Underoath is a 6-piece band from Tampa, Florida and was formed in 1998. Seemingly, 'Oath has a knack for doing a metalcore release, something different, and then falling back on their original genre. You've got Act Of Depression, which is a very thrashy, very Converge influenced metalcore album, then Cries Of The Past, a very black metal influenced melodic death album, then Changing Of Times, a very screamo influenced metalcore album, etc.
With "The Changing of Times". the band returned with a sound that was enriched with a lot of programming and keyborad work. Many fans thought the band had lost it's edge, and moreso when original singer Dallas Taylor departed from the band. He was replaced by Spencer Chamberlaine, who brought a different perspective to the sound of Underoath's next and up to date most succesful album, "They're only chasing safety". The roots of their sound were somewhat still noticable, but seemed watered down, creating what many called Pop-core music. Nevertheless, the album was a huge success, especially in the United States.
