Trivium Silence in the Snow | 3.0 |
Good album but nothing really stands out, I got to about track 6 or 7 before I checked the track-list as I thought I was still on the 1st or 2nd track. If they can get a bit more of an identity injected into this sound and try some cool ideas with a track or two the follow up to this could be great. |
Bring Me the Horizon That's the Spirit | 2.5 |
It's grown on me but it's still a pretty bad album considering their previous album was pretty damn good. There are some tracks here that are great and they are mainly the tracks that were likely Sempiternal B-sides like 'Happy Song' and 'Avalanche', but the rest is just rock radio garbage that I can listen to in short bursts but this record is not a patch on the previous effort. |
Muse Drones | 3.5 |
Muse show on this album where their real problem lies and that is in not knowing when to stop. This album could be up there with the best records of their career but it isn't because many songs fall short due to poor decisions in the studio. 'Dead Inside' a good track ruined by a pointless hook. 'Reapers' closing riff killed by repeat shouts of "Here Come The Drones". 'Psycho' choosing not to leave the interlude as just that and weaving it into the track itself. The best tracks on 'Drones' are the ones where Muse believe in their ability to craft a damn good rock song 'Mercy', 'The Handler', '[JFK]/Defector' and 'The Globalist'. All of those tracks are simple and to the point with very little other than the vocals and the instruments doing the talking. If Drones was more like those tracks it would quite honestly be the best thing they'd ever done, instead it's just the best thing they're done in over a decade but I'll take that.. Welcome back Muse. |
The Prodigy The Day Is My Enemy | 3.0 |
While She Sleeps Brainwashed | 5.0 |
Jack U Skrillex and Diplo Present Jack U | 3.5 |
Diplo brings Skrillex back to his roots somewhat and it makes for an enjoyable record.. It's not the best thing ever, but it's certainly not the worst either. |
Periphery Juggernaut: Omega | 3.0 |
Periphery Juggernaut: Alpha | 3.0 |
Aphex Twin Computer Controlled Acoustic Instruments Pt 2 | 3.5 |
Fall Out Boy American Beauty/American Psycho | 3.5 |
Pop music for a new generation.. This album is a pop masterpiece and it comes from an unlikely
source, Fall Out Boy. This is a band that were never ashamed of pop hooks, but they used them with
nuance in the past to make their punk sound more unique. Here we see the band put pop to the fore
to great effect, this is an album where every track is a perfectly crafted pop song and it's a joy
to listen to. If I was to rate this as a purely pop record ignoring the band behind it, I'd likely
give it a 4/5. Though because Fall Out Boy have made better music than this albeit not as catchy,
I would rate it 3/5. So to be fair I will sit on the fence and give it a 3.5/5. |
Lupe Fiasco Tetsuo and Youth | 4.5 |
