The four albums on this compilation belong to their first musical phase, a most experimental
phase, a phase probably more linked with the krautrock music than to the electronic music of their
following releases. This is especially true about "Electronic Meditation". These are four albums
then that provided the roots for the electronic subculture to bloom and that provided the
inspiration for a whole host of bands that followed in the same or slightly different direction.
The band is a different beast today but we can say that everything started here.

Opeth Deliverance & Damnation Remixed4.0
"Deliverance & Damnation" is nothing more than a compilation of both Opeth albums "Deliverance"
and "Damnation", joined on a double CD. It's very interesting to have "Deliverance" and
"Damnation" as a double studio album combining perfectly well the two musical sides of Opeth.
Originally released in 2002 and 2003 respectively, "Deliverance" and "Damnation" were once
considered to be released as a double CD album, but Mikael Akerfeldt eventually decided to send
them out on their own separately, as both are so completely different from each other that it just
made better sense that way. From there, we all know the history. "Deliverance" is one of the
heaviest albums in the Opeth canon, as their brand of progressive death metal goes into levels of
brutality, beauty, and complexity that saw no stopping the band, while "Damnation" scales things
back considerably in the form of gorgeous, melodic progressive rock with a healthy dose of folk
leanings. Two polar opposite albums, but one that clearly sparked a shift in the band to more
classic prog waters that would fully come to fruition a decade later. Buying it is an interesting
experience really

"The Studio Albums" is a great compilation album of Roxy Music. This is a very complete
compilation album with all studio albums of the band on only one package. So, this compilation
album is an excellent alternative for all who don't have the studio discography of Roxy Music.
"The Studio Albums" is very similar to other compilation album "The First Seven Albums". The only
difference, as its name indicates, is that "The First Seven Albums" has only the first seven
studio albums of the band, missing to it their last studio album "Avalon", an album that had not
yet been released in 1981, the year of its release. So, if you need to have a compilation album of
the band with their studio works, "The Studio Albums" is a better option because it has all the
studio albums of the band.

Steve Hackett Genesis Revisited II: Selection3.0
"Genesis Revisited II: Selection" is a selection of tracks of the studio album "Genesis Revisited
II". I think we can call it a short version of the original album where Steve made an interesting
and reasonably setlist of songs. He made a magnificent voyage to the past, between 1972 and 1976,
including songs from five Genesis? studio albums, "Foxtrot", "Selling England By The Pound", "The
Lamb Lies Down On Broadway", "A Trick Of The Tail" and "Wind And Wuthering", which are, in my
humble opinion, their best five studio albums and true five masterpieces of the group. He included
also a solo track, "Shadow Of The Hierophant", which is, for me, one of his best tracks ever as a
solo artist. So, this is a good compilation but it's better to own the original studio album. Only
"Carpet Crawlers" is worth hearing.

Marillion 5 Album Set3.5
"5 Album Set" is a compilation album that only covers albums that belong to the time when Fish was
still in the band. It has the four studio albums released by Marillion with Fish, plus the debut
live album of the band. As almost all we know, this four studio albums are all great and represent
some of the best albums released by Marillion in their entire long career. But, I really think we
can especially highlight two of them, "Script For A Jester's Tear" and "Misplaced Childhood". Both
albums are masterpieces, two of the best albums ever released in the progressive music. Even the
live album, "Real To Reel" is great too. I'm convinced that in Fish's era, Marillion don't have
any weak work. So, "5 Album Set" is an excellent starting point and a cheapest way to have all
these great works.

Gentle Giant I Lost My Head - The Chrysalis Years (1975-1980)3.5
This is a very interesting compilation with all albums released to Chrysalis records. "Free Hand"
is their last masterpiece. "Playing The Fool" is a live masterpiece, one of the best live albums
ever. "Interview" is an excellent album, their last great album. "The Missing Piece" is a good
album that shows the beginning of their decline. "Giant For A Day" and "Civilian" are a different
matter. I advise you to avoid them. "Giant For A Day" is a fiasco, a mediocre album, the worst
Gentle Giant's album. "Civilian" isn't bad, but doesn't sounds as a Gentle Giant's album and it
has nothing to do with prog. Where is the originality, the complexity, the sophistication and the
diversity, which were the foundations of their music? On this compilation we can see the
excellent, the good, the bad and the ugly. I think this compilation is too much expensive and
there are other albums to spend our money, especially for those who have all these Gentle Giant's
albums, like me. Still it rmains a good compilation.
Van der Graaf Generator First Generation / Godbluff3.5
"The Least We Can Do Is Wave To Each Other", "H To He, Who Am The Only One" and "Pawn Hearts"
belong, with their debut studio album "The Aerosol Grey Machine", to their first musical period.
These three albums are the best of their first four studio albums. "H To He, Who Am The Only One"
and "Pawn Hearts" are also considered with "Godbluff" and "Still Life", from their second musical
period, the four greatest masterpieces from the band. So, the material on here is all of the first
class. But, for those who have already all these albums, this compilation only can be interesting
as an addition for those who are progressive collector's fans. This compilation can never
substitute all those amazing studio works. It?s true that we have "Godfluff" in a complete
version. But the rest of it is very short to can substitute those three albums.

