Weezer - The Green Album
Geffen (2001)

Weezer's Members At The Time:
Rivers Cuomo - Vocals & Guitar
Brian Bell - Guitar
Mikey Welsh - Bass
Patrick Wilson - Drums

This album is actually self-titled, but most people know it as the "Green Album". It was Weezer's come back album after taking a few years off. There are many reasons, just some being that Weezer's fan club presidents Mykel and Carli had passed away in a car accident on the way to a Weezer show, bassist Matt Sharp left the band, and their last album, "Pinkerton", wasn't as popular as the "Blue Album".

Weezer is my favorite band, and has been for quite a few years, but I will try to keep this review not biased. This album is pretty average all the way through. Weezer released three singles with it, "Hash Pipe", "Island In The Sun", and "Photograph". "Hash Pipe" was a big hit, being catchy and something different from the current mainstreem music. Most people like this album, and so do I, but it is a big change from the old Weezer. Which was to be expected I guess.

The Songs:
1. Don't Let Go - An upbeat start to the album. Great opener. One of my favorites on the album. River's sings great. I like this guitar solo too. Pretty simple, but just helps make the song even more catchier. Pretty generic Weezer song for this album. 4/5

2. Photograph - Weezer's third, and final single off this album. I'm not a big fan of this song, but is alright. I like the chorus, but it's simple. I also like this guitar solo. Again, short, simple, but keeps the song going and catchy. 3/5

3. Hash Pipe - Their first single. I heard it on the radio and went "What the fu'ck is that? That is Weezer? They're back? Doesn't sound like them at all." But I have learned to like it. At first thought you would obviously think that it is about hashish, but it is actually about male prostitutes. 4/5

4. Island In The Sun - Second single from the band. They actually made two videos. One before Mikey Welsh left the band, and another after without him. Probably the slowest song on the album, but gets louder in the chorus. This song got really popular, they even played it at a school dance at my school. It is actually the only Weezer song ever that I don't like. 2/5

5. Crab - Now I really like this song. This is when the album starts to get better in my opinion. Awesome intro. Again, the traditional simple Weezer formula that rules. Once again, the wah solo keeps the song going at an upbeat, catchy pace. 4.5/5

6. Knock-down Drag-out - This song is alright. It is kind of short and repetitive, but still rocks. I like how it keeps gaining strength until the last chorus, and they just rock out. I have seen them play this live, and it was wicked. 4/5

7. Smile - Alright song. Kind of boring. A sad love song, like most on the album. The simple solo saves it. 3/5

8. Simple Pages - My second favorite on the album. So catchy, it'll be playing in your head for days. Medium tempo and strength. River's singing is kind of blah, but still great. 4.5/5

9. Glorious Day - My personal favorite on this album. I don't really know why. Chorus is just rocking, solo is rocking, and one of the few songs that aren't sad love stories. Upbeat, happy, and awesome. 5/5

10 O Girlfriend - Meh, I'm not a fan of this song. I usually just stop the album after "Glorious Day". It is kind of long, well compared to the others, and really repetitive. It is yet another song about being lovesick.

Weezer rules. This is probably my least favorite out of their four albums so far, but still rocking. Post any comments, and feel free to make your own review.

i kinda like the green album...it's something to listen to when you want short bursts of happiness. i think island in the sun deserved a four while photograph deserves a 2.

The album all sounds... the same.

I really didn't like it.

I'd have to say that I don't like recent Weezer near as much as old Weezer. The Blue Album kills this one.

Not to mention that this album took forever to come out, and it's embarassingly short for such a long wait for new material.

Indeed.

I didn't say they spent half a decade. Roll eyes, yourself.

And if this was a "comeback" album, it should have had more material.

I have no idea why everyone hates (or at least thinks this is the worst weezer album) this cd!!!!

IMO it is tied with The Blue cd. I honestly did not like Maladroit very much.

Pinkerton 6/5

Blue/Green 5/5

Maladroit 1.5/5

I really don't appreciate it because it doesn't have the feel of The Blue Album or Pinkerton. It's got this mainstream rock feel to it, not a laid-back alternative feel. The lyrics have gotten uninteresting (though they're worse on Maladroit... ugh), and the guitar parts are boring.

I'd give it a 3/5, maybe. The Blue Album rightly deserves a high 4/5, however.

The UK version has a song called 'I Do' at the end, which is a soft, keyboard driven song, it adds that feeling of completeness I thought it originally didn't touch on.
The Green Album is great for happy days, but is still probably the worst Weezer album. Crab and Glorius Day are the best!

i basically disagree with the whole thing. Island in the sun is the only good song, photograph is ok, the rest suck.
