The Murder Capital offer a gothic, more brooding take on the noisey post punk that's been rising
in popularity as of late. They kind of sound like Nick Cave doing IDLES (especially on closing
dirge "Love, Love, Love"). Every song is good, but the pacing of the album is a bit off, bouncing
between higher energy tracks and more contemplative ballads at a rate that leaves the listener
with whiplash. For the post-punk bangers, check out the Joy Division-esque "Don't Cling To Life"
as well as opener "For Everything". For the ballads come to the sparse piano-and-baritone "How the
Streets Adore Me Now" |

one time i was seeing someone and i sent them this album with the context of "this is one of my favorite albums of all time, check it out and let me know what you think" and all they had to say after three (3) listens was that it reminded them of the U2 album apple forced on everyone in like 2014 i will literally never recover from this |
Trophy Eyes The American Dream | 2.5 |
There's moments of greatness here, but a lot of the decisions Trophy Eyes make on this album are... puzzling. John's vocal performance is fantastic, and he shows a gorgeous clean baritone on a few songs. My main qualms with this record are the repetitive choruses and the incessant use of gang vocals. It feels like they were trying too hard to write a Catchy Chorus Hit with each song. rMaybe it was impossible not to be disappointed after Chemical Miracle, but thankfully it's not nearly as bad as i imagined it to be from the singles. I'll keep listening and hope it grows on me. (it didn't :/) |

honestly a year out i still am really into this record. Home Alone sucks and Crass Tattoo is forgettable but Number One In New York has some of my favorite TA lyrics and one-liners and Mass Transit Madness is a moving take on the way capitalism breaks the individual, a theme the whole album tackles with mixed success. The rest of the album is the band just having fun and, this time around, from a band that's already given us so much, that's enough. 1, 2, and 7 are my picks. Long live Paddy Stacks! |
