 and especially being ahead of likes such as
red,fragile,Animals,Moving Pictures,Relayer etc. imo at least |
motopitchman
10.05.14 | Well there are several Floyd, King Crimson, Rush, Opeth, and Tool albums all throughout the list, they're all popular and they're all great, nothing wrong with that Toron |
motopitchman
10.05.14 | Porcupine Tree as well. |
Onirium
10.05.14 | Well yeah 9 is a fucking epic album, but I sure agree it doesn't belong in the top 10 |
Torontonian
10.05.14 | Opeth is gr8 don't get me wrong, but the fact that there are more opeth albums than King Crimson/etc is ridiculous.
Total Opeth=4
Total KC= 3
thats just fucked up if you ask me. |
motopitchman
10.05.14 | Well I think it's safe to say that the best of King Crimson is better than the best of Opeth, but Opeth was more consistently great nonetheless. King Crimson's best takes up about 4 albums while Opeth's best is like 5-6-7 of their albums. |
motopitchman
10.05.14 | BTW isn't there 4 for KC? ITCOTKC, Lizard, in aspic, and Red |
motopitchman
10.05.14 | Actually there's 5, Discipline is there as well. |
motopitchman
10.05.14 | Yea just double checked. There are 5 KC and 4 Opeth. |
Torontonian
10.05.14 | ^oh shit, forgot to count ITC. My bad. |
motopitchman
10.05.14 | In the Court of The Crimson King, Red, Lizard, In Aspic, Discipline
Damnation, Still Life, Ghost Reveries, Blackwater Park |
Phlegm
10.05.14 | omg is there seriously a prog magazine LOL |
motopitchman
10.05.14 | No worries mate, off to the gym, have a nice day :) |
SgtPepper
10.05.14 | omg, how could they leave out muse? smh |
Torontonian
10.05.14 | @choccy it certainly is. and according to this list blackwater park> meddle, nursery cryme, aqualung, discipline,
moonmadness, permanent waves etc. the order is not too good imo. |
Tunaboy45
10.05.14 | Yeah I read this. All these Opeth and Porcupine Tree inclusions are going to send elitists over the edge. Aqualung should probably be higher. |
Torontonian
10.05.14 | "All these Opeth and Porcupine Tree inclusions are going to send elitists over the edge"
They should send any sensible prog fan over the edge tbh. Pt and Opeth are gr8 and i love them but the fact that they
have more inclusions as many many prog gr8's is disgusting. and agree i'd have aqualung in top 20-25 for sure |
Tunaboy45
10.05.14 | I agree with what you're saying for sure. The fact that 9 is higher than Animals is ridiculous. It's great but it's not Animals. |
Torontonian
10.05.14 | ^i agree wholeheartedly |
pedro70512
10.05.14 | Seeing Crack the Skye makes me happy. Order of the list is kinda bogus so I won't go into that. |
Torontonian
10.05.14 | ^same pedro. I think that was a gr8 inclusion tbh. |
Tunaboy45
10.05.14 | Best Mastodon album for me. |
Winesburgohio
10.05.14 | surprised to see Tago Mago so low, what a gem! |
Torontonian
10.05.14 | ya order isn't too good. |
Friday13th
10.05.14 | Yeah, when I bought this issue and saw #9 and lol'd all the way home. I was surprised to not see any Renaissance, Magma, RPI, etc. Seriously though, it's a pretty good list for being fan polled. As they pointed out on 17's info, it's not half as ridiculous as Rolling Stones' top prog albums list. |
Tunaboy45
10.05.14 | wasn't metropolis pt2 top of that one or something like that? |
SharkTooth
10.05.14 | 1.The site refers to 99 as 'Focus 2'
2.Focus 3 should be on this list as well |
Friday13th
10.05.14 | @Tunaboy45 yup it's 17 here |
Torontonian
10.05.14 | renaissance is needed agree. and focus 3 is by far my fave focus so ya. I don't think they included live albums though. |
ArsMoriendi
10.05.14 | Yay Can's Tago Mago made it!
