05.15.12 | I can't wait to read it. |
Spec
05.15.12 | The problem with listening to music while I write is that the song tends to follow the direction of whatever I'm listening to. |
johnnyblaze
05.15.12 | ^ same... which is why i can only write to post-rock, jazz, and classical |
Thane
05.15.12 | yeah what spec said, and then when you're jamming on going "woah what did i just play that ruled oh its that song by 'insert band'"
i've written a lot of stuff lately, gonna record some of it soon and release an EP wayyaaaa |

05.15.12 | Spec is saying the truth. There is a tendency in which younger musicians suffer from, when writing their music. That is also the case with me.
However, if you can clear your head and discard what you have heard you will be able to write sth "original". Although, your influences will always be heard in your music. It's impossible to erase your influences. |
Spec
05.15.12 | You don't even notice you ripped someone off either haha. Dangerous. |
Spec
05.15.12 | But yeah for lyrics, Jazz, Post-Rock and Black Metal are usually the best. |
phantomboss133
05.15.12 | I suggest looking up Eluveitie- The Arcane Domion. They are a Swiss (i think) metal band that, in many songs, speak in the dead language Gaulish. that album is an acoustic album. if you like heavier stuff, their album Spirit is their best non-acoustic album |

05.15.12 | please dont review 1 |

05.15.12 | "you used that word literally twice whithin your last two-three sput comments"
I know, I have a very ambiguous (!) mind. And I like rhetorics. And stuff.

05.15.12 | This exploded rather quickly.
To Phantomboss, I actually can't stand the one Eluveitie album I've heard. Slania? But I'll give them another shot, no harm in it. Thanks.

05.15.12 | I usually end up listening to an album or song that inspires me to pick up the guitar and figure out a new riff or sound that starts to grow into a song or a series of riffs for a song. Those moments are where it's at and what drives me as a musician, when I find those moments where I find my true potential as a song writer. When the cheese starts flowing it gets my noodle going. |
Iamthe Nightstars
05.15.12 | I've never heard of the concept of listening to music while writing music. Sounds pretty silly to me. |
RevenantBlue
05.15.12 | Beautifully spoken, Wacknizzle. |
RevenantBlue
05.15.12 | Oh, I hope everyone knows that by "writing" I mean, like, writing. Short stories, long stories. Fiction. Sometimes lyrics, but mostly, you know. Literature. |
UnnamedOcean
05.15.12 | It's kind of confusing to say "writing music" in that case. Probably should have titled it "Music I listen to while writing." |
RevenantBlue
05.15.12 | Yeah, I should have made it a bit clearer lol. I liked the "musics" theme I had going; Study, Work Out, Writing, etc.
On a side note, I just noticed that 6 of the 10 album covers feature trees (I assume Descent's cover is an orgy of roots). |
Dolving999
05.16.12 | For me, a writing session is better when you've just finished watching a movie. You got so much in your head that it'll flow naturally, depending on the movie. The musical influence is already in your head, you don't really need to hear while composing. |
Wolfhorde
05.16.12 | ^ Can you read? Because if you you would know by now this isn't about composing. I can only write when I listen to stuff that enables me to concentrate on writing, e.g. Death Metal, Breakcore and anything that's fast and senseless. Always jamming Bolt Thrower & Immolation when writing papers for school, heh. |
SpiritCrusher2
05.16.12 | well the title says writing music... EDIT: oops didn't read all the comments. stupid list title then |
SpiritCrusher2
05.16.12 | one year in high school, I used to listen to Colors every time I studied math. then during the exams, songs were playing in my head the whole time haha. listening to fast, technical music helps me concentrate. basically what Wolfhorde said. |
Wolfhorde
05.16.12 | My best paper was actually written while I was high and listening to Pig Destroyer, lol. |
SpiritCrusher2
05.16.12 | hahaha awesome |

05.16.12 | Well, it was collaborative effort and my partner was on the same party - hence he was also high so intially we didn't really think it would end up that good. Especially since we also had quite some caffeine in us 'cause we did it at night. Good times. |
