My Favorite Moments In Music

These are some moments in music that make my jaw drop every time I rhear them.
1The Smashing Pumpkins
Siamese Dream

"Mayonaise"-The transition from the opening into the main riff. The way it goes from airy and serene into filthy distortion like that is incredible.
2Godspeed You! Black Emperor
F#A# (Infinity)

"East Hastings"-All of The Sad Mafioso movement but particularly when the drums are playing that steady 1-2 beat and the violins give that extra punch at the beginning of every bar.
3Porcupine Tree
Signify

"Idiot Prayer"-The transition from a hectic wave of distortion into the dancey bass riff and back again is so fucking great.
4Alice In Chains
Dirt

"Sickman"-The transition from the verses into the choruses with the unearthly howls and the time change gets me every time. Super underrated tune.
5Nick Drake
Pink Moon

"Place To Be"-When the vocals first come in, I don't even know what it is about them but it just works so well.
6My Bloody Valentine
Tremolo

"Honey Power"-the last minute, when all fades out and the slow strummed riff kicks in. But where it really starts is when the vocals begin to back it up-incredible.
7dredg
El Cielo

"Whoa Is Me"-during the second chorus, after the first time Gavin sings "when the water comes...." the saxophone deep in the background just lifts the whole melody into brand new territory.
8maudlin of the Well
Bath

"Girl With A Watering Can"-when the tempo speeds up about 5 minutes in, leading into that amazing section with the clean vocals and the blast beats.
9Agalloch
The Mantle

"The Hawthorne Passage"-the whole second half of the song. Absolutely insane, especially when the winds come in toward the end.
10Swans
Soundtracks For The Blind

"Hypogirl"-this isn't one of the better songs on the second disc, but that ungodly shriek at the beginning gets me off guard every time I hear it.
11The Devin Townsend Project
Ghost

"Heart Baby"-about 3 minutes where he starts harmonizing with Katrina.
12King Crimson
In The Court Of The Crimson King

"Epitaph"-when everything fades out for a short time and all of a sudden the flutes come back in with jarring force.
13Soundgarden
Badmotorfinger

"Slaves & Bulldozers"-the notes he hits during the chorus are infuckingsane.
14Pixies
Doolittle

"No. 13 Baby"-the ending. If you haven't heard it, go listen to it now. It's life- changing.
15Neurosis
Through Silver In Blood

"Rehumanize" the sudden shift from the chaotic wails and pounding percussion of the title track into this unholy soundscape is unsettling (and effective) as hell.
