The Bourne Legacy

Well, that was disappointing.
1Kasper Rosa
First Breath. First Blood.

The good things first: Jeremy Renner and Rachel Weisz both gave great performances with what they were given, Renner especially. A team-up movie with him and Damon would rule. Also, Legacy did have a few good action sequences, namely the Alaska drone scene and (most of all) the part where Renner kills the fuck out of everyone in that house then burns it down.

Cult of Occult

First issue: who the hell thought this plot was a good idea? I mean, the great thing about the first 3 Bourne movies was that Bourne's motivation was far more personal in nature. He beat people up to figure out who he was and for revenge, but he was always conflicted about what he did. Renner's character is trying to get performance enhancers. The stakes here are never personal like they were with the Damon films.

What Once Was... Liber II

Also, where the hell are my Bourne fight scenes? Like I said, when Legacy had fight scenes (the house) it was really entertaining, but it has FAR too few of them. The worst offender here was the final sequence. The movie spent a good few minutes building up this new assassin, with the baddies saying that he was the best they'd ever trained and that his performance was incredible, but he and Renner never engage in a one-on-one fight. Instead, we get a decent but overlong motorcycle chase, but not one bit of payoff. I mean, come on... The guy just falls off his cycle? How anticlimactic is that?

Who You Are Is Not Enough

Finally, there was far too much dialogue. The great thing about the Damon trilogy was that there was really sparse dialogue, with Damon communicating his emotions through facial expressions and asskickery and the plot being revealed through intricate flashbacks. The first 2/3 of Legacy was too much Renner talking and not enough Renner beating the hell out of people. Again, Renner is a great actor who did well with what he was given, but still.
5Damascus
Of Whom I Always Think

In conclusion: Renner good, Weisz good. Tony Gilroy bad. Need Paul Greengrass and Matt Damon back. Need Damon/Renner ass-kicking movie.
