Led by sexually ambigous vocalist Antony Hegarty, Antony and the Johnsons are an odd amalgamate of avant-garde sensibilities cloaked in
palpable chamber pop. While Antony's voice may turn some listeners off and his gender-confused lyrics may be disquieting to some, he has
received much critical praise (including winning Britain's prestigious 2005 Mercury Music Prize, awarded to the best new band of the year) and
has attracted a cult following that is sure to only grow in size and fervor in the coming years. It should be noted that while Antony was born in
England, he has spent the better part of his life living in America.