Dream Theater The Triple Album Collection4.0
"The Triple Collection" is a great compilation album of Dream Theater that comprises three great
works of the band. "A Change of Seasons" comprises their great epic suite with the same name with
about 23 minutes long plus 2 covers and 2 medleys from other bands. The suite is simply one of the
best tracks ever made by them. "Metropolis Part 2 - Scenes From A Memory" is a a sequel to
"Metropolis Part I: The Miracle And The Sleeper", a song previously featured on "Images And
Words". It's a wonderful conceptual album divided into several parts. It's considered one of their
best works, if not the best. "Octavarium" is less consensual because is a more commercial and less
balanced. Anyway, it remains a great work that has one of their best and most prog tracks, its
title track suite. So, I think it's fair to say that "The Triple Collection" is a great
compilation that contains some of the best music written by this great band.
Roxy Music The Complete Studio Recordings4.0
"The Complete Studio Recordings" is a very good and interesting compilation album of Roxy Music.
It's very complete with all their studio albums on only one package. But, beyond that, it has also
two extra CD's of outtakes, B sides and some rarities. So, with all these material, "The Complete
Studio Recordings" is an excellent alternative for all who don't have the studio discography of
Roxy Music and they can have also some rare material at the same time. It's true that there is
another compilation album of Roxy Music very similar to this one "The Studio Albums" also with all
the eight studio albums of the band. But, "The Complete Studio Recordings" is a better option
because you can have also the two extra CD's. So, we can say that "The Complete Studio Recordings"
is indicated to all who don't have their studio albums yet and for those who are hard fans and
wish to have everything from the band.

"Discovery" is a great and a big compilation of Pink Floyd. It has the complete studio discography
of the group, all remastered, plus a booklet. But, there's nothing else more than that. Thus, how
to rate a compilation like this, especially for someone like me, who has already all those albums
in its original version? So, sincerely, I think that the right thing to do is to rate this
compilation with a 4, because all on it is good, great or even excellent. Of course not all
musical discography of Pink Floyd is really great. It has its lower points like "More",
"Ummagumma", "Obscured By Clouds", "The Final Cut" and "A Momentary Lapse Of Reason", despite all
are good albums. However, as a global appreciation, it has so many great albums that I sincerely
think it deserves to be considered as an excellent box set.

"A Collection" is a very nice compilation album because it has all the six studio albums released
by The Doors when Jim Morrison was in the band. So, it comprises all the essential works that you
really must have from The Doors. But, if you already have all the six studio albums you don't need
to buy this compilation, because it hasn't anything new to offer, like bonus tracks. Still, if you
are a beginner with the band and you don't have all these albums yet, this is an excellent
alternative to own all the essential discography from The Doors. If you aren't a great fan, how I
am, and you don?t need to buy the original albums, it's the better option, because you maybe save
in money and space.

Marillion Misplaced Childhood/Script For A Jester's Tear4.0
Marillion is and still is, even now, one of the most commercially successful bands of the neo-
progressive revival of the 80's. The band keeps their fan scene together and was always
resourceful in terms of financing their music without the support of a major record label. Despite
unpopularity in the mainstream media and a consistently unfashionable status within the British
music industry, Marillion have maintained a very loyal international fanbase. They have sold over
15 million albums worldwide. And all this began in the 80's in Fish's era, the era were these two
albums were released. So, here we are in presence of two very important albums for Marillion and
for the progressive rock music too. Here we are in presence of two of the most important albums to
the progressive rock style. They're, somehow, almost as so important as the first classic prog
rock albums. So, if you don't have them yet, you must buy it.
Dream Theater Original Album Series4.0
This is a great compilation of Dream Theater. "Images And Words" is a classic of the progressive
metal, arguably one of the first and also one of most essential albums of its genre. "Awake" is an
exceptional work that showcases incredible musicianship, songwriting abilities and complex time
signatures. "Falling To Infinity" is a great album in all respects, the most underrated album in
Dream Theather?s catalog. "Metropolis Part 2 - Scenes From A Memory" is a wonderful conceptual
album that is considered by many one of their best works. "Train Of Thought" is Dream Theater's
heaviest album in their catalog. It has a more metal approach. So, it brings some of the best
pages written by this great band.
Marillion 4 Albums4.0
"4 Albums" is especially important for those who don't own the four original studio works or for
the hardest collector fans of Marillion. Anyway, this compilation album is very interesting. It
comprises the two last studio albums of Fishs's era and the two first studio albums of Hogarth's
era. However, it isn't a very uniform compilation in terms of quality. If the two albums that
belong to Fish's era, "Misplaced Childhood" and "Clutching At Straws" are both two excellent
works, mainly the first one, we cannot say the same about the two works from Hogarth's era. It's
true that "Season's End" is also an excellent album but "Holidays In Eden" is clearly weaker.
Anyway and as a whole, we can say that "4 Albums" is a very good compilation album. In a way, it
can do a nice picture of both worlds of Marillion's career. If you haven't those works, it can be
a nice purchase.

