Vampire Weekend Vampire Weekend | 4.0 |
Here?s something out of a cult classic vampire movie, though you knew that was coming.
Basically if you took Bob Marley, grew him up in San Diego in the middle of a MxPx concert and told him to record his thoughts and musical tastes he most likely would produce something along the lines of Vampire Weekend, though then again, maybe not, but you can surely tell that these guys have grown up on Marley, weed and classic movies.
You would think they suck from this review and that the genre is too mixed up, but these kids do for music what Che Guevara did for Latin America. Viva a Bloody Vampire weekend!! yum. |
Mates of State Re-Arrange Us | 4.5 |
From the Wicker Park Soundtrack these guys arrived kicking and swinging and became instant hits in my world, like most everything else on that album.
With Re-Arrange Us there’s completely a grown up cleaner and more full sound, though no loss of experimentation. They use effective piano, egg shakers, violin guitars orange juice and vodka which they then shake and consume creating fantastic mind explosions. Mix Imogen Heap with some Jimmy Eat World if you want to get technical on me.
It seems that Male/Female vocal duos are becoming more and more amazing these days, then again maybe they’re mates from MY state. HA! Yeah right! Whatever their deal is, they should be rocking the apostrophe. |

I’m reminded of Jefferson Cross emo pre-businessman, road trip 2005 across New Zealand, with Ashley Simpson blaring, and there he “sits,” completely rocking out and singing every word at the top of his lungs with her.
Okay Charlotte Sometimes isn’t Ashley, but she’s for sure a rocker with sweet mature lyrics and yeah i gave her a listen and was drawn in cause she’s pretty hot.
It’s a quick listen with only three tracks, however she’s sure to release a full record soon. Despite the shortness we get some fast kisses and even run around the bases before we’re threw and already getting jealous.
Maybe Charlotte, maybe sometimes, maybe the 16 year old girl in all of us. Maybe not. Whatever the case, this one here’s for you Jeffy. |

Cinematic Sunrise A Coloring Story Book And A Long-Playing | 4.5 |
Side projects tend to usually rock. In Chiodos? case they do more than that in that they take the aspect of the beautiful vampire?s 18 year old hot and sexy sister. Yeah, let?s just say i was blown away.
We?ve got more melodic, more happy, more poppy and more emotion with creative creations, like the pit-er pat-er on the rooftop, but mostly just that 18 year old beautiful hot sexy sister.
Cinematic Sunrise grows from melodies built on piano, to smashing drums and riffs that make that too early sunrise quite cinematic? but really, don?t wake up that early again, just listen to Cinematic Sunrise.
So go ahead, break out the crayons and color that emo vampire you?ve always thought was hot; but be careful, you just might get bitten at sunrise. |

Los Campesinos! Hold On Now, Youngster... | 4.5 |
This is what music should sould like. Its feisty, raw and emotional but yet melodic. Its weird but very very creative. Los Campesinos! set a new level for creativity with many instruments and singers which culminate their musical dance like Tinkerbell on speed.
I love how both Gareth and Aleksandra get aggressive and its like were included into their discussions on life, love, happiness and of course hornyness (including everything else too).
Take Welsh singers from their mines throw in some Madison Greene and put them in 2010; Los Campesinos! (but of course you have to be accelerated readers and never leave the house.)
Even the lyrical construction is raw and emotion and thats how LC! will flipping blow your socks off, so cmon, get up, shake those socks off; Its You! Me! Dancing! |

Being from Texas is already climbing out of a hole, though i guess it’s more of a step for the fantastic playradioplay! With electroinic mixes, divy in some mixes and loops and grab some wonderful vocals and second year senior lyrics from Danny Hunter (the brain of prp!), you’ll be on the thursday night bull ride at the club till 2am. Don’t get me wrong, if that’s not a brain thrill for you then take a sit back, listen to, “i’m a pirate you’re a princess…” [if you're quick enough to notice they switch from 3/4 time to 4/4 mid song], you’ll be pretty much lulled into the idea that even courtney would love us, orr that you’re a real princess and i’m arrrg.
With their sophomore release, there’s hearty lyrics like a good delicious soup your mother made that one time back on that glorious sunday afternoon, as you stared into the evening fire you built with your boyscout skillz. yadda yadda.
