My 30 Favourite Albums Of All Time

Albums that didn't quite make the list: Frank Zappa - Apostrophe', Judas Priest - British Steel
30Ozzy Osbourne
Diary of a Madman

List needed some Randy Rhoads somewhere. Ozzy's best solo album.
29Mastodon
Crack the Skye

First Mastodon album I heard. Better than Leviathan in my opinion.
28Diamond Head
Lightning to the Nations

Guitar riffs. Guitar riffs. Guitar riffs. Oh did I say guitar riffs?
27Iron Maiden
The Number of the Beast

One of the best metal albums of all time. Gangland and Invaders keep this album from being high on my list.
26Guns N' Roses
Use Your Illusion II

This and Use Your Illusion I were amazing. They were the biggest band in the world in the early 90s in my opinion. Until Nirvana happened that is.
25Deep Purple
Machine Head

Love the bluesy feel of this album. One of the greatest rock albums of all time.
24Iron Maiden
Piece of Mind

I like this album a little bit more the The Number of the Beast because of the drumming. Clive Burr was awesome but Nicko is better in my opinion.
23Pantera
Vulgar Display of Power

Pantera's biggest album had to be on this list somewhere.
22Led Zeppelin
Led Zeppelin II

Just a great album.
21Black Sabbath
Paranoid

This is also another one of the greatest metal albums of all time. And it is their magnum opus in my opinion.
20Rush
Hemispheres

Rush's greatest prog rock effort.
19Led Zeppelin
Houses of the Holy

Another great album by Zeppelin.
18Slayer
Reign in Blood

They say quality is better than quantity, and this album epitomizes this. A short album but man does it pack a punch.
17Pink Floyd
The Dark Side of the Moon

One of the greatest albums of all time regardless of genre, and it definitely is a classic.
16Pantera
Cowboys From Hell

My favourite Pantera release. Phil at his peak vocally. Dime is the most metal person ever. RIP DIME
15Black Sabbath
Master of Reality

Black Sabbath's heaviest album of all time. The riff of Sweet Leaf has to be the heaviest thing ever recorded. And yes it is heavier than Funeralopolis or anything Electric Wizard has done.
14Metallica
Ride The Lightning

This used to be my favourite Metallica album. Creeping Death is my favourite Metallica song however
13Guns N' Roses
Appetite for Destruction

Easily the greatest rock debut of all time. Not a bad song on this album.
12Iron Maiden
Powerslave

Most people would say this is the best Iron Maiden album of all time. And a case could be made, however there is one album I like more than Powerslave.
This has my favourite song of all time: Rime of the Ancient Mariner
11Led Zeppelin
Led Zeppelin IV

Led Zeppelin's best album in my opinion. BETTER than Physical Graffiti. Love Bonzo's drumming on When the Levee Breaks.
10Pink Floyd
Wish You Were Here

A great album with a great story behind it. Syd walking in while they were recording is an awesome story. If you haven't seen it yet, check out The Story of Wish You Were Here dvd.
9Metallica
Master of Puppets

Often praised as the greatest metal album of all time. That definitely could be true.
8Alice in Chains
Dirt

The greatest grunge album of all time hands down.
7The Beatles
Magical Mystery Tour

Everyone always talks about Sgt Peppers or Revolver or the White Album. This album surpasses them all.
6Iron Maiden
Seventh Son of a Seventh Son

Iron Maiden is my favourite band of all time. This album is my favourite of their because it combines prog rock and metal perfectly.
5The Beatles
Abbey Road

THIS is their best album. I wish there was a follow up to this album. (Let it Be does not count)
4Pink Floyd
Animals

Prog rock at its finest.
3Black Sabbath
Sabbath Bloody Sabbath

In my opinion, this is the album where Ozzy was at his peak vocally. I love the strings on this album, and the more complex arrangements compared to their prior albums
2Dream Theater
Metropolis Pt. 2: Scenes from a Memory

Amazing musicianship, and it tells an awesome and entertaining story.
1Megadeth
Rust in Peace

This has everything you could possibly want with a metal album. Its heavy, it has great guitar playing, and its got great drumming. Rust in Peace > Peace Sells