Area The Essential Box Set Collection3.5
"The Essential Box Set Collection" is an excellent compilation album of Area. It includes almost
all the studio albums from the band with the presence of Demetrio Stratos. The only exception is
the absence of their fifth studio album "1978 - Gli Dei Se Ne Vanno, Gli Arrabbiati Restano!"
released in 1978. And that it was really pity, indeed. If "1978 - Gli Dei Se Ne Vanno, Gli
Arrabbiati Restano!" was included, we would have here the complete essential studio works from
Area. But, it includes also two live albums. "Are(A)zione", is probably Area's best live album and
"Event '76" is, surely, Area's most avant-garde album. So, here we have a great showcase of Area's
music, which shows the different facets of Area, their most experimental and their most RPI too.
So, this is an excellent package for those who don't have yet all these works. It's always a great
introduction to the very own world of Area. It's highly recommended.

Opeth The Candlelight Years4.0
After the release of their superb studio album "Watershed", Opeth's old record label Candlelight
released a box set containing the first three studio albums of Opeth. This reissue of the original
albums is complemented by four bonus tracks that were also reissued on the individual versions of
the three albums in 2000. The bonus tracks are the 1992's "Into The Frost Of Winter", which later
became "Advent", "Eternal Soul Torture" that is a demo recorded at the time of the "Morningrise"
sessions and two cover versions, "Circle Of The Tyrant" of Celtic Frost and Iron Maiden's
"Remember Tomorrow" as two tribute samplers. The presentation of the box is impressive. There's a
new, very nice artwork, which is why the original covers aren't included, the CD's are completely
black and a twelve page booklet is also included.
Opeth The Wooden Box4.0
"The Wooden Box" is the counterpart of other box set released by Opeth "The Candlelight Years"
released in 2008 with CD versions. We have on "The Wooden Box" 6 vinyl LP's, a limited edition and
is numbered. As happened with "The Candlelight Years", "The Wooden Box" has also four bonus
tracks, the 1992's "Into The Frost Of Winter", which later became "Advent", "Eternal Soul Torture"
that is a demo recorded at the time of the "Morningrise" sessions and two cover versions, "Circle
Of The Tyrant" of Celtic Frost and Iron Maiden's "Remember Tomorrow" as two tribute samplers. But,
there are still some slightly "technical annoyances": The discs are hard to get out of the box and
they don't have their original visual. Fortunately, the box is not full, so they are not squished
in it. But, apart that, "The Wooden Box" is an amazing purchase and an excellent addition,
especially for all who prefer the vinyl versions.

"Subterranea" is one of the better works of the neo-prog sub-genre. It was made by one of the few
sincere bands and pioneers in that style of prog. The album has quality and personality and is
highly executed. Performed live won another power, dimension and another life. Despite I own the
two CD versions, when I listen to it I usually choose its live version. So, if you have to choose
between the studio and the live version, go for the live version.

important compilation with many similitude with the other two. After reviewing the other two
compilations, I can say that "A Lenda Do Quarteto 1111" is a better option, because is the biggest
and most complete of the three. If you want to have on a single album many of the songs released
by the group and dispersed on so many singles and EP, this is the right place to have it.

Pink Floyd Oh by the Way4.0
How to rate a compilation with the entire career of a band when we have individually all their
original discography? By the other hand, the entire career of Pink Floyd never was totally uniform
and balanced all over the years. It's almost consensual consider the band released five great
masterpieces "Meddle", "Dark Side Of The Moon", "Wish You Were Here", "Animals" and "The Wall" and
four excellent studio albums "The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn", "A Saucerful Of Secrets", "Atom
Heart Mother" and "The Division Bell". But, we know too that "More", "Ummagumma", "Obscured By
Clouds", "The Final Cut" and "A Momentary Lapse Of Reason" are minor studio works compared with
the others. So, sincerely, I really think the right thing to do is rating "Oh By The Way" with a 4
because it has many great things.

