At first the Lips started out as a punk band flooding with raw energy. With each album you could tell that the band is maturing, In 1991 the band started moving towards a more acid-pop sound with their release of "Hit to Death in the Future Head." In 1993 the band got its first taste of success, 'She don't use Jelly' was a top 40 hit in '93, and even appeared on MTV. However in 1999 the Lips changed everything around and dropped their raw psychedelic/punk roots. "The Soft Bulletin" is the bands 10th album, and it is an atmospheric, spacey album. "Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots" was the bands latest release and got noticed because of the odd title it was given, and because it was made up of bright atmospheric pop tunes. The Flaming Lips have done just about everything, from quirky bubblegum pop songs, to punk, to atmospheric space jazz songs. « hide |
