What should I be feeling here?
Here's some songs that sound happy, either because of a rmajor key or just an infectious melody, but their subject rmatter is actually nothing to smile about.
|1||The Gaslight Anthem|
The '59 Sound
An ode to a friend on their deathbed by way of an old school, poppy, punk rock tune. "Did you
hear the old Gospel choir when they came to carry you over? Did you hear your favorite song one
|2||House of Heroes|
Baby's a Red
A love story featuring an American soldier in a Communist country in World War Two who falls in
with a Communist woman while overseas. Its bouncy rhythm and tongue-in-cheek lyrics detract
from the real weight of the song, but it benefits it in surprising ways. A good laugh at a
sad story. "Hammer and sickle on my mind..."
Mistakes We Knew We Were Making
This must be one of the most joyful sounding songs about abortion; also, it must be one of the
most provocative. However, Mae is playing no jokes here. The music is in a lively major key and
has catchy sing-along moments but somehow manages to deal with a very serious topic. Parts of
this song are still very sad despite the gentle feel of the music. It takes no political stance on the
issue, but rather focuses on the emotions on both sides. "What can now be said,
oh, little one on the other side?..."
While We Were Hunting Rabbits
No, it may not sound all that happy, per se, but it does strike some sense of joy to the listener
due to its epic choral and orchestral passages. This slow and lyrically dismal song deals with the
downsises of overly Communistic governments. For such a dark topic, the music stands as a great
pop-rock anthem. "These years of cloak of dagger have left us disappeared..."
The Day That No One Needed to Know
Hopelessness is the main theme of this tune. Moneen makes a pop-rock skeleton for the song,
but the skin that covers is it much harder to swallow. "A hero won't come in time, a martyr won't
save our lives, he can't..."
|6||Motion City Soundtrack|
Her Words Destroyed My Planet
MCS opens their soul to a faceless ex-girlfriend who must have broken one of their hearts pretty
badly. "I'll stall before I start anything at all..."
|7||My Chemical Romance|
Known for their sometimes offensive use of dark humor, MCR creates a eulogy for a dying friend.
Yes, a eulogy... kind of. A eulogy that basically says that the world would be a better place without
this person. "If life ain't just a joke, then why are we laughing?..."
What is it that makes this song sad? It's mostly a typical story of a girl falling away from her man,
but this girl seems a bit insane. It may all be some sort of metaphor, but if the girl is really the
way that the song describes her, it's sad to see how far gone she is. "She thinks she missed the
train to Mars, she's out back counting stars..."
man, i just noticed all your lists have to do with sad shit. lol who's alt is this
Not all of them. My "rain" and "favorite albums" lists aren't sad at all. I try to be fairly diverse. If I came off as a depressing person, that was not my intention. Haha.
Good on you for 10
I mean 8, glitch in the Matrix
I'm very confused haha.
"Known for their sometimes offensive use of black humor"
I think you mean dark humor, lol
unless MCR targets the blacks
Black/dark humor, same thing. I mean, you can make it racist if you want :P lol
I'll change it.
black comedy is a thing
yeah I might be racist because i see black humor and think of racist jokes
It's all good. I think it can be called either, but to avoid further confusion I went ahead and chamged it. Thank$ :)
you are very welcome
You racist motherfucker.
pretty much every song on pink moon is like that. that's what comes to mind first anyway
