After the Smashing Pumpkins broke up in 2000, Billy Corgan set about making a new project. He recruited Matt Sweeney (guitar) from Chavez, and took Jimmy Chamberlin (Drums) from his old band. After the Smashing Pumpkins broke up in 2000, Billy Corgan set about making a new project. He recruited Matt Sweeney (guitar) from Chavez, and took Jimmy Chamberlin (Drums) from his old band. The trio later added Paz Lenchantin (bass) and David Pajo (Guitar). When they released their first album, titled Mary Star Of The Sea, it was met with mixed reviews. Many called it a great album, full of catchy numbers, and Corgan's best work since Siamese Dream (1993), while others called it a poor substitute of the Smashing Pumpkins. The album charted well at first, but it soon fell off the charts, the singles charting at mediocre positions (the lead single Honestly was called a 'half-hit wonder'.) It was considered a commercial disappointment. As most people will know, Zwan broke in 2003 because Billy's "heart was still in the Smashing Pumpkins." Interviews with Corgan ensuing the break-up had him claiming that there were affairs within the bands and drug use, leading him to "detest" the people in the band, though he still remains best friends with Jimmy Chamberlain. While the other members of Zwan have remained silent, for the most part, about the break-up, Pajo claims Corgan's accusations are exaggerated. « hide
