I wasn't big on Dan Tompkins-era Tesseract, and I'm not big on him in Skyharbor, either. His tone and range do nothing for me, and as mentioned in the review, he almost never shuts up, bringing down some quality instrumentals. Despite him, the rest of the band is so cohesive that I can't give this any less than a 3. Future listens might reveal whatever I'm missing, but for now, this isn't quite the djent/prog masterpiece the hype makes it out to be.
"Illusion" is a gem of modern prog-metal. Chug-inspired, yet sounds fresh, with an amazing sound and performances from the members of the band. Daniel's voice really fits the songs, but what shines here is the musicianship of the two guitarists. "Chaos", unfortunately, is not that good and it's the reason why I was tempted to give this a 3.5.
