Under The Iron Sea
They became one of my favourite bands on the back of this album. Absolutely awesome stuff. Tim's musicianship is simply through the roof, Richard's drumming reminds me a lot of Larry Mullen Jr, and as for Tom Chaplin...well, what can I say? Gives me shivers every time I listen to it. Sam's Town
Bigger, better and more brilliant than Hot Fuss could ever DARE to be- and THAT was excellent.
A sexy, synth-powerful yet more guitar-heavy sophomore, it was a concept album, telling the story of Sam's Town, and those who live in it. Easily their best material yet, even with a couple of tracks that took a while to settle in (For Reasons Unknown). This would have been my #1 for 2006 were it not for, well, #1. | | 3 |  | My Chemical Romance

My Chemical Romance NAILED it with this album. It is the epitome of everything good they have ever done, past and present, rolled into one. It's the best rock opera you'll hear this side of "American Idiot". | | 4 |  | Brand New
The Devil And God Are Raging Inside Me
Wow. That is a word to describe this album. After every listen (and trust me, there were plenty) all I could say was "...wow". I love every second of this album. It's an emotional journey, much like the Underoath album, but 10 times more powerful and personal. Listening to tracks like "Limosuine" I think of slow-motion car crashes. It's disturbing, I know, but this album takes you there and back. The album has amazing lyrics, and some really top drumming too! | | 5 |  | Gnarls Barkley
St. Elsewhere
The best pop of this year, of recent years, maybe even the best pop album to come out this decade. Cee-Lo's vocals were soaring and brilliant, DangerMouse is a production god- their paring is a dream come true. It's so dark and experimental. Really, in all truth like NOTHING else around in 2006. Black Fingernails, Red Wine
My favourite Australian release of the year. The band gave it their all and put out their best record. It's practically flawless. Kav's vocals are more diverse and powerful than ever before, Joel really stretches out on every instrument, and Stu pulls out some very memorable riffing. There's something in the water over in Perth, I swear. A lot of brilliant, brilliant stuff is coming out of Perth right now, check it all out!! | | 7 | | Angels & Airwaves
We Don't Need To Whisper
I still get a lot of shit for liking them so much. All the U2 comparisons and shit. But I just found this record to be awe-inspiring and a great exploration of alternative rock. Tom's production was a blast, especially listening on headphones. And the album painted some really interesting pictures in my head. My art was inspired by their music for a long time in this year. Define The Great Line
A record that just tore me apart emotionally. This band, for me, came out of absolutely nowhere and became one of my favourite bands. I got this album in October and listened to it countless times. I love its passion and the huge vocal range of Spencer and Aaron. Every time I hear this album, I notice something different. Something special. And that's why I love this album. | | 9 |  | Tool
10,000 Days
OK, I don't think this band could have released ANYTHING without it getting into my top ten. However, this was a great record. Sure, there was a little too much filler, but it all followed the concept of the fight to remain alive. Most of it is about Judith Marie Keenan, Maynard's mum, and some of the lyrics are downright chilling. Maynard hasn't sounded this good vocally since "Mer De Noms" six years ago. | | 10 |  | Yeah Yeah Yeahs
Show Your Bones
I honestly thought they'd split up, or imploded or something like that. But I'm glad they didn't! Because this album really is their best. Strong, almost bluesy, vocals from Karen, and Brian's drumming makes the songs like Phenomena and Gold Lion instantly recognisable. All other instrumentation on the album is from the backbone of the band, Nick Zimmer. What a mastermind he is!!

Continuum
Another record I felt like I had to wait forever to get. But oh so worth it! Lyrically excellent, musically his strongest and a brilliant backing band behind him, John has certainly grown up from the bright eyed kid that gave us "No Such Thing". | | 12 |  | Jet
Shine On
We waited long enough, but sure enough, Jet gave us their awesome second album. Stronger than the first in musicianship, songwriting and production, I really have no complaints about this album at all. The Cesters have really worked on their vocals and harmonies too. Vision Valley
I never thought I'd hear from one of my favourite bands ever again. I mean, they'd lost it all. And Craig was practically a ticking time bomb. But they pulled through, and gave us this album. Thornography
Easily the best metal to my ears from 2006. Dark, thrashing, BRILLIANTLY produced (especially the drums), and Mr. Dani Filth is sounding incredible on this record. They're his best lyrics and vocals to date, and Cradle really raised the bar on this album. | | 16 |  | AFI
Decemberunderground
The first time I heard "Miss Murder" I was really happy. I really liked it. And I could NOT get it out of mmy head for about three weeks!!! Despite mainstream overplay, it's still a great song. This whole record sees AFI go for a new image, a new style and some of their strongest material to date. I don't think that AFI have been more comfortable as a band than right now. | | 17 |  | The Mars Volta
Amputechture
Another record Mr. Frusciante had a huge impact on was this record, on which he played guitar parts written by Omar. The first Volta record not to include some form of concept, this record was, as a result, all over the place. Nevertheless, this record has given the band some of their best songs yet, and they are really streching their wings as far out as possible, flying from the At the Drive-In days and into rock music's future. | | 18 |  | Red Hot Chili Peppers
Stadium Arcadium
Bass god Michael "Flea" Balzary said it best about this album- "if you don't like this, then you don't like the Chilis". Even if the record could have easily been turned into one disc, there is some great musicianship on this incredibly expansive work, especially of the amazing John Frusciante. Now, Diabolical
One of the heaviest things I've heard in a long, long time. Satyr and Frost are two excellent musicians, not just in the area of black metal. Louder Now
I'll admit, NO I'm not an old school fan. Only been listening for a couple of years. But when this record came out, I was really intrigued and wanted to hear it. When I did, I was MASSIVELY impressed! They have really shrug off the emo rubbish with this album, and just made some awesome, fast rock music. | |
