People are going to hate this, that's an inevitability. Basically if you enjoyed Monolith, this won't disappoint. It gets a tad repetitive and formulaic, but overall it's a fun album that never lets up. (And if you've ever seen these guys live, you'll know that was the point)

Combining the bare-bones of both grind, emo and black metal genres then violently mixing them into a chaotic yet beautiful collection of 11 over-the-top tracks, United Nations does exactly what Geoff Rickly wanted since the start of the band back in 2005; stand out. This is definitely Best-of-2014 material.

While all instrumentation and vocals might have been recorded on a potato, Fallujah pull off a diverse and atmospheric album just in time to save us all from the many repetitious death metal foul-ups of today. If anything should be proven in the wake of this album, it's that the structure they've build can and will be refined.

Writing a full review would be a waste of time for an album like this. A better title; HAIL FILLER. It shows promise with some new members and tight instrumentals, but left me skipping through almost every track. The vocals are so lazy and unbearable that their first EP looks like a godsend.

Volumes No Sleep2.5
As a fan beginning from their first EP release, this was a let down that I had not expected from a band that obviously had the right idea in mind. While the lyrics and inclusion of more believable clean vocals feels on-par with Via, the overall production became the ax for this album. Listening to the pre-production of "Vahle" and the same song on this LP is somewhat cringing to my poor, little djenty heart... (fuck me, I know.)
Volumes Via4.0
Not only a "catchy as fuck" LP but ultimately something that grips the emotional side of metal with open-minded lyrical passages and exceptional approach towards groovey stucture, Volumes hit the nail on the head with this first release. While I usually gripe about originality in most of my reviews, something about this album feels somewhat like a comfortable familiar instead of recycled lost ambition. Truly an album I'm glad to own in it's physical form.

A band that brings back so many amazing memories and an album that took them to the next level, Fear Factory's classic industral/alternative/prog metal trip left me with a new palate of musical influence. A departure of the story driven man vs. machine narratives and only rarely venturing into the squeaky-clean lands of their previous effort, FF takes the emotional tone to max.

While pushing forward with a old/new vocalist and a more mello-thrash based sound first heard in Adam and Jessie's side project, Killswitch Engage pulls off an emotional but ultimately forgettable release. Most will see, like myself, their lead singles are the only saving grace for these once captivating artists.

Not only completely dashing from "The Second LP Curse" but also making small creative changes in their already strong formula, Erra returns with a highlight in modern melodic metalcore greatness. It truly amazes me with each listen how much weight and varied song-structure each song carries. I look forward to future releases.
ERRA Impulse4.5
An exceptional debut from a very creative band. From technical melodies and soothing background ambiance, many bands of the same caliber never see the light of day. It only goes to show that hard work has it's reward.

Using an unbelievability toppling amount of copy-and-pasted material from their first outstanding album, Periphery proves that what had made them special to many in the first place was nothing more than a one night stand. .... that was a very awkward metaphor.

Being a little on the lengthy side and nothing really wholly original, I did leave a little exhausted. Nonetheless, a very impressive and fun debut coming from the ashes of an extremely tasteless core band. This features some extremely catchy hooks and has some really cool ideas. Time will tell what will come out of this project.
Oceans Ate Alaska Lost Isles3.5
I think this album (or even the band as a whole) deserves more credit than its been getting. This is not your average -core. It has flaws, but not nearly as many as others. This has way more depth and intrigue that any other release I've heard in the first half of 2015.

The album itself is a focus on speed and aggression in the music, rather than the melodies that were typical on previous material. Some will like it, other will not. I personally found it really refreshing to hear an act from Japan, especially FACT, take this on.

Without a doubt, Kendrick Lemar has created something quite remarkable that will change the way many look at rap in the end. True expression, passion and all-out chaotic beauty. The hype has never been more real.

This comes out the same day as GTA 5 on PC. Now all I need is weed to be legalized in MO and I can declare this an official holiday. But really, on a serious note, this album is gonna be great.