Like "A Lenda De El-Rei D. Sebastiao", their debut compilation, this is also a very interesting
and important compilation released by Quarteto 1111, because it was possible to have in only one
album many of the songs released by the group in so many singles and EP's. However, of the fifteen
tracks recorded on "Singles And EP's", only six are new in relation to that previous compilation.
So, actually it does not bring to us practically any new stuff. Anyway, this is perhaps preferable
to "Singles And EP's" because it has more three songs than the first one has.

Carmen material included on this release should be considered classic stuff, and is therefore

something a bit different. Of the two albums, "Fandangos In Space" is the most "commercial" of
both albums, so much of the songs could get airplay, even today. "Dancing On A Cold Wind", in
contrast, is the most intriguing for the noodlers and lovers of the unique and original style of
this band. Maybe we can say that it's, perhaps, more prog. With this excellent release, Angel Air
reissued of the two albums together on two CD's releasing a couple of bonus tracks, Carmen
returns with a passion and love for the good old prog days, the days of 70's. This is highly
recommended stuff.

The Decca Years 1975-1978 gives a complete overview of the years of the first Kaipa incarnation.
Even if you already own Kaipa old albums, it is worth buying this box because of the almost
sensationally good live recordings, even if the sound quality fluctuates at times, and of course,
the original unreleased demos cuts, which show that it is really Hans Lundin and his ideas that
are the driving force behind Kaipa, despite some amazing guitar work displayed by the young Roine
Stolt. If you have not had any of the old Kaipa albums yet, you are in good hands here anyway. The
downside, however, is that is really difficult to put your hands in one of them. So, go for it, if
you can.

I know this project since it was released and I must say that I always became very well impressed

progressive reviewers gave very little attention. I really don not know if it is by lack of
knowledge of it. If I can interest you about this project, I will be perfectly happy. The main
objective was reached. Perhaps the right thing to do is buying this compilation because you will
get the entire complete project. However, if you are not interested in spend so much money to have
the entire project, I recommend you to start buying their live album "Go Live From Paris" their
hidden masterpiece. It is especially indicated for those who prefer live recordings over the
studio ones. Anyway, as a project, it must be known as a whole.

It's always a bit difficult for me to rate this kind of compilations, box sets, with the complete
original albums from a band. Why? Because, If you have already the four original albums from the
group, you don't need to buy this compilation because it hasn't practically anything new to offer,
unless you have only the vinyl versions. In this case, this package is a good complement for you,
probably with a cheap price than the four CD's, individually. However, if you don't have these
four albums yet, you need urgently to leave your home to buy them. Concluding, this is a great box
set with four of the best albums from the group. If you own this compilation or the four albums
individually, you only need to buy their fourth studio album "Maledetti" of 1976 and their fifth
studio album "1978 Gli Dei Se Ne Vanno, Gli Arrabbiati Restano" of 1978 to have the essential
discography of Area. So, this is a high recommended compilation.

If you already have the two studio albums of the band in two individual albums, you don't need to
buy this compilation. It hasn't practically anything new to offer, like bonus tracks, what happens
with the original remastered CD versions. The original remastered CD's have several bonus tracks
to offer, and in general, they're all good and interesting to hear. However, if you don't have
these two albums yet, you need urgently to leave your home to buy them, because "Once Again" is an
essential album in the discography of Barclay James Harvest. Despite, "Baby James Harvest" be the
weakest of their all Harvest Records, is, nevertheless, a very nice album to have, really. If
you're only interested on the two studio albums and you aren't particularly interested on bonus
tracks, I think this compilation is a better choice, if you can get it, because you save in money
and space. So, I recommend this compilation album despite the less quality of "Baby James
Harvest". "Once Again" is a true underrated gem that deserves much more attention.

Queen The Platinum Collection3.0
We can say that "The Platinum Collection" is a very special and strange compilation album. First
because this is a compilation of three previous compilation albums of the band and second because
it has three very different compilations in terms of quality and representativeness. It's true
that despite some clear differences in terms of quality between "Greatest Hits I" and "Greatest
Hits II", both are two good compilation albums of Queen. But, we cannot say the same relatively to
"Greatest Hits III". "Greatest Hits III" is a kind of a mix salad with varied and weak ingredients
making of it a compilation album with a very dubious taste. So, "The Platinum Collection" isn't a
real great compilation but isn't also an awful compilation. Thus, we can say "The Platinum
Collection" deserves to be rated with a 3.0.

