I'd take short if it means an album is as concise and well crafted as this. This album is
classic Tenacious D with homages to all their influences scattered throughout. It's probably
about as close to perfect as these guys will ever get, but it's better than most of their
peers and they will settle for that.
For what should be by anyone's measurements a long-dead joke, this holds up incredibly well. The great songs solidly outnumber the misses and the comedy is quite funny. Not a cornucopia of innovative musical talent, but it does what it intended to do well. 3.8/5
There's some really excellent music on here, but the comedy is lackluster - mostly witless
potty humor as opposed to the absurd rock n' roll parody of the past. A few songs on the
album totally rip but most of them kind of fall flat. Regardless, long live the D.
Great Album, I've now listened to it a fair few times and I absolutely love it. Much of this album has such good guitar work notably "Senorita" and "Deth Starr". A number of songs on this album remind me of Led Zepplin - IV and Iron Maiden style riffs and you cannot ignore Dave Grohl's brilliant Drumming.rIts an album that is quite good on the ears, more so to people who have not even heard of Tenacious D. For fans its massive progress since "Pick Of Destiny" its also more musically matured than the first album. My only annoyance with this album is that its not nearly as big as the other two, it only has 13 songs but some of them only peak at 3 minutes. Still the music is quite concentrated and distracts from this side of the album. The comedy is still brilliant, but you can't ignore how good JB and KG are as musicians.
