im a sucker for breakdowns and while i like emmure, id never rate an emmure album above a 3.5. the unstructured messes that are called emmure songs are back on this album and about 5 or 6 of them are almost identical. Protoman, Blackheart Reigns, MDMA, Bison Diaries, and AI all were songs that i liked(especially the WELCOME TO HELL slam-ish breakdown on blackheart) and their new obsession with melodic riffs is kinda good at times(MDMA sounds kinda cool)

Maybe the criticism they receive for this album will convince Emmure that they should wait longer than 14 months before releasing a new album. It would be worth the wait if it means more time and diversity is put into it. Speaker of the Dead wasn't actually too bad in my opinion. There were a few songs that were ok, but there is not much to salvage from Slave to the Game. Frankie is at times incomprehensible as usual, but maybe that's just me. As predicted, there is an overuse of breakdowns, and an underuse of diversity. There is however a bit of melody used on a few tracks. Some elctronics are used here too (though not well). None the less, these factors show that Emmure may be trying to gradually change their sound. This is of course an advisable thing to do, if they want their fanbase to be more than just confused teenagers who are angry at the world.

"Slave To The Game" is a major step for Emmure. As a lifetime listener of them (look at my Goodbye to the Gallows opinions for explanation), they of course have always overused breakdowns, to the point where some of their songs ARE breakdowns. But not here. There are breakdowns aplenty, but they also have proven that there is talent to be had and that they know how to make solid music. Chugging? Yes. Electronics? Yes. But still a step up in every way from the past 2 albums.

downloaded it, and its kinda mehh. some songs sound good, but their is still the same stuff that you hate about emmure. I guess the good thing is that this cd has the least of it.

I must say I'm a little shocked. I wasn't completely bored to tears trying to listen to this album. There's just
enough melody and a different selection of riffs through out the songs to make a it a descent album. The
lyrics are what they are at this point in Emmure's career, can't really expect more then that now.