Also OK Computer and Sgt. Pepper's aren't prog lol. |
Tunaboy45
10.05.14 | It isn't but it opened the doors for modern progressive acts. It made abstract and strange music acceptable again. (Referring to OK Computer. Fuck Sgt Pepper) |
Torontonian
10.05.14 | ^Sgt pepper isn't but OK is kinda. Neither is atom heart mother. Lists also needs hounds of love and felona e sorona if you ask me and less between the buried and me. |
Friday13th
10.06.14 | lol Sgt Peppers actually opened the doors for all prog and Radiohead just made it mainstream again. Wooptidoo. "A Day in the Life" is arguably the first prog song. Not saying that warrants its place on the list because all in all it's a psych-pop album. Neither are prog but lol at OK Computer being more important to prog. Just admit it now, you guys voted Raven into the top 10 haha |
Torontonian
10.06.14 | @friday i personally wouldn't consider it prog tbh. Thats just my personal opinion. If you wanna get anal/highly-technical about what's prog and whats not go right ahead. |
beefshoes
10.06.14 | 9 makes me not take this site seriously at all -_-
What a joke. |
ScuroFantasma
10.06.14 | pretty good list tbh, quite predictable but still. Ignoring the ranking there's some good stuff on here |
ChoccyPhilly
10.06.14 | whoa what? OKC made strange music acceptable again? Kid A had a bigger effect than OKC did if we're going down that route |
Tunaboy45
10.06.14 | Kid A certainly broke down more boundaries. |
ChoccyPhilly
10.06.14 | But Kid A got people interested in stranger types of electronic music. OKC wasn't that out of the ordinary and hardly as shocking as the opening notes of Everything in Its Right Place was. just saying, it had a far bigger impact |
Torontonian
10.06.14 | @beefshoes This isn't my opinion, it was a poll. List title explains. |
Tunaboy45
10.06.14 | Idioteque still terrifies me, and I wouldn't want it any other way. |
TheCrocodile
10.06.14 | Red out of the top 10 makes me wanna vomit. |
Torontonian
10.06.14 | ^i would make it one on mine tbh. |
Friday13th
10.06.14 | Just messin' with you guys. I'm not an authority on proto-prog or Radiohead, though I would like to think I am. Sgt. Peppers really was a major inspiration for everyone from Robert Fripp to Peter Gabriel, though. Just check some interviews on youtube for like 5 min and you'll hear it come up.
As for Radiohead, I really like OK Computer though it took me a while to even realize its similarities with prog. Ugh and here we go again with Kid A. OK Computer came first obv and was a bigger hit so I think what Tunaboy said about it is fine. I don't see how Kid A is any more shocking than stuff like Homogenic by Bjork but I guess I will never understand that style they were going for. I mean if we're talking shocking in the mainstream..."Tomorrow Never Knows"? |
Torontonian
10.06.14 | ^ya you're def right. I love the beatles btw i just never had considered them prog but more psych. Glad that
were friends again. |
Friday13th
10.06.14 | haha always friends with fellow proggers. One thing I will add after reading the mag again is there's a healthy dose of Gentle Giant :D |
wwba
10.06.14 | De Loused should be higher |
Torontonian
10.06.14 | @Friday very true man, 97 also made me very happy
@wwba shouldn't be on list imo. Amputechre is ultimate volta album. I'd be ok with that one on here. |
Artuma
10.06.14 | "@wwba shouldn't be on list imo. Amputechre is ultimate volta album. I'd be ok with that one on here."
he's a goddamn troll |
Friday13th
10.06.14 | @Torontonian yeah Voyage of the Acolyte is amazing. Well the editor on prog mag did say they could have chosen any of the first four or five The Mars Volta albums. Most would pick De-loused just for the freshness factor, and I agree. I think it's at a good position. |
Jethro42
10.06.14 | Interesting poll. Some bands are missing though - Brand X, Triumvirat, some Focus are absent, Strawbs, Eloy, Harmonium, Renaissance, Italian prog rock (RPI), Traffic and many more. And on the other hand, there are many albums that just dont do the big list. |
Onirium
10.06.14 | @Jethro well I would have expected at least Scheherazade and Other Stories to make the list. Triumvirat and
Harmonium are both classic bands I agree, but sadly I don't really think they're reknown enough to make a
top 100 list |
MrSirLordGentleman
10.06.14 | 77 should be 1, I'll say it until I die
and the lack of 666 is tremendous |
FadeToBlack
10.06.14 | wheres all the metal |
Jethro42
10.06.14 | @Onirium, You're right about Harmonium. After all, it remains an obscure formation in an UK point of view. |
OmairSh
10.07.14 | These lists always have issues |
