This is starting to grow on me. Both the melodic and the chaotic are intertwined well on this album and Dan's vocal performance really shines throughout "Illusion". Sunneith's performance on the latter half is good to, but something about the cleans and screams on "Chaos" fall short of what the former disk offered. Still, a very solid debut record. "Catharsis" and "Insurrection" were the standout tracks amoung the rest for me.

I wasn't big on Dan Tompkins-era Tesseract, and I'm not big on him in Skyharbor, either. His tone and range do nothing for me, and he almost never shuts up. It's just not the djent/prog masterpiece the hype makes it out to be.

"Illusion" is a gem of modern prog-metal. Chug-inspired, yet sounds fresh, with an amazing sound and performances from the members of the band. Daniel's voice really fits the songs, but what shines here is the musicianship of the two guitarists. "Chaos", unfortunately, is not that good and it's the reason why I was tempted to give this a 3.5.

Djent has barely progressed since it's conception five years ago. Skyharbor does nothing to progress it. But this album is really fucking good anyway. Also, Dan fucking Tompkins.
