Jimmy eat world jumped on to my radar in 2003 with the release of one of my favourite films, Cheaper by the Dozen. I was instantly hooked by the jamming guitars and romping bass of the song "The Middle" and still in my eyes is their best release to date. In terms of catchy pop songs the chorus to "The Middle" ticks all the boxes and gets me going.

Fast-forward 16 years and Jimmy Eat World are still making great, relevant music. Even though they have not been able to catch lightning in a bottle twice in terms of topping their magnum opus "in the Middle" they still are making songs that get me tapping my foot and clicking my fingers.

Surviving is an album that goes from bops like the sexy-sax filled 'All the way' to bangers and finishes off with a hell of a blaster with the hardcore/post-metal closer "Congratulations" When I listen to this song I almost feel like I'm listening to a heavy death metal hardcore heavy rock song as the drums and guitar go crazy strong and heavy. This song alone proves Jimmy Eat World are not just resting on their laurels and cookie cuttering their sound from previous releases. Exploring sounds and grooves not yet visited in their previous 20+ years.

As "Congratulations" comes to a romping end I can't help but say congratulations to Jimmy Eat World for consistently breathing life into the pop/alt-rock scene with yet another solid release. Where other bands like Fall Out Boy and Panic! at the Disco have either turned to poop or sold out, the Pop/Alt-Rock scene maintains its foundation with Jimmy Eat World.

Jim Adkins, Rick Burch, Zach Lind, and Tom Linton passion is in every second of this latest release and makes me confident they still have a lot of juice in the tank for future releases.
