Summary: The Dillinger Escape Plan's second release, being technical and catchy, proves to be one of the greatest releases by this band.

3 of 3 thought this review was well written

At the time of this release the members of The Dillinger Escape Plan were:
Adam Doll - bass
Dimitri Minakakis - vocals
Chris Pennie - drums
Ben Weinman - guitar

The first song I heard from The Dillinger Escape Plan was Panasonic Youth off of Miss Machine. I hated it. I thought it was just noise. Then about a year later I heard Setting Fire to Sleeping Giants. I love it. I decided to go back to Panasonic Youth and try to like it. I not only liked it but I loved it. So I went out and bought Miss Machine. I listened to it for about a month and loved it. Next i decided to get this album. I had investigated and knew it was only 8 minutes in length.
I got the EP and as soon as I got home I put it on my iTunes. I listened to the EP 13 times in a row in one sitting. I could not get enough of this EP. Anyway On to the review.

The EP starts out with The Mullet Burden which never fails to impress me. This song has so much power that the first couple times I heard it my jaw almost dropped. This song shows raw talent from every member of the band, as do every other song on this EP. With drums that are all over the place, booming bass, and guitar that soars all over the fret board. Not to mention the undeniable power of Dimitri's vocals. I think all these aspects are present in every song on this EP.

Up Next is Sandbox Magician which is probably the calmest song. Oh, but its no ballad, its just probably the easiest to grasp. With memorable riffs everywhere in this song, the jazz break at the end is what gets you. That was stuck in my head for days. This song is amazing.

Last but definitely not least is my favorite song on the album, Abe the Cop. This is the longest song on the album clocking in at only 3:12. This song shows every great aspect of DEP. With drums that would give your grandmother a heart attack, and guitars that leave you wishing you could achieve even a hint of what Ben Weinman is doing.

Overall, with only 3 songs and being only 8 minutes, its still my favorite Dillinger Escape Plan CD. Dimitri will be missed by me. He had great power and great lyrics.

Pros
- Great songs showing quality song writing skills
- Drums that are all over the place, booming bass, and guitar that soars all over the fret board
- Dimitri's vocals!
- The songs are catchy but not on first listen, you have to grow into them.

Cons
- Needs to be way longer

Luckily, the first song I heard from DEP was The mullet burden, a better introduction I could not have imagined.

The re-release of this with the sped up cover of "Paranoid" slays.
