Rosetta was formed during the summer of 2003 in Philadelphia. It consists of Michael Armine, who manipulates sounds and vocalizes, David Grossman, who plays the bass, Bruce McMurtrie Jr., who provides percussion, and J. Matthew Weed, who plays the guitar and occasionally the violin.
In 2004 Translation Loss records expressed interest in releasing some recordings made by this group of people, thus the 2xCD "Galilean Satellites" was born. Recorded from August to December of 2004, the record spans 118 minutes and is half abrasive roar and half ambient wash, intended to be played simultaneously to achieve its full effect. It was released in early fall of 2005.
