| Albums That Have Pleasantly Surprised Me
These are all relatively recent purchases I made (within the past
few weeks) that I did not expect too much out of at first, but
ended up being much better than I had expected. I also put the
rating I expected to give it, followed by what I ended up rating it
after hearing it. | 1 | | Death Leprosy
I went to FYE yesterday with 50 bucks. I had a lot in mind that I wanted to buy, but I couldnt find most
of what I wanted. I had my eye on Leprosy for a while, as I had seen it there every time I had been in
the store looking for Death albums. I kept putting it off, thinking it couldnt surpass their newer works.
I did get it yesterday, however, and what I got astounded me. This is incredible, and better than any
other album I've heard by the band other than Human. "Open Casket" is my favorite Death song now.
Predicted Rating-3.5/5 Actual Rating-4.5/5 (possibly 5/5) | 2 | | Judas Priest Painkiller
The other album I got yesterday. As I said, I had went to FYE with 50 bucks (and it was a 50 dollar bill
too) so I figured I should get something else. I had heard good things about Judas Priest from the site,
and I loved Death's cover of the title track, so I figured i'd give it a shot. I ended up buying it just to get
another album, but it ended up being more than worth it. Not a single bad song on here. 4.5/5 | 3 | | Moonsorrow V: Havitetty
I've been a fan of intensely long songs for a while, as well as epic viking metal themes. I had heard this
was a great album, but didn't expect it to be this awesome. It's a bit late, but this is my favorite album
of 2007 now. Even better than Colors. Predicted rating-4/5 Actual Rating-4.5/5 | 4 | | Blind Guardian Tales From the Twilight World
I had similar bias against this album that I did against Leprosy. I got it more to obtain more BG
material, and didnt expect it to match up to their newer material. Plus, I had seen a BG list listing their
albums from best to worst a few months ago (I think altmer made it) and it was placed last on it.
However, I would say this is among their best albums. I actually like it more than Somewhere Far
Beyond, slightly. Predicted Rating-3.5/5 Actual Rating-4/5 | 5 | | Rise Against The Sufferer and The Witness
I dove into this in an attempt to branch out from metal. I loved Prayer to the Refugee on GHIII, but had
hear no other material from the band. I knew they were of high acclaim here, so I gave the album a
shot. I've really been digging this band lately. I got this album a little over a week ago, and quickly
resulted in getting Revolutions Per Minute and Siren Song since. I can see myself getting into more
punk bands thanks to this album. Any suggestions? 4/5 | |
