| Weezer SS2K | 3.5 |
"SS2K (or Summer Songs 2000) is considered an official unofficial Weezer album. When Weezer returned from hiatus in the summer of 2000, their tour showcased a sampling of their new material. The 14 new songs were adored by fans, however no good quality mp3's of them were available to listen to. So, in response to the fans' outcry, and specifically one website, Weezer decided to give the fans what they wanted. Choosing the best soundboard recordings of the 10 best songs - decided by Rivers - mp3's were created and edited to be what they would if released on an album. Given a tracklisting created by Rivers, the official unofficial ss2k album was released to the masses, in perfect quality."

All I can say is, although this collection of songs is better than Green, and Make Believe, it does not quite add up to Pinkerton or Blue. That said, it is still a great CD, and worthy of being brothers to Blue and Pinkerton (unlike Green and Make Believe). The songs have anger, happiness, sadness, the whole works. Guitar solos are present and very welcome here. It's hard to explain this album any more than I have.

Sad Sappy Sucker is an EP released in 2001 containing their first recordings, including their unreleased first album
which was lost and replaced with This Is A Long Drive.. Also included are Brock's Dial-A-Song recordings in which
you originally would have to call his answering machine to hear.
I personally love Modest Mouses early recording, so this was a no-brainer for me to buy. The only things that may
not set well with some are that the production isn't too great and that although the Dial-A-Song part is interesting, it
doesn't have much replay value.
If you like MMs early work, I recommend this with all my heart. If you've only just gotten into MM, stay away from
this one For awhile.
Since im part of the former, this gets a strong 4.5 from me.
P.S. my rating has changed to a 3.5. |
