Steve Hackett
Progressive

A truly influential master of the guitar (be it acoustic, electric, or in a classical sense) Stephen (Steve) Hackett was born on February 12, 1950 in Pimlico, England. A truly influential master of the guitar (be it acoustic, electric, or in a classical sense) Stephen (Steve) Hackett was born on February 12, 1950 in Pimlico, England. In the 1970's, his endeavours as the guitarist of Genesis - starting with the album Nursery Cryme - were integral in creating the band's unique sound and their place in the pantheon of great Progressive Rock bands. After the departure of Peter Gabriel from Genesis in 1975, Hackett issued his first solo album, Voyage of the Acolyte, in the wake of the band's disarray. Featuring Genesis members Mike Rutherford and Phil Collins, the album showed strong progressive leanings and has been called the best album Genesis never made.

However, Hackett's time in Genesis was to come to an end soon. After the tour for the album Wind and Wuthering in 1977, he decided to leave the band; perhaps seeking more creative freedoms in creating music. Since that time, Hackett has enjoyed a long and illustrious solo career. His genre-crossing work has won critical praise from musicians of all types from around the world. Hackett cites some of his influences as Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, George Harrison, and JS Bach. « hide
