The album was a huge success, mostly due to the surprise hit single 'Wuthering Heights,' topping the UK charts upon its release. Herdistinctivethree-octave voice, literary-based lyrics and eclectic personality somehow found a niche in the late 80s pop scene and made her acelebrity.

Her second release, 'Lionheart,' followed the same year, along with heavy promotion and a world tour. This aspect of businessmadeBushuncomfortable and this, coupled with her dissatisfaction at what she felt was a rushed album, prompted Bush to make it the only tour ofhercareer.

Bush slowly began to withdraw from public life, taking more and more responsibility for her own output. Through the 80s she developed aslowandpainstaking approach to recording, only emerging from her private world for sporadic album releases, which began less and lesscommonthroughoutthe late 80s and 90s.

In November 2005, Bush released the double-CD 'Aerial,' her first original album since 1993's 'The Red Shoes,' peaking at #3 in the UKAlbumCharts. The first single from the album, 'King of the Mountain,' was released in September 2005 and peaked at #4 in the UK singlescharts. « hide