"The Universal Migrator" parts one and two in only one package are really the better way to enjoy
this conceptual project. It features incredible vocal performances and amazing instrumental
playing from all involved, which is a usual trademark of all Ayreon works. Fans of various genres
should listen to this album and all of Ayreon's music to bring themselves to a more adventurous
approach toward rock and metal, in the progressive side. "The Universal Migrator" is a fantastic
album that combines perfectly well Lucassen soft and melodic side with his more heavy side. With
this album, Lucassen proves that he is one of the best and most complete artists in the
progressive music world, and one of the most versatile composers. He also confirms his capacity to
convince some of the best musicians to work with him. I real believe this album will satisfy
completely all followers of good music of any progressive genre.

"Early Days & Latter Days (The Best Of Led Zeppelin Volumes One And Two)" is a very special
compilation album of Led Zeppelin because it includes two previous compilation albums of the band
in only one package. I think this was an intelligent release because it could, somehow, unite in
only one package all the career of Led Zeppelin with some of their most representative tracks. As
we know, in general, it's almost impossible to summarize all the career of any band in only one
compilation album, especially when we are talking about bands with an amount of great tracks.
Still, in this case, we can say this compilation album is a great place to start with this band.

I'm a big Genesis fan, but "From Genesis To Revelation" is a weak album. Despite it has some good
songs like "Where The Sour Turns Sweet", "Fireside Song", "Am I Very Wrong", "In The Wilderness",
"One Day" and "Silent Sun", the rest of the album is very vulgar and weak. It just sounds like an
album of the 60's and the music has more in common with The Beatles and the early Bee Gees, than
the future sound of Genesis. This debut isn't bad for a band of the 60's but not for a band like
Genesis. Many of the songs are in general nice, but the strings and the production aren't. If the
strings have been cut and the production had been better, it could be a better album. So, if you
aren't accustomed with Genesis' discography, please don't start with this album. Even some
Genesis' catalogs no mention this album and start with "Trespass" as their debut work.

band and is one of the most accessible of all Gentle Giant's albums. It combines a superb
musicianship, dry wit, and creative compositions making of it an essential piece and an historical
recording. "Interview" is their last great work and has all the ingredients of Gentle Giant's
music and contains also some of the most aggressive, experimental and electrified music ever
composed by them or even by any other progressive band.

a good option. So, it will be a very worth purchase and is a better option because you save on

era. "Brief Encounter" is a good EP, but quite dispensable. But with "Real To Reel" is quite the
contrary. "Real To Reel" is an indispensable album, a great testimony of the band in the live
shows in Fish's era.

"Edits" is relatively similar to "Pride" with less its short "Crying For Help" tracks and with its
long tracks shorted. "Pride" is an excellent studio album that suffers of the same problems that
suffers their debut studio album "Songs From The Lion's Cage". I always thought that the inclusion
on both albums of the big and most progressive songs with the short and less complex songs wasn't
a very good option. I sincerely think that "Edits" represents a failed chance to release a very
good EP. If I can understand the need of separate the long songs from the short songs, I can't
understand the severe cuts that some of the songs suffered, especially "Sirens". The cut of about
one quarter of the length of the song is almost criminal. This is, for me, the best track on
"Pride" and is also one of the best tracks ever made by Arena. What Arena should have done was to
release an EP with new versions of all the long tracks from both albums, like they did with their
debut EP "The Cry" with all "Crying For Help" tracks.

We can say that "Greatest Hits I & II" is a very special and strange compilation album of the band
because "Greatest Hits I & II" is nothing more than a compilation album that includes two previous
compilation albums with nothing new to offer. Anyway, "Greatest Hits I & II" is a good compilation
of the band that covers practically the entire career of them covering almost all their studio
works. The only exception is their eponymous debut studio album and the last one "Made In Heaven".
If the absence of any song from "Made In Heaven" is perfectly normal because "Greatest Hits II"
was released less than a month before the death of Freddie Mercury and became the last Queen's
release of any kind while he was alive, we cannot say the same about their debut. "Queen" is one
of their best works and deserved to be represented too. Anyway, "Greatest Hits I & II" is a good
compilation album of Queen.

If you have the three studio albums you don't need to have this compilation. Despite the box comes in a special miniature double album's sleeve, it hasn't nothing new to offer, like bonus tracks. However, if you don't have these three albums, this is an excellent alternative. But if you don't have these albums already, you need them. These three albums represent some of the best progressive rock pages written in the 80's. When the time was against the progressive rock music, bands that would later be called neo-prog bands such as Marillion, IQ and Pendragon, were very importants for the spirit of prog. So, these three albums are part of some of the best prog, made in those times.

Druid Toward the Sun/Fluid Druid3.5
If you like Yes Druid is a nice band to check. Despite the lack of some originality, this English
band hasn't got anything to envy to the Masters. The melodies are fantastic, the arrangements are
full of dreamy mellotron layers and the singer has a pleasant high pitched voice and uses it in a
tasty way. We have also lots of Rickenbacker from the bass player and a melodic playing from the
guitarist. This is particularly evident on "Toward The Sun". Not quite as enjoyable as their
debut, "Fluid Druid" is a less pleasant follow-up. Perhaps stung by the "Yes Clones" accusations,
the band this time has tried to aim for a more original sounding collection. This they achieved
somehow, but the overall effect is less rewarding than its predecessor. Too bad that they didn't
have record any more after "Fluid Druid" as it shows some maturing songwriting from the band, and
a third album would probably been better if everything had gone in the right way. So, if you buy
the double CD of the two albums in only one package, it represents a good value, really.

Despite some differences, which I think subtle, the music of Renaissance's Mk.I and Renaissance's
Mk.II never were very different. The same applies to the music of Illusion. It fits perfectly well
as a complement of Renaissance's music. So, "Out Of The Mist" and "Illusion" are two great albums
that complement well the career of Renaissance's first line up. This is a great compilation album
because both albums fit perfectly well together as the two sides of the same coin.

Quarteto 1111 A Lenda De El-Rei D. Sebastião - 19933.0
The importance of Quarteto 1111 to Portuguese popular music is completely undeniable, especially
for the birth of the Portuguese progressive rock music. This compilation, "A Lenda De El-Rei D.
Sebastiao" is a very interesting and important release of the group, because for the first time it
was possible to have in only one album so many songs released by the group, usually separated for
so many singles and EP's. This is even more important because, as far as I know and unfortunately,
their debut album was never released in CD. Fortunately and lucky for me, I have a vinyl copy
purchased in the the years of the 70's. My main concern on this review was to focus all my
attention in lyrics, trying to explain the subjects covered in oeach song. I did it because I know
the majority of the readers do not know any word of Portuguese, and as we know, music is a
universal language. So, I hope you can enjoy the music.

"Shine On" is a great Pink Floyd's compilation, especially if you have some money to spend on it.
It's a real gigantic collection, where we can find all the essential studio works from the band,
if you don't own the discs already in its original packaging. However, I never understood the
criterion chosen for this selection of albums. If "Meddle", "Dark Side Of The Moon", "Wish You
Were Here", "Animals" and "The Wall" are clearly obvious choices because are the best studio
albums from the group, the selection of the other two albums are less consensual, especially the
inclusion of "A Momentary Lapse Of Reason", which is, for me, their weakest studio work. Anyway,
the most interesting part of this box set is the last CD, where we can find and enjoy rare tracks
with great songs from their psychedelic musical phase.

I must confess that I don't have this compilation album in my collection. I only have the two
remastered CD versions of both studio albums. However, of all studio albums released by Barclay
James Harvest in the 70's, their four previous studio albums, the albums released to Harvest
Records, were the last to be bought to my collection and known by me. Sincerely, and I don't know
why but I never felt too much excited to knew them previously. Today, I really know that it was a
true wrong thing. Some of their best albums belong to this phase. If "Barclay James Harvest And
Other Short Stories" and "Baby James Harvest" are definitely not two essential purchases in
Barclay James Harvest discography, they are, without any doubt, two good albums for lovers of
progressive melodic music. If you have the two studio albums in two individual records, you don't
need to buy this compilation because it hasn't anything new to offer, like bonus tracks. If you

album in the discography of Barclay James Harvest and "Barclay James Harvest" is a nice album to

If you have the two studio albums you don't need to buy this compilation because it has nothing

you don't have problems with high pitched vocals in the same vein of Geddy Lee of Rush, you
willn't lose your time with this compilation. Still, if you aren't convinced, at least, you must
check "Pampered Menial". It's an excellent album with some kind of originality. Pavlov's Dog made
a very powerful and balanced album. I think it's an excellent example of some of the best prog
made in US, in the 70's. We know that in the 70's, the prog rock music was practically an European
phenomenon. So, American bands like Kansas, Starcastle, Pavlov's Dog and Blue Oyster Cult were,
exceptions. So, Pavlov's Dog is one of the best examples of those times.

"3" is a great compilation of Tangerine Dream that contains three great albums of the band. It's
also very interesting because it has three very special albums for Tangerine Dream if we look at
them in relation to its date release. We have the last album of the band with what is considered
their best line up, Froese, Franke and Baumann, "Encore". A transition and controversial album
with a unique line up, "Cyclone". An album released before the beginning of a new era with
Schmoelling, "Force Majeure". All this makes that "3" is an interesting compilation to be
purchased by those who don't have these three albums yet.

Supersister Present from Nancy/To the the Highest Bidder3.5
"Present From Nancy" and "To The Highest Bidder" are two excellent progressive rock albums nothing
inferior to many of the albums released by their contemporary progressive acts at the time. Both
albums make part of some of the best works released in The Netherlands by their compatriots Focus,
Finch, Kayak, Trace, Earth And Fire and Golden Earring. If you have already the two studio albums
you don't need to buy this compilation because it has nothing new to offer, like bonus tracks.
But, if you don't have these two albums it substitutes perfectly well those original albums.
Roxy Music Heart Still Beating4.0
Tangerine Dream Synthetiseur4.0
"Synthetiseur" is especially important for those who don't own the three original works or for the
hardest collector fans of the band. Still, it's undeniable the great quality of this compilation
album. "Phaedra", "Rubycon" and "Ricochet" are in general considered the three best works of
Tangerine Dream. It turns "Synthetiseur" as a great compilation album, one of the best of the
band. "Phaedra" and "Rubycon" are considered the two greatest masterpieces of the band and two of
the best electronic prog albums ever made. In relation to "Ricochet", despite technically be a
live work, in reality, it's an original work that was recorded live. So, "Synthetiseur" is a great
compilation album with three amazing works of one of the best and most representative bands of the
electronic "Berlin School".

It's always very difficult for me to rate this kind of compilation albums, Box sets with complete
original albums from a band. But, in this case, it's even more difficult because this a package
very unbalanced. All we know that the musical career of Queen was very irregular in terms of
progressivity and music quality. On this compilation album we have six great albums "Queen",
"Queen II", "Sheer Heart Attack", "A Night At The Opera", "A Day At The Races" and "Jazz", of
which "Queen II" and "A Night At The Opera" are two masterpieces, three good albums "News Of The
World", "The Game" and "The Works", but we have also two very weak albums "Flash Gordon" and
especially "Hot Space", which is really a bad album. So, despite its weak points and according
that this compilation album has the five best Queen's studio albums, the first five albums from
the band which are all really great, I decided to rate it with a 4.

"The First Seven Albums" is a great compilation album of Roxy Music. This is a very complete
compilation album with almost all their studio albums with the exception of the last one,
"Avalon", which hadn't yet been released at the time. Who are used to with the career of the band
knows that Roxy Music is a special band in the panorama of the prog rock music. They were
responsible for two of the best and most innovative prog albums at the time, "Roxy Music" and "For
Your Pleasure". They also know that "Stranded", "Country Life" and "Siren" are also three great
prog works. So, this is an excellent alternative option for those who don't have these works
already.

studio albums of Renaissance. They belong to the best period of the band, their golden era.
However, I still consider "Scheherazade And Other Stories" their best studio album and their only
studio masterpiece and "Turn Of The Cards" their second best release. But, if you have both albums
already, you don't need this compilation, unless you have a collector vinyl spirit. Still, if you
don't have both albums yet and you own this compilation, it substitutes well the two original
albums. However, if you don't have both albums, yet, you must buy both.

Both are two great albums of Genesis. "Nursery Cryme" is very important and represents the
beginning of the new line up of Genesis and the starting point, of an amazing career. Still, I
really think that "Nursery Crime" is a transitional album. It's better than "Trespass", but it's
less good than their three following albums. "Foxtrot" was basically the reason why Gabriel
started dressing up on stage, in strange masks and costumes. "Foxtrot" also has one of the songs
that people still talk about with a certain reverence and which inspired many other bands to write
lengthy suites, even today. Of course I'm talking about "Supper's Ready". If you have both studio
albums already, you don?t need this compilation because it has nothing new to offer. But, if you
don't have both albums and you own this compilation, it substitutes well those original albums.

Despite the book notes on the album saying the sound of both concerts were well preserved, there are deficiencies, especially in the Lisbon concert. Sadly, its sound quality doesn't get beyond an average bootleg quality level. This is unfortunate, because it detracts the energy of the music in comparison with the studio albums. Their debut live album "Are(A)zione" released in 1975, has less musical material than "Parigi-Lisbona", still, the sound quality on "Are(A)zione" is better. Anyway, "Parigi-Lisbona" is an important and interesting live document by a remarkable, original and unique Italian band from the 70's.

Both albums belong to their first musical phase, a most experimental phase, a phase probably more
linked with the krautrock music than to the electronic music of their next works. This is
especially true to "Electronic Meditation". Both are two great works, two very important albums to
Tangerine Dream and to the electronic music. "Alpha Centauri" was the starting point of their
electronic music and "Atem" was the end of an era, the starting point of their next more
electronic phase, "The Virgin Years".

Both are two great albums from the band. "Trespass" is perhaps the most simple and beautiful album
in Genesis' career. It represents the real turning point for them. Besides, it's the only album
with Phillips on board. "Nursery Cryme" is their first masterpiece and represents a step forward
in relation to their previous album. It combines a superb musicianship, dry wit, and creative
compositions making of it an essential piece. Besides, it's their first album with Hackett and
Collins on board. If you have both studio albums, you don't need this compilation. But if you

"S.F Sorrow" and "Parachute" are two great albums. You should check them out if you haven't yet.
If you have checked already "S.F. Sorrow" and you assumed that the rest of their works would be
boring hard rock and think that you have already everything you need from this band, you're wrong.
Why? Because if you listen to "Parachute" you realize that it's a mistake. It's true that the
"concept" on "Parachute" feels a bit looser than on "S.F. Sorrow", but it's certainly musically
just as accomplished as the previous concept is. Smooth harmonies, taut rockers, and dark
psychedelic all combine here to a good effect. Both albums are definitely worth checking out. It's
a tragedy that "S.F. Sorrow" and "Parachute" wound up as chart failures. Both albums should be
heard, enjoyed, and played frequently to fully enjoy them. However, if you already have the two
individual studio albums, you don't need to buy this compilation.

Led Zeppelin 2 Originals Of Led Zeppelin3.5
If you already have the two individual studio albums, you don't need to buy this compilation. It
hasn't anything new to offer, like bonus tracks. Still, if you don't have these two albums yet,
this is an excellent alternative to owner both. These are two essential works from the band.
Anyway, the whole discography of the band is indispensable and that shouldn't be missed. Led
Zeppelin is a very rare and interesting band, because we can't say that they released any weak
album. They're considered one of the best and biggest rock bands ever existed, in spite of the
existense ofonly ten years of career. So, if you don't have these two albums yet, you need
urgently to leave your home to buy them.
Strawbs Early Strawbs3.5
If you already have the two studio albums in two individual albums you don't need to buy this
compilation unless you're a collectionist. It has nothing new to offer, like bonus tracks. It
doesn't happen with the remastered versions on the CD format. The original remastered CD's have
several bonus tracks to offer, and in general, they're all good and interesting. However, if you
don't have these two albums yet, this is an excellent alternative to these two albums. It's true
they aren't two essential studio albums in the discography of the group and that both don't
represent two essential pieces to have in a prog collection. However, both represent two good
albums and a mysterious and almost unknown face of this incredible prog band. To complement these
two studio albums, I recommend their third studio album "From The Witchwood" and their first live
album "Just A Collection Of Antiques And Curious", an album where almost all tracks weren't
released on any studio album before. It's a great album, much better than "Strawbs" and
"Dragonfly", and represents a wonderful evening with a superb concert. It remains as one of the
most memorable live performances of them. It isn?t their best or a perfect album, but it's the
most pure, naive and probably the most beautiful work made by the group. It represents also the
first memorable performance of Rick Wakeman on a live show.

Pink Floyd A Nice Pair4.0
I like very much of both albums, but maybe I prefer "A Saucerful Of Secrets" than "The Piper At
The Gates Of Dawn". But, both have their great moments. It's probably best recommended for
newbies, not the Pink Floyd's newbies but the newbies of the psychedelic music. I don't have this
compilation. I have the two vinyl records and the two CD's too. Still, I know it since I was a
teen and it represented my first contact with these two albums. But, if you have the two studio
albums in two individual records, you don't need to buy this compilation because it hasn't
anything new to offer, like bonus tracks, unless you have a collector vinyl spirit or you are a
hard Pink Floyd's fan. However, if you don't have these two albums yet, this is the better option
because you save on price and space. So, if you don't have these two albums and you own this
compilation, it substitutes perfectly well those two original albums. This is really a nice pair,
eighteen amazing tracks in only one package.

If you have already the two studio albums, you don't need this compilation because it hasn't
anything new to offer. Anyway, if you don't have these two albums you must check them. They
represent a different side of Yes. They witness the first moments as a band that starts to develop
and watch them progress. It's one of the most rewarding things a music enthusiast can take part
in. However, two years later the scaffold will be removed and the building work will be complete,
and as strong as it would ever be.

The Flock The Flock/Dinosaur Swamps3.0
This reissue of The Flock's first two albums shows a band searching for an identity, at times
finding it, and others coming up a bit empty. "The Flock" is ultimately a more successful album
than "Dinosaur Swamps" is. It suffered from ultimately too ambitious and self-indulgent for its
own good. And if "The Flock" was more eclectic, "Dinosaur Swamps" was positively more
schizophrenic, with tinges of bluegrass/country, psychedelic musings with electronic treatments,
flat-out funk, higher octane blues/rock and hints of Zappa-esque absurdity. However and despite
the writing, arrangements and performances being perhaps dated, the music is fun in a guilty kind
of way. Goodman may be the drawing card, but this reissue rescued from the obscurity a group that
may not have achieved the success of its contemporaries, but over the course of this two albums
they produced a diverse and interesting body of work.
